ABC to develop 'In the Motherhood' for midseason

Inthemotherhood_lNBC faltered in its attempt to adapt the Internet series quarterlife for prime-time TV, but that hasn’t stopped ABC from turning to the Web for comedic inspiration. The network is developing the online series In the Motherhood as a midseason comedy. Motherhood, which was developed by MindShare Entertainment and is sponsored by Suave shampoo and Sprint, stars E! talk-show host Chelsea Handler, Two and A Half Men's Jenny McCarthy, and The King of Queens’ Leah Remini as harried moms (the series of five- to seven-minute episodes first launched on the Web in 2007). ABC may even retain the series’ original conceit by encouraging its 21 million-plus online viewers to submit story ideas about their own parenting experiences. In fact, one memorable moment in Motherhood was based on a real-life submission by a parent whose child defecated in a display toilet at a store. “The show’s not just about screaming kids,” promises MindShare president David Lang.

One catch: the actors have yet to sign on to the project, which is still in the script stage at ABC. Stay tuned.

I know! I wanted the originl cast too. offer them more or something! not sure if i'll watch it on ABC. Chelsea Handler really made the show. She is the funiest thing alive!

I expected Leah Remini and the original cast to be a part of the new show on ABC! What happened?

I am a big fan of the web episodes. I won't be the same if the original three do not sign on!

I'm a 45 y.o. male Family Physician and loved all the web episodes and watch them and the out-takes over and over for relaxation after a hard day with a cold beer!!! Hopefully the original 3 will sign on for the series, as their on-screen chemistry is second to none. Anyone else would be disappointing!!!

I cannot believe how hysterically funny these web shows are. I sat and watched every one straight thru! If it becomes a sitcom, I am definitely going to be a loyal watcher!

Wendy Sun, Nov 23, 2008 at 02:40 PM EST

I agree it MUST have all three actors from the Web or I won't watch the TV version. It's their chemistry that makes the show. From the eye rolling to the girl next door and let's not forget Jenny has the "perfect sister" Love the web version wished it was back.

I LOVE... In The Motherhood.
All the kids are fantastic little actors. I especially love the one where the sister is going to send her little sister out of the country. I WANT A PUPPY! I remember feeling the same way about my baby sister. Of course I love her now!! ;)

I am thrilled about this, I have been saying this should be a full length primetime sitcom since the first time I saw it! It's hilarious! I love Chelsea, Leah, and Jenny together, and it would be best if they keep them together! Loved Megan Mulally on W&G too - so funny! - could be a great addition. I can't wait!

Loved working with Leah in '89 on "Living Dolls" and doing "live" video responses for the ITM discussion board:

Okay. I hate kids. But this made me laugh my a$$ off. Hopefully, this WILL make it as a series, because it's actually funny and original and has peoplein it that those of us without kids can stand...

No, Applejax, "Notes" is gone, which is so dumb because this show would have been a great compliment. Yet, "According to Jim" lives on.

Applejax Wed, Jun 11, 2008 at 03:09 PM EST

Wait a minute. Notes from the Underbelly was canceled? When? I thought Season 2 was back for midseason?

Martin Wed, Jun 11, 2008 at 02:28 PM EST

I heard from a very reliable source that a pilot has already been shot and that the show will more than likely debut midseason.

WATCH CHELSEA LATELY THAT IS THE BEST LATE NITE SHOW EVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
SHE BEATS ALL THE OTHER GUYS IN A HEART BEAT.

CndnBrook Wed, Jun 11, 2008 at 01:37 PM EST

If this were to go primetime and the 'biz' people stick to the original concept, this could turn out to be one of the best shows in network tv. Those 3 women together are friggin hilarious, and if you haven't caught Chelsea Lately...then do it! That girl is funny!

junior Wed, Jun 11, 2008 at 01:02 PM EST

Excuse me ABC. Couldn't you have paired this with "Notes from the Underbelly" instead of canceling it, killing my Rachel Harris fix.

Jaime Wed, Jun 11, 2008 at 01:01 PM EST

DAMNNN that would be one hot show 3 comedic GODS in one show. . . !

Oh i love Chelsea LOVE LOVE LOVE HER. .. and the others i have grown to love cus these mini episodes are hillarious! This would be a perfect fit right after Samantha Who~

Wed, Jun 11, 2008 at 10:54 AM EST

If Leah is in it I will watch. She was great on The King of Queens!

jes Wed, Jun 11, 2008 at 09:11 AM EST

Love all 3 women...especially Chelsea (although I've never seen her actually ACT) and Leah. But they're all hysterical. Hope it pans out and the series is given a chance.
