Okay, in reply to this person, you have the books a little wrong.
Blair doesn't end up with nate, she sails off with him in the second last book but they break up and she ends up at Yale. Serena stays in Ny and Nate sails around the world with some guy.
Also, JENNY WAS NOT CHUBBY in the books. it say about 10 times in every single book that shes a size 6 but a 12 in the bust. It always says that shes so tiny with big boobs. She WAS NOT chubby.
That aside, we all need to get over the books and realise the show is different, if it were the same as the books it would just be boring and would stop after 12 episodes.

And it would be very boring, if you want to see some realistic lives just stay at your own but don't say that gossip girl is over the top. I hate when people remark if it is exposing real teen life....first of all its a hightened reality....the writr have explained this...and sewcondly...yes that is what teens love to do party, dress up, and have sex....through this we grow find morals and level ourselves into adulthood with memories in mind and new goals to pursue...this show demonstrates this idea well with its soundtrack and character developement...and as for WHY it isnt like the book???? Are you serious.....Why would you even ask that??? Of course it wont be like the books because one thats plagarizing...and the author would be entitled to a lot more money...secondly a writer chooses his characters and casts them on his vision....not the original writers because we are all individuals...Also all the plots would be ruined and there would be no need for more seasons.

Ok so mixed reviews on this show, personally ive loved the books and the show is nothing like them, which i completly don't get-
wat happened to druggy Nate
red haired, big boobed Jenny on the slightly plump side
the tourtured soul, poetry reading film making Dan!
AND VANNESSA- erm....goth-like with a short shaved head...i think not!?
and wasnt it vannessa that got D and S together with her film in the park!
AS LONG AS THEY still put Blair in the original B at T flat to make a movie/play remake and then she ends up sailing into the sunset with Nate forever and Serena becomes fav. with Oscar-de-la-Rente in the end I am fine, at least head towards where the book goes!
however it is a typical American, all skinny pretty person show.
I hated it at first as it wasn't anything like the book, but then I got passed that and like One-Tree-Hill it is addictive and I love it- the first love scene between C and B was what hooked me!

I liked the books and hate the show. I'm sorry that is just not real teen life. The writers need to be fired, they don't have a shred of imagination, if you have to rely on sex alone to get an audience to watch your show, you obviously have no talent for writing.I'm seventeen years ago and have a boyfriend and I'm definately NOT a prude. But I get kinda tired seeing the same thing on every show. C'mon show us something new already or leave. It just seems so out of touch to the real teen experience. Honestly I think the only people who really watch this is maybe 11-14 year old who know their parents don't like it. And since they never had a boyfriend or had sex yet they still find this stuff exciting. Yawn. Get a life.

First of all...yea not everyone is rich but obviously the people around you are going to be if you live in an area like the upper east side...second..i do think they do a good job at depicting real life in the show. i have friends that live in the upper east side and they say that they do need to always be mannered or else there parents freak out on them...they always need to look there best in the public eye..that makes them want to party hard and drink and do other stuff...if u have the money to get what you want then go for it...and as for finding who u r...thats exactly what happens on the show...serena changed because she didnt want to drink and get drunk anymore because it ruined her life....DUH

Nate and Serena hook up in the Hamptons, even though Nate is still technically with Vanessa. They end up breaking up. Vanessa and Dan end up together. Blair is pissed at Chuck for blowing off the Tuscany trip. Lilly sleeps with Rufus again, except this time Bart finds out and the marriage is ruined.

I'm sure there's more...but I can't remember it right now:)

for those of you who are upset with the CW for the OMFG ads, you obviously haven't been to middle school, let alone high school, in a while. teens and preteens are much more mature than most think. In one day in middle school i could probably hear more innapropriate language and comments than a year of my life, let's say, at an office. kids in middle school date, kiss, and do much more so don't think that this ad is showing them a side of life that they shouldn't be seeing...they already live in it.

I've never watched this show, and I don't have anything against it, however I take real issue with their advertising -- 'OMFG'? If it means what I'm guessing it means....I work with middle and high school age students, and it really bothers me that a tv network is putting their stamp of approval on language that I believe is inappropriate to such a young and influential crowd....it's hard enough for kids to grow up these days w/out Hollywood lowering the bar.

Gossip Girl has actually turned into a really good show for what it is. I think it's actually up to the same level The OC was at its prime (which was really good).

I have watched the show from the start and think it is genius for what it is. This is a show aboung the lives and dramas of rich and beautiful young people. It is smartly written, very funny and with great cast. What more could you wish for?
The fact that it doesn't have high ratings doesn't mean a thing. Some of the best show on TV have low ratings.

It's like saying that only good shows have the highest audience - well in that case go watch Two and a half men or something. It sure has high ratings.

As for the accusation that "no one is watching," think outside the box. The show is always the number one seller on iTunes come Wednesday morning and before the CW made the dumbass move of pulling the show from online, it did well in that venue as well. Viewers of this show aren't normal TV watchers. They get their TV from non-traditional sources.

How much is Entertainment Weekly getting paid to keep pretending that this is a hot show?

It came back from hiatus and was easily one of the lowest-rated shows on television... it's certainly the lowest-rated show on television to get any ink from the press.

This show is not a big deal. No one is watching it and real people don't care about it. It's not even a good show to begin with, which makes this abundance of press across the board seem very suspicious (and annoyingly undeserved).
