Scott Baio to exec produce VH1 reality series featuring former male teen idols

May 8, 2008, 12:52 PM | by Dan Snierson

Categories: TV Biz

Scottbaio_l Cue the high-pitched squeals: VH1 is greenlighting a reality series in which eight male teen idols from the 1980s and '90s shack up together and reflect on the highs and lows of heartthrobbery. After receiving mentoring from a life coach and industry experts, each one decides whether to attempt a career comeback or to swear off Hollywood for good. Executive producers on the still-untitled show — which is slated to debut early next year — include Scott Baio and Jason Hervey, who know a thing or two about teen fame (Baio with Happy Days, Hervey with The Wonder Years) and VH1 (Scott Baio is 45…and Single, Scott Baio is 46…and Pregnant).

Sorry about the typo. I meant that I would like to see more of Scott Baio in Confessions of a Teen Idol especially wearing tight jeans. Why should Renee, his wife, be the only one who can see his ass.

Mary Wed, Feb 25, 2009 at 12:17 AM EST

I agree with that other girl, I would like to see more of Scott Baio in Confessions of a Teen Idol wearing tight jeans so tat I can see that hot ass like we use to in Charles in Charge.

what a wonderfully refreshing show of all my crushes in one way or another, telling life as it really was and is for them at this time, you have to respect a person to let their lives be shown to everyone. you all all my heroes just for letting me know the truth aqnd harsh reality of your lives. you are truely strong and have alot more to give of yourselves and i for one hope each and everyone of you susceed in whatever you have set your next goal on. all my love and best to you. kandie

Dear Scott,
I think what you are doing is realy nice for the guys you have entered into this "conffessions" show. Some of them I grew up with , others I don't realy recall . Not because they weren't important - yet maybe the show they were on on I wasn't interested in. I do hope they either understand where they want to be in their lives, and do realize - all good things do come to an end - eventually. The only realy popular people that die super famouse is usually because of an unfortunate accident or drug overdose. I would realy hate to see that happen to any of these guys'. They are all so talented and could go so many directions. FAME is a 4 letter word. Good for some - not so kind for others. I will log back again soon. Good Luck to al the fellas! I hope you find the answers you need in you search.
Sincerely 80's Chick
Amanda

Less than five minutes of my valueable time I peaked at the show on vh1
It is not entertainment/educational to see grown men want to be teen again.
Fall down in woe stories somewhere else.
What a waste of film footage.
These coming middle age men should forget reality shows and start casting calls for roles in the entertainment.

Donna Sat, Jan 10, 2009 at 02:20 AM EST

I just watched the first show, and I have to say I was supprised. I liked it, because these guys all seem classy. It made me want to see them all succeed. It showed them in a good light, and it doesn't portray them as loosers. I am tired of these reality shows where you are embarassed for the people on them. I appauld you all.

I am so excited for Billy. Truly, he is back in show business where he belongs. His undeniable energy and spirit for this business shines through in his beautiful music. I am so proud and was fortunate enough to know him some time ago. I miss you.

Beverly Pulaczewski Sun, Nov 9, 2008 at 11:12 AM EST

Can't wait for it to come out! Billy still as Hot and Sexy as he ever was! We've missed you Billy!!! Glad to see you are coming back! Hmmm, wonder if he's going to wear a pair of tight jeans for all his adoring fans out here...Although, he does look great just wearing a towel. For those of you that don't know, Billy is also working on a CD that is due to be released soon. Watch for it! If you would like to hear more about it or hear some of his singing, go to www.myspace.com/billyhufsey. While you're there, why not add him as a friend. Billy is a really sweet man and will answer all emails personally.

Karen Mon, Nov 3, 2008 at 10:32 PM EST

In an episode of friends, one of the women said "I just met a man who is drop dead gorgeous. He looks like a jewish Scott Baio". I like the italian american Scott Baio from Brooklyn.

fanofbillyhufsey Sun, Nov 2, 2008 at 02:43 PM EST

So, excited about the VH1 show that Scott Baio is producing!! Can't wait to see Billy Hufsey on there! It is great to see him making a comeback!

Marlene Sat, Nov 1, 2008 at 09:01 PM EST

I want to see Scott Baio wearing tight jeans again. He will literally make hearts throb on that new heart throb show that's coming out this winter.

michelle Sun, Oct 26, 2008 at 06:35 PM EST

WE LOVE YOU BILLY HUFSEY!!!!!!!
This is for all the Billy Hufsey fans out there!

michelle Sun, Oct 26, 2008 at 06:29 PM EST

80's hunk Billy Hufsey is the most friendly, sincere and talented heart throb you would want to know. We Love You Billy! ( check him out!)

Michelle Sun, Oct 26, 2008 at 06:23 PM EST

Personally, Billy Hufsey I guarantee, is the most talented, friendly and sincere of all 80's teen idols out there!

Marlene Sun, Oct 26, 2008 at 12:55 AM EST

Scott Baio is 45 and single would have doubled its rating if Scott would have worn tight jeans like he did in Happy Days and Charles in Charge. He still has a hot body and a great backside.

Katrina Mon, May 26, 2008 at 02:10 AM EST

I have been Billy Hufsey's BIGGEST fan for more than 20 years! I cannot imagine ANY male icon who emcompasses "80's fan hyseteria" better than Billy! He's AMAZING! Have you seen him NOW??? OMG!!! The man is even SEXIER NOW than he was before! I checked him out on Youtube and MySpace....my knees are STILL shaking! We should all be so lucky as to still have that "X" factor making the girls scream the way he does! Does anyone know how I can meet him???? This show would not be "reality" if Billy Hufsey isn't included!

Kyle Wed, May 21, 2008 at 09:26 AM EST

A most promising and highly intriguing concept for a new reality show at first glance. But it needs to distinguish itself from other similar programs like "The Surreal Life" and "Celebrity Rehab". Proper casting will be the ultimate key in determining the eventual success of this series. "Scott Baio Is 45 And Single/46 And Pregnant" utilized to great effect his playboy reputation and pop culture media iconship. If this new reality show does not cast at least equally compelling characters to interact with Mr. Baio, it may prove to be not as successful.

Kelli Tue, May 20, 2008 at 02:22 PM EST

Yes i agree i would love to see Billy Hufsey again! I use to watch him on Fame and Days of our lives. Bring back Billy!!!

kathy Kubik Tue, May 20, 2008 at 06:15 AM EST

I Love Billy Hufsey! I use to watch him on FAME and Days of Our Lives. In fact I still have his poster where he is wearing only a towel. I hope Billy is on the show. I woudl love to see him again.

Christin Wed, May 14, 2008 at 01:08 PM EST

Robbie Benson, Rick Springfield, Phillip McKeon

Jillian Tue, May 13, 2008 at 11:46 AM EST

Maybe Scott can convince his cousin, Jimmy Baio to do the show! That guy has been MIA for years!

Karen Sullivan Sun, May 11, 2008 at 08:05 PM EST

Reality a baby boom
A last resort for yesterdays heart throbs.Nice Scott Baio but do not stop at reality TV it proves a point idols launch on memories and don't try to audition in features as adults
I hope the new vh1 series include Robby Benson and all the 70s idols
Fans know the reality life-Life after oooing and aweing for idols
when will fans get a time slot?

CC Sun, May 11, 2008 at 07:14 AM EST

Pleeeeease... make it stop!!!

Roddy Sat, May 10, 2008 at 10:03 PM EST

Jack Wagner aka "Frisco Jones" ?!?

TR Fri, May 9, 2008 at 09:19 PM EST

Just thought of another one...Brian Bloom - what a cutie!

TR Fri, May 9, 2008 at 09:18 PM EST

So how far back are we talking? Scott should consider the following former teen flames:David Cassidy, Jermaine Jackson, Tony DeFranco, Vince Van Patten, Michael Gray, Scott Jacoby, Radames Pera and Butch Patrick just to name a few. How 'bout it?

Mirillie Fri, May 9, 2008 at 05:42 PM EST

Love Scott Baio is...single and... pregnant. They were very entertaining because Scott was willing to share his honest feelings with all of America. I found him completely childish and immature at time, but I liked the shows. I will give this show a watch to see if I like it.

sisterfriend Fri, May 9, 2008 at 03:56 PM EST

Anyone remember Tony DiFranco? Flash in the pan teen heartthrob (and, yah, had his posters on my walls) but I saw him not long ago in a "where are they now" show and OMFG he grew up GOOOOOOOD. Please please please, Scott, put Tony in your show! It will be nice to have eye candy to help counter what other heartthrobs have grown into ;-)

sh Fri, May 9, 2008 at 12:19 PM EST

scott baio is an immature jerk - hard to believe he is a husband and father now - kudos to renee for staying with him - could scott really be that much of an assh***

cndn610 Fri, May 9, 2008 at 09:29 AM EST

I loved Scott's shows. I'd rather see "Scott Baio is 47 and a Father".

Jennifer Fri, May 9, 2008 at 08:58 AM EST

Jason Bateman, Joey Lawrence, Kirk Cameron...oh, wait, they're all still in the biz.

Lisa Thu, May 8, 2008 at 09:41 PM EST

I'll definitely watch this!

Mark Thu, May 8, 2008 at 09:10 PM EST

Everyone always has a soft spot for their first crush. Scott Baio was mine, so I watch his show, even though it isn't great. I think this show will get decent ratings because those of us who were teens back then are going to tune in to see the guys we were in love with on TV!

Sharlin Thu, May 8, 2008 at 06:34 PM EST

I think Scott's show was one of the real gems of "reality tv." We dont really get good ones and I hope this one is good too.

Rae Thu, May 8, 2008 at 06:10 PM EST

The girls who know these 2 heart throbs are the ones who grew up watching them. We have husbands the same age. Why would we take on their midlife belly-aching as well. Young people won't care because they can't remember them. Idiots. This is so in the toilet.

Michael Thu, May 8, 2008 at 05:57 PM EST

Scott Baio. Jason Hervey. Please take your fake reality and go away. PLEASE!

vw Thu, May 8, 2008 at 04:04 PM EST

i'd definitely watch this.

dan jones Thu, May 8, 2008 at 02:03 PM EST

Jason Hervey was a "heartthrob"? We are talking about the meatheaded older brother from the Wonder Years right?

Elizabeth Thu, May 8, 2008 at 01:32 PM EST

Oh lordy... this may be more depressing than entertaining.

jul Thu, May 8, 2008 at 01:26 PM EST

They need to get Mitch's son from Baywatch. That would be great.

RochesterBluthFan Thu, May 8, 2008 at 01:19 PM EST

Given how amusing the Scott Baio reality shows have been up to now I hope this holds pace. It will be interesting to watch how well some of them can come to grips with the fact that a comeback won't materialize.
