The original '90210' was on too many years because it was an hour long show meaning it would run the risk of being garbage because it was hard for me to have a hard on the girls on the show. The FOX network was afraid of getting sued if they cancelled the show sooner than 2000 and the FCC pulling the plug on 90210 was waiting to happen.
