Rush Hour 1 only works becuase of the chemistry between Chris Tucker and Jackie Chan. It has nothing to do with Ratner directing. Bret Ratner may have some decent movies, but what makes them decent has nothing to do with him. Hundreds of people are working on a film and its there talent that masks Ratners shortcomings as a director.

I don't necessarily think Ratner is an overall bad director, but I will say that this movie will be riding more on Downey's talent as an acomplished actor than Rater's directing. So it should be good.

Robt. Downey Jr. is so good at what he does...he could probably portray Hefner almost better than Hefner portrays himself.

Noooooo. I'm with you Rose Tyler: Yes, a biopic of Hefner could be interesting but not, especially not, if it's directed by Brett Ratner, who has little real talent I am amazed/disappointed he even gets to make anything at all.

He would make an excellent Hugh Hefner but if Brett Ratner is directing then it'll be dumbed down crap. It's a shame because Hef has a very interesting life and is a great character. I really hope the movie gets made with RDJ and a different director.

Eh, am I the only one who doesn't think Ratner is completely disposable as a director? I liked the first two Rush Hour films (RH3 was mediocre), enjoyed X3 (I disliked the Singer directed X1 and Superman Returns more) and Prison Break, which he executive produces. I just find it ironic that after all the crap critics get for panning some popcorn films from most moviegoers, Ratner is the kind of director that caters to the crowd (along with Michael Bay and Paul Anderson). Maybe Ratner does deserve some flack but not total admonishment. That category should be exclusive to Uwe Boll, who's produced nothing but atrocity after atrocity for cinemas worldwide.
As for this, I can agree Ratner's motives are suspect on hiring RDJ right after Iron Man and that it's a bad idea to name check actors on a project before they read the script. That's just taking a risky and unnecessary gamble.
