It’s a breakthrough day for women everywhere. EW.com has learned that Sony Pictures is completely re-imagining its long-gestating spy vehicle Edwin A. Salt, which, until now, had Tom Cruise attached to star. But rather than focusing on a male CIA officer who’s accused of being a Russian sleeper spy, the studio has decided to make its lead a woman — Edwina, if you will. And not just any woman: the studio is negotiating with Angelina Jolie to star. Philip Noyce (The Quiet American) is still attached to direct. No word on whether the script, by Kurt Wimmer (The Thomas Crown Affair), requires a complete rewrite, or if they just have to change the pronouns.

Angelina is the biggest self promoting, immoral, skank in the world. At least Tom can act. If she’s in this movie, I will not see it.

The change is great!! I don’t bother with the Tom Cruise movies anymore – since he’s not that great of an actor. Maybe he thinks he is, but he’s really not. Jolie and many, many others stand on the top of the list as much better performers.
Those who put down AJ really are funny. Like so many of us, she was wild in her younger days but she has become such an example to not only women but to anyone. Her love of children, her cheritable work are all great examples of humanity. Don’t disparage her if you can’t say to yourself that you have done something for someone other than yourself or your own family/friends recently. Who have you been a blessing to? I hope AJ gets this role. I wish her only the best.
And one more thing…PLEASE, don’t write personal comments about these actors when you don’t know them to say the least, but base your opinions on the tabloids; try thinking of them as the actors and actresses that they are in the movies. Sometimes you can read these personal comments from others and it only defines them as being so shallow.
Angelina Jolie is the sexiest ,hottest,and the worlds most beautifull actress/mother. and also an epitome of what a woman should be! I love everything about her and cant wait to see her in this movie.You go girl!

Never a fan of Angelina’s acting. She’s more a celebrity than an actor. Tom’s got his issues in terms of where his celebrity has taken him, but he’s a much better actor and a much better choice than Angelina. Shame to see they’ve gone down this road.
I don’t understand why there’s so much haterade for AJ. It’s called “growing up”, people. If you’re still doing in your 30’s the stuff you did in your teens and 20’s, maybe you are the one with the problem. Give credit where credit is due…Angie could act rings around Tom Cruise and has the awards to prove it.
Breakthrough for women everywhere? Jolie has played spies and action movies dozens of times. This will be just like every other action movie with a chick. Edwina? Really? If they are trying to start a new franchise get a fresh, younger actor.

Jodi Foster took Sean Penn’s role in ‘Flightplan’ but nobody championed that as a ‘breakthrough for women everywhere.’ Why not? My guess is because Jodi hasn’t marketed herself as a savior the way A.J. has. i’ll call it a breakthrough for women when something besides boobs, lips and adultery characterizes our patron saint, or when a woman can snag a man’s gig in the directing/producing chair and EW champions THAT. Until then, wake me when the Angelina phase is over.

Tom Cruise has done some great acting–when he is playing very self-centered characters like Raymond’s brother in Rainman–in other words, when he can be HIMSELF! It has to be all about Tom for him to really shine. Angelina Jolie is a terrific actor, and very versatile, adds something of her own to every role she has played. Yo go girl!!
I don’t think I’ve seen an espionage thriller starring a woman since, what, “The Little Drummer Girl”? (In which Diane Keaton was, unfortunately, miscast.) This is definitely an interesting way to go with it, and I think it will be a good fit for Jolie, who can call on her action chops and her acting skills here. I am not sure why so many people hate on her for the crime of (ack!) having children or hooking up with a guy after he left his wife (no!), but the box office and web hits don’t lie: No matter how many haters there are, plenty more people love her.
Angie is much better actor than Tom Cruise. The producers know this and didn’t even rally for Tom to do the said movie…it also goes without saying that Angie is more bankable than Tom C.
Oh, give the girl a break. Haters of Angelina is only jealous of her. You can call her whatever you like but it won’t change the fact that she has everything that you can’t have on this lifetime, beauty, brain, fame and fortune, beautiful children, Brad Pitt and most specially a good heart. Haters, be good on this life, who knows you might have all Angelinas good karma in your next life.
Kudos for Angelina! She has proven to be good at everything she does, specially not caring for what other people say. There’s where I find her an excellent role model, she’s gorgeous, she’s succesful, she’s a loving woman/mother, a terrific actress and the envy of millions for all this!!!

Way to go Holywood studio! Tom Cruise and his antics has to go. He has lost touch with reality and a whole lot of female audience as we saw it. Get rid of him, tha is the only way the studio can attract me to the theater.
Movie Stars need to keep there on-screen personas seperate from their personal ritualistic beliefs & behaviors. I personally won’t see certain movies if I don’t care for certain actors. Especially when they make their personal beliefs overlap with their careers. That goes for all entertainers. Entertain us don’t lecture & influence us with your wisdom(ness).
Well cruise opened his pie hole and showed just how stupid he was, I paied him to entertain me not give me his idiot none educated, no degree or masters degree or dr.degree on his lame reading threw his cult.I since have never spent another penny on any of his movies and will not even watch him on tv, interviews or a rental movie, I see his picture posted and laugh, bet he enjoys turning light switches on and off like 300 times, to get his trills on his issues, oh well his problem, hes done
I’m glad. I find Tom Cruise extremely boring (and unintentionally comical) and I really wouldn’t feel attracted to watch a movie with him as a lead… or co-star… or extra.
