Should Robert Downey Jr. start trying on silk pajamas? Yes indeed, Brett Ratner tells EW.com. The director (X-Men: The Last Stand) says that he’s met with and wants the Iron Man star to portray Playboy founder Hugh Hefner in Ratner’s planned biopic, tentatively titled Playboy. “Robert Downey Jr. agreed to do it based on the script,” the director says. “We’re gonna hand him the script very shortly. He loves the character and the role and we’ve been meeting with him on it. So, if he wants to do it, we’re excited to have him.” Ratner adds, “We wanted him before Iron Man so we were ahead of the curve.” Downey’s rep declined to comment.

Well that sounds like dumb-a$s Ratner to me…. he pretty much has to SEE Robert Downey Jr as Hef in “Iron Man” to think of it. There’s nothing creative about this guy. Downey would probably do well, but it would pretty much be Tony Stark again. Ratner is just so uncreative and hackish it makes my head spin.

  • Fatima

Oh and I really don’t buy that they wanted him before Iron Man. I don’t have any proof, but I know I’m right

  • gisel

i agree – there is no way they would’ve wanted downey before the gazillions “iron man” raked in.

And why announce who you want to play the part before they’ve signed? What happens if Downey Jr hates the script? Then we’ll all know that the script is terrible and that whoever is cast was not Ratner’s first choice for the role. Duh!

Stay the hell away from RDJ, Ratner! He’s finally getting the recognition he deserves and he doesn’t need people like you dragging him back down. I’m sure your talents would be better served in Rush Hour 4.

  • L.T.

If I were RDJr I would not comment as well and hopefully it will go away quietly! Brett Ratner has to surround himself with talent so that the movie directs itself!

  • Joy

No, no, no, no, no! Run, Robert, run away from “Bratner” FAST! This could be the WORST POSSIBLE MOVE for Downey right now. Brett Ratner makes crappy movies, and I pray to God that Downey doesn’t blow this wonderful second chance that he’s been given. RDJ is a great actor who deserves to be in A List projects from now on, not on inane “films” by the super idiot of Hollywood, who thinks he’s all that.
Ugh! Say NO to the Bratner, Robert!

  • deb

NOOOO! Don’t ruin the second chance RDJ gets in this industry with your “wonderful, amazing talent” in making films.
And yeah, ITA, there was no way he thought of RDJ before all that money came in from Iron Man.

I have to be suspect of a director who is putting Robert’s name out there before he even reads the script . It sound like he is really trying to prop up his own project by attaching the most wanted actor right now name to this .If Downey Jr doesn’t accept this role Ratner will look like the biggest idiot in the industry.

While I’m in total awe of Downey Jr’s acting skills, I’m a little hesitant to think of him as Hef, atleast from a physical standpoint. I don’t think they look much alike, at all. My first choice would have been Hugh Jackman.

  • Bret Ratner is an awful director. Please don’t do a film with him.

  • pinky

I sure hope that RDJ doesn’t sign anything with Ratner. His films are overblown crap. The role might be a good one but I’d hold off for another director. And I’d also think that Hef would know better to work with Ratner.

Eh, am I the only one who doesn’t think Ratner is completely disposable as a director? I liked the first two Rush Hour films (RH3 was mediocre), enjoyed X3 (I disliked the Singer directed X1 and Superman Returns more) and Prison Break, which he executive produces. I just find it ironic that after all the crap critics get for panning some popcorn films from most moviegoers, Ratner is the kind of director that caters to the crowd (along with Michael Bay and Paul Anderson). Maybe Ratner does deserve some flack but not total admonishment. That category should be exclusive to Uwe Boll, who’s produced nothing but atrocity after atrocity for cinemas worldwide.
As for this, I can agree Ratner’s motives are suspect on hiring RDJ right after Iron Man and that it’s a bad idea to name check actors on a project before they read the script. That’s just taking a risky and unnecessary gamble.

  • Rose Tyler

He would make an excellent Hugh Hefner but if Brett Ratner is directing then it’ll be dumbed down crap. It’s a shame because Hef has a very interesting life and is a great character. I really hope the movie gets made with RDJ and a different director.

  • Pamela

Noooooo. I’m with you Rose Tyler: Yes, a biopic of Hefner could be interesting but not, especially not, if it’s directed by Brett Ratner, who has little real talent I am amazed/disappointed he even gets to make anything at all.

  • Thomas Parker

“We wanted him before Iron Man so we were ahead of the curve.”
    Whatever Ratner, you doushe

  • chippy

Robt. Downey Jr. is so good at what he does…he could probably portray Hefner almost better than Hefner portrays himself.

  • JAM

I don’t necessarily think Ratner is an overall bad director, but I will say that this movie will be riding more on Downey’s talent as an acomplished actor than Rater’s directing. So it should be good.

  • Rush Hour 1 only works becuase of the chemistry between Chris Tucker and Jackie Chan. It has nothing to do with Ratner directing. Bret Ratner may have some decent movies, but what makes them decent has nothing to do with him. Hundreds of people are working on a film and its there talent that masks Ratners shortcomings as a director.

Yeah, it was Listen 2 This. I liked those, but then they started not being exclusively about music, (they started to include video games & comic books too) http://hardwood-floor.emenace.com/brucehar62/14.html how to install laminate flooring undefined
