CBS cancels 'Shark,' 'Moonlight'

Categories: TV Biz

Pink slips were handed out today to CBS dramas Shark and Moonlight. Shark, which starred James Woods as a prosecutor, was averaging 10.3 million viewers, while Moonlight, the sexy vampire series, only attracted 7.5 million this season. CBS will officially announce its schedule Wednesday in New York City.

Angel got cancelled again. Now that’s just rude.

Our office is so sad at the thoughts of no more moonlight. But lets hope the rumors are true that FOX,who will become my new favorite network, will be adding Mick to their lineup. WAY TO GO FOX shame on CBS!

If CBS does cancel Moonlight, I will not watch CBS any longer. I was a die-hard NBC fan until Moonlight. I gave CBS a chance and found some great shows, Moonlight being the best- However, if Moonlight goes- so do I.
I hope Fox picks Moonlight up- I’ll watch it wherever it goes!~

I don’t watch TV, I read, but when I found out about Moonlight coming on I couldn’t wait. I have watched and LOVED every episode. Now it is not being renewed. This is why I don’t watch TV. A show that is actually good comes on and the network doesn’t keep it. The writers strike doesn’t excuse the network for not picking the show up for another season.

I just had a feeling about Moonlight. I’m tired of liking shows only to watch them get axed. I didn’t bother to watch this one.

Who started the FOX rumor – how true is it. I have Direct TV and do not get CBS but fell in love with Moonlight online. I called probably 60 times screaming to get CBS forget it now. Really could careless about CBS. I finally got FOX though so hears hoping the rumor is VERY TRUE

Moonlight was eh, but Shark was losing steam.

  • susu005

Loved Moonlight, Shark was losing steam. Oh well 2 more slots open on my DVR.. I will finish out Moonlight this week. Of course if Alex and Jason show up on any new shows I will watch.

  • Matt

Oh so mad! Moonlight was AWESOME!

  • anne

I cannot believe that CBS cancelled Moonlight! It was just taking off when the strike happened. It so deserved a better chance at finding an audience than it got. Hope it finds another home.

Wow. I am saddened to hear that CBS axed MOONLIGHT when the finale airs this this Friday night. And after Jason and Alex did the extra pimpin’ at the New York Comic Con last month…SHAME ON CBS for letting such an interesting show go!! Maybe they’ll figure it out and renew the show for a mid season replacement like they did with JERICHO, only it won’t suck, and we’ll find out what happens with the Coraline storyline! Who started this rumor that FOX may pick MOONLIGHT up? How legit is it??

  • Monique

What is CBS problem!! They have great shows like Jericho and Moonlight and then BAM they cancel them. Didn’t they learn their lesson! I am never watching CBS again. They have no respect for their show’s fans.I’m extremely disappointed

  • Snarf

    Moonlight snuffed out? Booooooooooooooo! Pffffffffffffft!!!!

  • Shy Vy

What am I going to do without my weekly dose of sexy Mick? Just when it was starting to get interesting! I hope Alex gets another job soon because the camera loves him (and so do I!).

  • A Moonlight Fan

CBS…you su@K and appear to be missing some important brain functioning as well. Moonlight was a different take on a vampire show and my entire family enjoyed it. One more viewer you have lost to your ego!!! Good luck to the cast & crew in finding gainful employment now.

  • bluehorizon

I loved Moonlight. Let’s hope it finds a new home. CBS sucks!!!

  • sam

CBS is incredibly foolish to let Moonlight go. They have two of the sexiest men on TV (and both great actors, too) and they don’t even promote the show! Moonlight consistently won its time slot and would have been a huge hit for them if they had just known how to treat it. I really hope that another network picks it up. And it is NOT Angel, really nothing like it at all.

  • Donna

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!! I usually only watch REALITY TV shows that was until MOONLIGHT!!!
    I love that show!!
BOO, I can’t believe they canceled the show.

  • Westray Knight

No offense, the cancellation of Shark is BY FAR the bigger loss here, James Woods was incredible in that role, and it was CBS’s biggest show last season outside of the CSI franchise, if it had stayed in its Thursday Night Spot it would live on for a long time to come

  • Caren Lee

Moonlight was created by Ron Koslow, who created Beauty and the Beast, which is my favorite show of all time. I saw a lot of similarities between the two shows. I really liked this show, I hope CBS changes their minds or some other network picks it up. I think the show was finally getting comfortable and knew where it was going, and then they canceled it. 7.5 million viewers during this time of the writer’s strike when people just didn’t watch tv is not bad. And I wonder, with the 7.5 million viewers – does that count Tivo, cable and satellite DVR, online, and Nelson? When will these executives learn to look at the big picture and embrace new technology? Bring back Moonlight!

  • yessika

Moonlight was ok but Shark rocked big time.
    CBS is nuts!

  • Dutch

Didn’t watch either of these shows but I find it extremely odd that CBS cancels shows averaging 10.3M and 7.5M, yet keeps a sack of **** show like Big Brother on the air THREE TIMES A WEEK! It’s viewership was 25% LESS than Moonlight’s! WTF! I guess having the hostess be the boss’ wife is what CBS bases its programming decisions on. What a sham!

I’m p!ssed! I LOVE Moonlight! It was one of my new favorites…I’ve got a thing for Vamps.
Having said that, I think us Moonlight fans should send CBS containers of fake “Blood”! Hehehe…that would be hilarious!

  • Snsetblaze

My husband and I saw the two stars of Moonlight at the NY Comic con and found them charming. We had watched the pilot and decided initially not to watch it because the pilot did not pull us but after seeing the two we decided to give it another chance. We never got the chance. I get the impression it is a show you have to watch in order because of the story arcs so we were going to get the DVD.

  • Snsetblaze

While the boss’ wife being the host of the show probably contributed to CBS keeping Big Brother, CBS also kept BB because reality shows are cheaper to produce than scripted drama.

  • Michael Clayton

BRING BACK SHARK! JAMES WOODS RULES! SO MUCH SO they named a Regional High School after him in Family Guy!

  • Raven_Moon

Nooo! CBS always cancels my shows. “Joan of Arcadia” & “Moonlight” were some of my faves. I’m surprised “How I Met Your Mother” has lasted as long as it has. I hope some TV miracle happens. Why are quality shows rarely given a chance to grow. I’m sure it would have brought in more fans in with season 2 & DVD sales. Alas.

  • Jill

I was so pleased earlier today to hear that Reaper got renewed, only to be plummeted into a black abyss at the news of Moonlight’s cancellation. My tolerance for the big networks’ illogical cat and mouse games with their shows – a tolerance eroded annually since Freaks & Geeks was cancelled – has finally snapped irrevocably.

  • sparky

First Jericho, now both Shark AND Moonlight. What do the viewers of network tv have to do to try to convince the MORONIC IMBECILES at CBS to continue to show good if not excellent television viewing? Now we will have to sit through more of the CBS boss’s wife on BB or some other lame survivor wannabe? I don’t think so. I am already a scfi network viewer and if they pickup Jericho and Fox picks up Moonlight I will have no further reason to watch CBS, the pandering network.
