This morning, as thousands of gamers descend on Los Angeles for the E3 Media & Business Summit, Harmonix and MTV Games, makers of the popular video game Rock Band, will announce the real set list for the much anticipated sequel Rock Band 2, scheduled to be released for the Xbox 360 platform this September. The game will feature 80 songs, all comprised of original master recordings, including “Shackler’s Revenge,” the first official track from Guns N’ Roses’ (singer Axl Rose, pictured) long-awaited Chinese Democracy album, which has been 14 years in the making and rumored to be coming out this year. Bob Dylan will also be making his video game debut with “Tangled Up in Blue,” while AC/DC signed an exclusive deal for use of their music, including the arena anthem, “Let There Be Rock.”

Since its release in fall 2007, the Rock Band “music platform,” as executives at the companies like to call it, has seen massive success, moving upwards of 2.5 million game units (priced at $169) and selling over 15 million downloaded tracks (at $1.99 a pop). In comparison, its competitor, Activision’s Guitar Hero, which recently announced a full-band version of the game called Guitar Hero World Tour, has generated more than $1 billion in sales in just under three years. But in the arena of downloadable content, Rock Band aims to be the market leader, promising that by year’s end, its music library will house more than 500 tracks, making it the largest catalog in game history.

    OMFG UNCONTROLLABLE URGE!!!!!!

  • Andrew H.

More Soundgarden! Anything with Chris Cornell is a must for anything that has to do with Rock.
So far we’ve only got Black Hole Sun and Spoonman. NOTHING downloadable. The man is still relevant, still touring, and even has an album with Timbaland out this fall!!

That’s not even the whole list, leave it to mainstream to screw things up. There are 84 songs on the disc, not the 70 or so you have up. Hechk out ign.com for the full list.

    still missing Incubus

  • brooke

they need more songs with female voices! usually girls want to sing, if they play. love some of the new songs though..

  • Jstrang14

I’m glad I’m not the only person who can’t beleive these games aren’t putting in Incubus songs, since Incubus members are livid gaming fans ( Live at Red Rocks, they played HALO non stop till the show started) COME PEEPS, PUT in some INCUBUS PLZ!! Also Brooke is right. My g/f does vocals in Rock band, and she is hating it because there aren’t many female voiced songs… because you know that Guitar hero is trying to make their version of Rock Band more for a Male audience.

“Uncontrollable urge”? I mean, it’s great that we’ve got Elvis Costello and Talking Heads now (I’m completely ecstatic about that), but it’s nothing near as extreme as you’ve got it.

  • 80sfan

What about ‘Working for the Weekend’ or ‘I ran’?

  • Brandon

Wheres the death metal? hope it has double bass, no point in playing drums w/o double bass lol

  • Tom W.

I s*** my pance when i read this. I’m so excited.

    Finally Bob Dylan !!!!

  • champ

    yes!! finally, some paramore!!!

  • Nat X

Seriously, more chick singers, please. I guess guys are afraid of having to sing songs featuring female vocalists, while women are used to singing guy songs. Plus, there are just more dude rock singers. Also, most women (not all, but most) are not going to invest the [wasted] time it takes to master the Rock Band instruments, so they gravitate to the microphone. Our Rock Band, Captain Teutonics, is almost always a 50/50 boy/girl make-up. It is the ONLY video game I can or will participate in.

Yay! Kansas! I was hoping for Lightnings Hand at some point, but YAY!

  • Mark McC

Battery, Let There Be Rock, Peace Sells, Alive, Eye of The Tiger, Chop Suey. God! I just hope us Europeans can actually play Band World Tour over Xbox Live this time…..

  • Tenna

I am so excited to see “PDA” and “Carry On Wayward Son” on there. I am also kind of excited for “Hungry Like The Wolf” — whoops. :D

  • Jeweled

I can not WAIT for RB2. I fell in love with the first one and now I don’t hardly play GH3 anymore because of it. The new setlist is awesome and the fact that DLC is going to be back compatible makes me so happy. I CAN’T WAIT!

God dammit, it’s a blatant lie to say that AC/DC and Bob Dylan are debuting in Rock Band 2- they are NOT. Both artists have been in videogames from years and years ago. Do your homework before you announce a major selling point that happens to be 100% erroneous.

  • sandalman

it is meant they will be in the first music simulation game that isnt a gay little flash game

  • Alyson May

It’s AFI’s “Girl’s Not Grey” not “Girl’s Gone Grey”. Check YouTube if you don’t believe me.

NAT X—- You are correct….and I am not looking forward to singing Allanis Morrisette’s song about going down on a guy in a theater. I may skip that song.

this is amazing. Bob Dylan and Interpol are a nice suprise.

  • Nee Nee

I like how many of these songs are a little less “mainstream”. MORE PEARL JAM, PLEASE!!! There are some really great songs, but there are also quite a few crappy songs. Who the heck cares about a new GNR song? I’d much rather play a well-known classic. I’m very pleased to see Interpol, Soundgarden, The Donnas, Dinosaur Jr, and “Everlong” (everyone’s fave Foo Fighters song). Yeah, I’d buy this game. I’m still enjoying the first one, but if it weren’t for all of the downloadable songs, I’d be tired of it.

Neeed some Ozzy on these games
