Johnny Depp
as the Mad Hatter? Sounds brilliant — and according to one very well-informed source, it’s true. Tim Burton’s upcoming take on the classic Lewis Carroll fairy tale, Alice in Wonderland 3-D is slated for release in 2010. The source reveals to EW.com that the film will be live action until Alice (played by Mia Wasikowska of HBO’s In Treatment) jumps down the rabbit hole and meets the loopy tea party host. The big question is whether Depp himself will don a Hatter outfit, or lend his voice to the computer-generated version. Disney and Depp’s camp won’t confirm whether the actor is set to play the nefarious charmer. No matter. We already know Depp looks great in a hat.

So, Tim and Johnny are taking another beloved children’s classic and turning it into something dark and disturbing that will scare children.

Are you serious? If you were educated at all in the literary arts you would know that ALL “beloved children’s classics” such as Alice in Wonderland, Cinderella (Auchenpettel), Snow White, sleeping Beauty all were written in Pagan times by the Brother’s Grimm and were ORIGIONALLY “dark and scary”. These stories are the BEST of human imagination!! ART at its BEST! Children should be interested in these origional stories in stead of BARNEY or HANNA MONTANA!

alice in wonderland is one of the strangest books I’ve ever read. Should be perfect for Depp and Burton.

    I can’t wait! Sounds great.

Dude, Alice in Wonderland was already dark and disturbing.

  • White Rabbit

Live Action would be better. Why is everything CGI nowadays.

  • Ekk!

I’m peeing my pants with excitement! I just can’t wait! I think it would be awesome if it was live.

  • G

if Johnny Depp keeps taking these kind of parts, he will loose his credibility as a serious actor.

  • sam

    Like he ever had any..

  • KL

Of course HBC will be in the movie, and when her children get older T. Burton will pimp them out too.

  • Dan

um, the jabberwocky is one of the scariest monsters in literature. how’s that NOT dark and disturbing to children. And by the way, I think children can handle it…

  • Rob Grizzly

I’m excited about Burton’s vision for the movie, but I’m way tired of Johnny Depp in all his movies.

  • Cheshire Cat

    Yes, please!
Now, if Tim and Johnny team up for Dark Shadows as rumored, my life will be complete!

  • boo

I agree. What does this make, number 8? Enough.

  • JD lover

they can keep making movies together, I love them

So tired of Johnny Depp in every Burton movie. He was good in Edward Scissorhands, but Sleepy Hollow, From Hell, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, and Sweeney Todd all sucked. I don’t want to see Alice ruined the way they ruined Charlie and Chocolate Factory.

Johnny Depp is a great actor! The parts he plays are always different, kinda like Jack Nicholson. I have loved every movie he has been in! Tim Burton and Johnny’s movies are always extrem, hold on to your seat movies. I hope they will be working together for a long time as you never know what they will do next!

  • jane

Does anyone else notice that he’s starting to look old? This pic really shows the wrinkles

  • Anonymous

check your facts anonymous, From Hell was not a T Burton movie.

  • Anonymous

I’m thinking depp won’t need a costume to play the mad hatter, just look at some of his everyday outfits

  • Anonymous

    yeah, but he’s cool

  • Anonymous

    Money hungry

  • jane

isn’t this girl a little old to play Alice?

  • Meg

No matter how old Johnny gets he will always be incredibly beautiful and talented. Those cheekbones are too die for! And his talent is amazing, i personally have loved all of Tim and Johnny’s collaborations. The only one I am not fond of is Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. But Sweeney Todd was really well done by Tim and Johnny

  • jing

This is very old news. This was confirmed a couple of weeks ago.

so?, it’s still interesting! Did you hear that he is making Public Enemy?
