Nicollette Sheridan to return for more 'Desperate Housewives'

Edie_l Nicollette Sheridan, whose saucy Edie Britt has been largely MIA from Desperate Housewives lately, will continue to wreak her special brand of havoc on Wisteria Lane next season, despite rumors to the contrary (and despite the fact that she's not scheduled to appear in the last two hours of this season). A source close to the production tells EW.com that the actress will make at least "several appearances" when the ABC drama returns in the fall.

When the storyline will be set is another question: As previously reported, exec producer Marc Cherry is considering going all One Tree Hill and transporting the ladies either five years forward or five years back in their lives to freshen things up. And Queer as Folk's Gale Harold will be guest starring at the end of this season to help smooth the transition, which all seems to add up to...yeah, we still have no idea how this all plays into the "shocking" twist that will "change the whole series," as Cherry teased to EW in March.

i pray and hope that the 5 year jump doesn't take place next season and that the clip at the end of the finale was just a "teaser" to make everyone wonder.

IF they go ahead 5 years or go back 5 years, they would have to find other people to play lynetts kids because they look about 8 or 9. you cant make them look 13 and 14. If they go back in time, it would be worse because kayla, katherine, dylan, and all the other people that werent in season 1,2,or 3 will not be in season 5.

I smell shark...jumping. Was DH broke?
Why are they fixing it? Edie is my fave character on the show. If she's not in it or is making "several appearances" it's going to change the way I view the show. Another program may be in future if the mess with the formula that made love the show.

How many several appearances will Nicollette Sheridan make as Edie Britt on Season 5 of "Desperate Housewives" before she completely leaves the series for good?

I'd like to see five years back but they'd have to recast all the kids. The narrator would still be alive. They all look too old though.

"The shocking twist that will change the whole series."? Isn't that what he said about last year's Edie-hanger, which changed absolutely nothing?

Setting the series back five years would be around six months prior to the Youngs' mystery. (Remember: the series jumped forward about half a year after the Applewhites moved away.) So Mary Alice would be alive, but I just don't know how else things would be impacted positively.

Julie and all other children's roles would almost certainly be cut, and that would be unfortunate, since it adds needed dimension to the storytelling. A move forward would certainly seem easier, if I were writing/casting this.

The writers of this show have enough problems with continuity in a linear format. Jumping back and forth in time would be disastrous.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but being that next year will be the show's 5th season, wouldn't a five year rewmind just put us back where we started?? It would around the time of Mary Alice's death and technically we'd be rehashing things we already know. Also, we'd lose some of the best actors on the show like Dana Delany and the character of Julie (who simply could not be made to look like a preteen again). A 5 year jump backwards in time would kill the series. Five years forward might be interesting, but it would really depend on how they set it up at the end of this season. My guess is that Mary Alice is alive. That's the only reason I could see going backwards in time making any sense - to show us how she faked her death. But I'd still much prefer the show remain linear and not jump around in time at all.

Good! Edie is one of my favorite characters...I miss the interaction she had with Susan from S1....

OHHHH Gale Harold on every week. I cannot wait to see him again. I will be watching.

5 years from now the Scavo twins will be in Juvy.

If the five year rumor is true, I hope to GOD they go AHEAD five years. If they went backwards it simply would not work.

Not that ABC would ever flog a dead horse. Of course, of course, they will just mimic something an inventive show like "Lost" has already been doing for several years. That Great White Shark in San Diego last week has nothing on the jumping ability of this once very good show.
