Angelina Jolie is not an actress but rather a commercial persona used by the giant Hollywood studios to bring in the dough! However, the formula doesn't seem to be working because her last few films haven't grossed the projected numbers. This role, if she takes it, isn't a big stretch from her previous attempts to act, such as in Tomb Raider. Don't waste your time with this movie, her twins, or anything related to Tom Cruise!

idk, i've never really considered jolie an "actor". unlike the billions of ppl in this world, i actually don't find her interesting b/c i don't find her compelling as an actor. now give me daniel day lewis, meryl streep, tom hanks, laura linney, cate blanchett, denzel, jodie foster, etc. -- these people are real ACTORS that i'm interested in. jolie, eh. i saw her in "life or something like it" and it was awful. other than that she plays the same generic action star role. meh.

This piece of news made me quite happy, for many reasons. First, I love Angelina Jolie as an actress, especially in action movies. I also respect her as a person, for her love of children and for all that she did for many charitable works. Second, I like what Philip Noyce did with THE QUIET AMERICAN, a film that deserved a lot better in terms of viewing. I hope that Noyce will be able to again recreate the same kind of atmosphere full of intrigue. Third, I believe that Tom Cruise had it coming and that he has turned into his own worst enemy. I will never go see anymore a movie or show that has him on the cast. Finally, for all those haters of AJ who pretend that she can't act: rejoin reality and go see one of her movies...with your blinders off!

It takes someone with a lot of chatzpah like Angelina to be able to pull this movie off. No anyone can play such a role. Stars such as Penelope Cruz would never be able to pull this off especially the stunts that are a must. Whereas just thinking of Angelina Jolie starring in this movie has be very interested to know when to expect its release date. Angelina has never let me down in her interesting take on her roles and the intensity she brings to them.

A breakthrough day for women everywhere? Eh...I don't exactly buy it. Like Rob Grizzly said, an action role isn't necessarily breaking ground for Jolie anymore, considering her resume (e.g., Tomb Raider, Mr. and Mrs. Smith, Wanted, etc.). Like mostly everything done in Hollywood, it's a business decision. Tom Cruise (better actor or not, we can debate that) isn't exactly marketable these days, thanks to his off screen antics. The chameleonic role makes it easy for anyone to jump in and take the reigns. From the sound of it, even Will Smith or Penelope Cruz could sell the role.

Movie Stars need to keep there on-screen personas seperate from their personal ritualistic beliefs & behaviors. I personally won't see certain movies if I don't care for certain actors. I don't think I've seen an espionage thriller starring a woman since, what, "The Little Drummer Girl"? (In which Diane Keaton was, unfortunately, miscast.) This is definitely an interesting way to go with it, and I think it will be a good fit for Jolie, who can call on her action chops and her acting skills here. I am not sure why so many people hate on her for the crime of (ack!) having children or hooking up with a guy after he left his wife (no!), but the box office and web hits don't lie: No matter how many haters there are, plenty more people love her.

Jodi Foster took Sean Penn's role in 'Flightplan' but nobody championed that as a 'breakthrough for women everywhere.' Why not? My guess is because Jodi hasn't marketed herself as a savior the way A.J. has. i'll call it a breakthrough for women when something besides boobs, lips and adultery characterizes our patron saint, or when a woman can snag a man's gig in the directing/producing chair and EW champions THAT. Until then, wake me when the Angelina phase is over.

Those who put down AJ really are funny. Like so many of us, she was wild in her younger days but she has become such an example to not only women but to anyone. Her love of children, her cheritable work are all great examples of humanity.
