John Cusack is in negotiations to star in director Roland Emmerich’s (10,000 B.C., The Day After Tomorrow) new disaster movie 2012 for Sony Pictures. The title refers to the year the world is supposed to end after a global cataclysm. Cusack is negotiating to play Jackson Curtis, a divorced dad who alternates between writing and driving a limo. Emmerich wrote the script with his 10,000 B.C. co-writer Harald Kloser, and the duo will also produce the film.

Sony acquired the project in a high-stakes bidding war and is aiming for a summer 2009 release. The price tag for the special-effects laden movie could reach $200 million.

Absolute nonsense. Never give a book or movie a date as a title! Roland’s last film flopped horribly, and Day After Tomorrow was one of the worst films ever made. Who keeps giving this guy money to make movies?

    What was John Cusack thinking?

Is he going through some sort of middle-aged weird thing?

The Day After Tommorow was a fantastic movie you muppet.

    what a hack

  • James Baker

In this case, calling the movie ‘2012′ is pretty much inevitable, since the movie is about what happens on or around December 21, 2012, the date that the Mahan calender predicted that the Earth would end. What else could they call it? “The Day After Some Day Four Years From Now”?
And whoever is funding him probably hopes that Emmerich will make another “Independence Day”

No anonomous, The Day After Tomorrow was pathetic. All CGI and no substance. Same with his other movies.
Forgettable. Give the project to someone who can handle it.

I’m reading the Whitley Strieber novel of the same name now. Pretty interesting.

  • Armando

First of all Whitley Stribers book focuses on the the bad things that may occur on that day its more of a doomsday book. Where as Rollands film may be more family friendly. Secondly the Mayan calendar doesn’t predict the end of earth but “the end of the earth as we know it” meaning a time of great changes will come to pass not end.

I thought 10,000 b.c. did good, I personally thought it was a good film.
