Sony is moving forward with what may be the most unlikely superhero film yet: The Green Hornet starring Seth Rogen. The Knocked Up star will play Britt Reid, a bored playboy who inherits his father’s crusading newspaper and spends his nights fighting crime with his sidekick, Kato. Additionally, Rogen is currently penning the film’s script with his writing partner, Evan Goldberg (Superbad); Sony has yet to hire a director for the project. Hornet is due in theaters on June 25, 2010.

Oh oh…another superhero movie. I think I just heard Chris Nashawaty punch a wall.
Oh no, if it’s Seth Rogan that means it’s a comedy. Why can’t Hollywood respect the source material for this? Why do they have to turn it into a joke?
Hollywood is so unoriginal. Everyone is now getting on the “let’s cast the most unlikely person possible” for a superhero. Tobey McGuire & Christian Bale are good. Can’t we just leave it at that?
Actors can do serious work you know and I have complete faith in Seth Rogen — who should have gotten more award recognition for Knocked Up — the best comedy of last year.
you gotta be kiddin? this guy? I’ve been dreaming of this for the last 10 years and look what hollyweird pulled out of their ass.And It’s schedule for my 54th birthday.omg that’s a premier for me to poop on!
hmm Van Williams vs. Seth Rogan. yeah um no competition. I’m so extremely disappointed.
Listen up Negativity Nerds Seth Rogen rocks! This will be a great movie, and depending on the director, could be Freak’n AWESOME. Seth will bring an odd sense of realism, to a surrealistic situation. From a creative point of view this has a chance to be something really unique. Seth is slimming down for this role, and talked about the part of Kato, Here Seth will tell you: “I think what’s most important about the Kato part is it’s someone that you believe can kick the s#!t out of a lot of people. ['Kung Fu Hustle' star] Steven Chow is incredible. That was someone we had talked about. I’m a big Tony Jaa fan also.” Thanks Seth. Either choice there is a great one. Steven Chow is a freaking amazing director as well. Seth also addressed the negativity surrounding this film online: “Nerds love complaining. You go Ain’t It Cool News, and everybody complains about everything. They could find out Jesus Christ was making a movie with Frank Miller, and they’d say ‘That’s a terrible combination!”
If it’s done straight, I would have no problem with Seth Rogen headlining the project. After all, Michael Keaton was better known for comedic roles before he did “Batman.”
But if it’s a sendup a la Owen Wilson and Ben Stiller in the big-screen “Starsky and Hutch,” I don’t even want to be in the country when it’s released!
Seth Rogan has actually gone on record saying the movie is going to be played straight, not a spoof, not a comedy.
Give him the benefit of the doubt, he’s made good choices so far.
And Freaks & Geeks rocks.
Ceballos- lol!
I find Seth very attractive and even I was a little freaked to think of him in a tight suit. It didn’t help that EW decided to post the most unflattering image of him! But if he does slim down a bit, I think it could work really well. I love him enough to see it even if there’s a spandex-covered paunch involved!
Ok first of all, do some research people. The Green Hornet isn’t a superhero by the common definition. He doesn’t wear a costume short of a trench coat and a simple mask.(The Hornet is a blood relative of the Lone Ranger) Kato is his chauffeur as well as his sidekick and master mechanic. They’re just regular guys with no “powers” or abilities outside the humanly possible and some ingenious gadgetry. The Hornet is an anti-hero in that he isn’t always on the right side of the law with his tactics, and he usually only hunts mobsters and seemingly untouchable corporate scum in order to expose them. Though similar to Batman in terms of gadgetry and stealth, but also closely compared to a vigilante like Punisher, he is “smooth” and discrete in both costume and manner. Do you see now why Seth Rogen is a poor choice in every conceivable way?
I would give Rogen a chance — he wasn’t always “funny” on Freaks and Geeks, which was a terrific show, and I think although his persona is goofy, he may well prove capable of doing something serious and good. I am taking a “wait and see” approach.
Do you think he’ll do South Beach Diet or Master Cleanse?
The only person worse to cast in the role of Britt Reid would be Rosie O’Donnell. Boy, Sony – you blew it this time!
And Sony will cast the Kung Fu Panda as Kato!!! LOL.
And inside of Black Beauty being an Imperial sedan — it will be an oversized SUV — with roll bars!!! LOL
Really? Are you serious?
This friggin rules. As previously mentioned, his role in F&G was way different than his movie roles.
I just hope in real life he tracks down the plebes posting here against him and delivers some much deserved green justice.
Maybe change the title from “Green Hornet” to “Green Cannon?”
(those of you who remember the William Conrad series would get this…)
For those who haven’t seen it here is a fairly well done fan film: http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=4298362767025417950&q=green+hornet&ei=suRGSNrbOJOg4AKeiIGbDA
seth rogen better lose some serious weight and bulk up at least a little bit. besides that i would give him a chance as long as it isn’t a comidic movie or else this movie will suck.
I’d watch John Goodman as the Green Hornet if he can get Tony Jaa as Kato!! Besides, they’d save money on wires and stuntmen, since Tony Jaa can do ANYTHING! And I wouldn’t be disappointed with Stephen Chow, either, but I think it’s Tony’s time to be recognized for the amazing talent he is.
Casting and writing with NO regards to the original material destroyed “I Spy”, “Wild Wild West” “The Mod Squad” and “Lost in Space”. Sure is a shame that no one will EVER revisit those franchises. And NOW Will Smith is set to play Alexander Mundy in “It Takes a Thief”–MORE horrible, short-sighted, self-indulgent casting!!! Smith is a great actor, but he wasn’t James West and he sure won’t be Al Mundy.
Box office history has shown that taking a favorite TV franchise and trashing it to make a buck just doesn’t work. I’m sure when “Hogan’s Heroes” hits the big screen, it will be played for laughs and, like “Get Smart”, that’s the way it should be. But play “Man from UNCLE”, “Magnum” or “Time Tunnel” strictly for laughs and I’ll be staying home and renting it a month later.
Cheers to Rogen if he plans to play it straight. Jeers if he plays it for laughs.
seth rogen…if u fuk dis up i will fukin kill you!!!!!
What is wrong with Hollywood? Just because a person is in a hit movie does not mean the person should be in every other movie being made. Seth Rogan is a terrible choice for Green Hornet. The Hornet was smooth, cool and attractive. Seth Rogan is none of these things. I guess no one wants any woman to go see this movie. This is making me ill.
Rogen you Idiot!! Don’t even think about playing the GH. Have you learned nothing from Batman Begins and The Dark Knight as to what EXCELLENT direction and casting is all about. This is the worst casting since Val Kilmer and George Clooney played Batman.
Furthermore as far as Kato goes, the ONLY one who has the ability to play this character is Tony Jaa.
(sarcasm) Heck why not Seth Green and Bobby Lee. Or Joe Rogan and Cathy Lee? I mean, why not get in with both feet and go all the way retarded? Screw the fans purple if you’re gonna screw em right?<<Hollywood just sucks.
Buffing up and slimming down? I don't care if he has liposuction, a head transplant, and is magically imbued with the spirit of General Patton, they will never be able to convince me that he is Britt Reid. That's gonna have to be some kinda serious voodoo movie magic right there. I can hardly picture him fighting his way out of a Taco Bell, let alone back to back with a skilled martial arts master out of an alley full of armed goons bent on killing him.
Speaking of kicking the crap out of murderous goons… Did anybody watch that short film I linked? The fight scenes are really good. I love the way they have the Hornet using his fists most of the time and how Kato kinda saves his butt in the alley. Nicely done. I'd love to see what Poitrimoult, Lanzi and Vo could do with the cash they are going to flush with the stink that was Seth Rogen's career.
Seth Rogen…. I liked him in Freaks and Geeks & 40 Year old Virgin but him as the heroic Green Hornet ?
Yikes.
He’s a good comedic actor but playing an action hero in a serious adventure movie just might be a little out of his reach.
Where’s the usual guys that would get cast in this role ? The Christian Bales, the Hugh Jackmans or even the
Thomas Janes?
At this point, I’ll even pick that guy from “KEEN EDDIE” – Mark Valley or brit Colin Salmon.
I think people are confusing Green Hornet with Green Lantern. Nobody in this generation even REMEMBERS the actor who played Britt Reid. Seth could be no worse as Britt than Adam West was as Bruce Wayne. I think the big issue is casting Kato. I hope they will be updating the characters
This is the worst news! I remember Van Williams and he was fabulous. Tony Jaa is a great choice for Kato but Seth Rogan yuck! Yet another film I will Not waste Money on. Please stop this before it is too late.
