Robert Downey Jr. may soon goose the genre that launched his comeback. The Iron Man star is in negotiations to voice a character in Master Mind, DreamWorks Animation’s send-up of the superhero genre being produced by Ben Stiller’s production company, Red Hour Films. Tina Fey is also expected to join the cast of the movie, about a villain who loses his will to live after accidentally killing his archrival. Neither actor is a newcomer to animation: Downey Jr. lent his voice to an episode of Family Guy and the Richard Linklater film A Scanner Darkly, while Fey voiced a burrito in the film version of Aqua Teen Hunger Force. Master Mind (the working title for now) is based on a script from Alan Schoolcraft and Brent Simons and will be directed by DreamWorks Animation veterans Cameron Hood and Kyle Jefferson. One request, guys: no references to Stiller’s failed 1999 superhero spoof Mystery Men. The world does not need more Mr. Furious.

Mystery Men is the only good movie Ben Stiller has ever been in. And it still sucks. I am interested to see where this goes, good luck kids, play nice.
#1 – Mystery Men was a great movie, what’s with the hate? Yes it didn’t do well at the BO, but that’s because it was a post-modern send-up of superhero stories at a time before the superhero movies had really hit big (pre-xmen, pre-spidey).
#2 “Fey voiced a burrito in the film version of Aqua Teen Hunger Force” just one more piece of evidence in my open and shut case that Tiny Fey has never been involved with anything even marginally funny ever in her life. That this woman somehow keep getting work as a comedian surely indicates that Hollywood is desperate to find successful women comedians and will settle for anything.
wow “mike”…mystery men was good and Tina Fey is unfunny? by far two of the most idiotic statements i’ve ever heard and this coming from someone who against all better judgement sat through back to back episodes of the O’Reilly Factor and Hannity & Colmes…
Aqua Teens is good too
“…by far two of the most idiotic statements i’ve ever heard…” Really? Wow. Cause the most idiotic statement I ever heard came from this completely brain-dead ass named Lazlo who goes around insulting total strangers for no reason other than that he likes different tv shows and movies than them.
Wow, the sexual tension between Mike and Lazio is electric. Just another in a long line of reasons I love EW: the love connections.
Mystery Men rocked.
no time to really get into a drawn-out “fight” with Mike (plus, you can agree that no one else really cares), as i’m so consummed with trying to find successful female comedians for Hollywood production. so be content that it’s just one man’s opinion that you have awful taste
Downey didn’t lend his voice to Scanner Darkly. He was actually in the movie live-action. It was animated later over the actors.
Congratulations Brent and Alan. Brent is my brother in law and a very funny guy. One thing this article didn’t mention, is that this is the FIRST ORIGINAL SCRIPT that DreamWorks has purchased. This is no small thing. I’m sure this will become an iconic film in the DreamWorks library of productions.
Congratulations guys! All of your hard work is paying off. You are both very talented and funny!

Wow, the two comments on the bottom of the page have to be from the least informed people on earth. First off mage(with oddly placed question mark), aren’t you supposed to say that Zoolander is Ben stiller’s best film, since all the “cool people” like that piece of crap the best? Watch “Tropic Thunder”, then get back at me.
And Mr. Mike over here is in a group of one saying that Tina Fey has never been involved with anything funny ever.
I’m one of “the least informed people on earth” because I don’t find Tina Fey funny? Great point. No one ever informed me that we were all supposed to describe her as being funny. And since there’s nothing ACTUALLY funny about her, I would have no way to know I was supposed to say that, since, as you point out, I was never, informed. See no one had to “inform” me that Chris Rock is funny, or George Carlin (was), or Dave Chapelle or Will Ferrell. I had no idea there was a new species of comedian who only becomes funny once you’re “informed” that they’re supposed to be. I apologize Vince. Thanks for getting me the message.
Mystery Men is very underrated. I bought a second DVD copy just to lend out to friends who missed seeing the movie. Plenty of the jokes are a bit too obvious but plenty more are gems, plus the sets and effects were much better than they had to be. The cast was also composed of better actors than it had to be. All in all a fun film that never got the credit it deserved.
I liked “Mystery Men.” On topic though, “Mastermind” sounds pretty great. I’m always happy to hear about Robert Downey Jr. & Tina Fey being in new projects.
One of many more to come from these two hollywood writers. I, too, know Brent Simons is a funny man as my son Jason Gutierrez stated. Great to see this script finally taking off.
At the risk of rousing the ire of others, I, too, have never found Tina Fey to be very funny. I tried to sit through an episode of “30 Rock” and was not amused, and I never found her stint on SNL to be funny, either. It’s just a matter of personal taste. (Oh, and “Mystery Men” had its moments – oh, for the days when Janine Garafalo was still funny….)
I’d agree that Mystery Men is way underrated. Sure, it could have been better, but it’s still a very funny movie, one I have enjoyed every time I’ve watched it.
And Fey is hilarious, as is 30 Rock, one of the funniest shows on TV. It doesn’t surprise me that some people don’t like her, different people just have different taste and senses of humor.
