Maybe there can be only two? Summit Entertainment announced today that it will produce a re-imagined version of 1986’s sci-fi cult classic Highlander. Art Marcum and Matt Holloway, the screenwriters behind Iron Man, will write the script, which according to Summit, “will expand beyond the original film’s core mythology of immortals battling amongst us, hunting each other down for the mysterious prize.” (One source tells EW.com that Highlander doesn’t preclude Marcum and Holloway from working on an Iron Man sequel, but no deal is in place yet for that project.) No actor or director is yet attached, but Peter Davis, one of the original producers of the first Highlander, is also on board to produce the new version. One can only hope for a cameo from the original Highlander, Christopher Lambert.

ppl need to leave highlander alone!!!!!!! what is this, a game to see how many times you can RUIN it again????? geez ppl do something ORIGINAL,earn your paychecks and e.leave the original ALONE!!!!!!
I think they should just remake Highlander 2. Nothing could be worse than that.
And please Hollywood, have an original thought.
as a fan of highlander the series and the original movie…PLEASE DON’T MAKE IT! if they want to make something outta Highlander universe, make a new series about The Watchers or Methos instead!
I thought Highlander III was a remake of Highlander I. Seriously, it’s the same plot plus magic.
Actually, this film cries out for a remake, if only because the original “Highlander” simply isn’t that great a movie. It has a great plot and a couple of great performances (particularly Clancy Brown), but the fight scenes and special effects aren’t that great, even by 1980s standards.
PLEASE!!! DO NOT MAKE THIS MOVIE. THE T.V.SHOW WAS OK. HOWEVER, THE TWO MOVIES AFTER THE ORIGINAL NEVER SHOULD HAVE BEEN MADE. PLEASE DO NOT DO IT!!! THE MUSIC WAS ONE OF THE BEST PARTS AND YOU CANT REMAKE THAT. LETS FACE IT…ITS ABOUT TRYING TO MAKE MONEY…HEY,PRODUCERS… YOU WONT. TRY RE-RELEASING THE ORIGINAL…
Are you KIDDING? Highlander without Clancy Brown or a ROCKIN’ Queen soundtrack? I don’t think so. If they want to expand on the tv show or the sequels, that’s fine. But a remake? “Who waaaannts to live foreveeeeer?”
The last movie The Source was unsuccessful! Hated it! Actors were great, but not the whole story!

If any of the Highlander movies are remade, Highlander 2 and the new one, The Source, are the ones that need it bad! Highlander 2 and its idea that immortals were from another planet is really screwed up (and they admit this in the documentary because they did not realize what a cult hit it was and would have not killed Ramirez and also ended it differently). The Source was absolutely horrible and should be scrapped from further production. Please remake that one and do not kill Dawson this time! Also, if you DO go through with remaking the original, please just remaster Queen’s music. That is one of the best elements of the movie. I am actually nervous about this remake. DON”T SCREW IT UP!!!
Queen, Connery, that weird look in Lambert’s eyes. A creative, one-of-a-kind movie that doesn’t need a remake. Use your imagination and come up with another original idea.
I’m a tad worried about this…the first Highlander is so great because it is so weird and wonderful (and laughable). I’m interested in seeing what they do with the remake.
My suggestions: Keep the Queen soundtrack, hire Connery to do the voice over–or Jim Byrnes if Connery won’t do it, and perhaps have a couple of MINOR nods to the TV show–a Watcher here & there, even if its just a guy with a camera and wrist tattoo.
Here’s hoping they don’t mess it up.
If they’re going to redo the Highlander movie they need to focus on more character development while adding a gritty realism to the story. I suggest placing the story in a post apocalyptic near future like that in “the postman” as it would devoid the setting of cheesy sci-fi elements while allowing an explanation for a high concentration of immortals. Also the raw natural setting would compliment the survivalist nature of life as an immortal.
I have to agree with everyone, you can’t duplicate the original. Everyone played their parts exceptionaly well.
If they are going to remake it then what they should do is to give us, the fans, the premise of the movie and let us tell you what we think will work and what won’t work. That is what should have been done from H2 on. The fans know what we want to see and what we don’t want to see.
Here are a few questions….Have the writers, Art Marcum and Matt Holloway, even seen the original? Do they know about the quickenings, and what the reasoning behind them is? Here’s the big one…..Do they know the rules? (ie – Holy Ground)
My suggestion to the writers is this, before they even start writing the script they should sit down and watch H1 and H: The Series. If they follow the rules set forth by those two things then the movie will turn out just fine.

I love the idea of these movies, about their loneliness, their abilities and everything else. I think the 1st movie was good as well as Endgame. I loved the series too. The problem are the movie sequels 2 and 3. They are just bad. I won´t say anything about “The Source” because inappropiate language is forbidden. Anyway, I think these are a must in the remake:
- Queen music, specially who wants to live forever and princes of the universe.
- Better sword fighting scenes (all the movies were more and less mediocre in this matter, Endgame was ok).
- More development of the characters.
I guess it is going to be difficult, I am a fan of highlander but I always thought that it could be made better.
One thing that I would like is to have a movie with a better coherence between its sequels and TV series. I don´t mean a big summary from everything but a better script that considers all.
Just please, don´t make things like this:
Connor Macleod is the last inmortal after killing Kurgan. Aliens come to earth and become inmortals as well so Connor Macleod is no longer the last inmortal. Ramirez comes back to life after being decapitated. Dawson tells Duncan Macleod that Connor killed Kurgan.
WHAAAAAT??? There can be only one, but with that plot there will never be only one. Aliens? oh please… think something better. Anyway, if there is always some alien coming to earth, the only way to be the only one is to go to that planet and destroy it. This sounds good for a different movie, not HIGHLANDER. Inmortals decapitated should stay dead (so don´t decapitate inmortals that are important that fast).
Wasn´t Connor the last Inmortal after killing Kurgan, before the arrival of the aliens? So, why is Duncan Macleod alive? This incoherence is just because the movies and series weren´t done with the expectation of a sequel. Please, make a good movie. I beg you.
