Mario Lopez — the Saved by the Bell alum who’s enjoyed a career resurgence thanks to stints on Nip/Tuck and Dancing With the Stars — will take over as host of the weekday syndicated show Extra beginning Sept. 15. Lopez had been serving as a correspondent and co-host for Extra’s weekend edition since January 2007. Extra co-host Dayna Devon will become a special correspondent, and Mark McGrath will go back to making music with Sugar Ray, which is expected to release another album in early 2009. Extra begins its 15th season this fall.

Okay, I was open-minded when this whole thing played out and was willing to give Mario a chance (even though he grates on my every last nerve) because I really love the show. Or did anyway when Dayna was host. Now I refuse to watch it. I have switched to a different show altogether because I miss Dayna. Mario is so annoying. I’m sorry! You screwed up NBC!

Was a faithful Access/eXtra junkie. Watched the new show for about a week. Couldn’t take it anymore. Crappy format, crappy host. (I have better words but they would get deleted). Would probably feel the same way even if ML was in his birthday suit. Found something else to watch.
