'Idol' alum Elliott Yamin roots for Archuleta

Apr 10, 2008, 07:08 AM | by Shirley Halperin

Categories: American Idol, Music, Music Biz, Television

Add a former American Idol top three finalist to the fast-growing list of Archie devotees. Season 5's Elliott Yamin told EW.com at last night's ASCAP Pop Music Awards that he's rooting for young David Archuleta to take the crown this year. "It would be really cool to see a young kid like him win," he said. "I really love his songs, and musically, he's very talented. He plays the guitar, piano... it's nice to see [Idol] bringing out the creative sides of those kids." As for the other male contenders? "No one's really impressed me this season," Yamin maintains. "David Cook is okay, Michael Johns is alright, but it's anybody's game at this point."

As for himself, though still mourning the recent loss of his mother, Yamin was in good spirits walking the red carpet at Hollywood's Kodak theater, relishing his time out of the recording studio. The velvety-voiced singer is hard at work on his second album, which he hopes to have out by the fall, and has recruited Janet Jackson's man Jermaine Dupri to lend a hand with production. "I'm looking forward to seeing what he adds," Yamin says. Also on his wish list: D'Angelo. "I've always wanted to work with him, and I've said it in interviews lots of times. Still, we've never heard from him."

Why does everyone talk about David Archuleta as if he is so young, by Idol standards? He's 17--Jordin Sparks was 17 last year when she won. It just seems like an odd thing for so many people to be so, "wowed" over. David isn't even the only Idol contestant to prove that he can sing with the emotion of a 40-year old when still a teenager--Paris Bennett is another great example of being old for her age.

David in Houston Thu, Apr 10, 2008 at 09:10 AM EST

I think he's astonishing...and he has been the first idol since Fantasia who has inspired me to vote. What a voice and heart! As a fellow singer, I appreciate his natural talent and his ability to interpret a lyric. He's not afraid to "buy in" and deliver. I think he's amazing...and he'll get multiple votes from me every week. Good luck,
David!

me Thu, Apr 10, 2008 at 09:14 AM EST

Maybe cause he looks and acts about 12 yrs old.

Aristides P. Caringal Thu, Apr 10, 2008 at 09:56 AM EST

He looks refreshing - no tattoo, no funky and dirty looking hair, has an enigmatic smile, and a powerhouse of a voice.

devo Thu, Apr 10, 2008 at 09:58 AM EST

David A's whole "awe shucks" thing doesn't ring true to me. I agree that he has a good voice, but I cannot see him coming out with anything I would want to buy.

Yamin Fan Thu, Apr 10, 2008 at 10:04 AM EST

Thrilled to hear Elliot Yamin is working on another album. His first one is the only Idol recording I've ever bought. (The second will definitely be Archuleta's.)

Matt Thu, Apr 10, 2008 at 10:05 AM EST

David A. Snore. No thanks.

CHARLYN JORDAN Thu, Apr 10, 2008 at 10:24 AM EST

DAVID COOK'S PERFORMANCES OF "ELEANOR RIGBY, AND BILLIE JEAN WERE UNFORGETTABLE AND AWESOME. HIS ORIGINALITY ON THE SONGS HE SINGS MAKES HIM SHINE. MICHAEL JOHNS COMING IN A CLOSE SECOND IN MY OPINION.

Kate Thu, Apr 10, 2008 at 10:42 AM EST

I've come to terms with the fact that David Archuleta is going to win this show, because that's exactly the purpose he was manufactured in the archu-D2 factory for. I don't think he'll have a very prolific or successful career after the show. People like Brooke White, David Cook, and Jason Castro, however, I think will do very well in a post-Idol world.

WildKAT Thu, Apr 10, 2008 at 10:54 AM EST

Elliott: I am sorry for the loss of your beloved mother. I hope that your grief eases in time. As for your support of David Archuleta, you as a balladeer would naturally gravitate toward another balladeer. That doesn't mean that ALL of us do. I find David weak as a performer, flubs his lyrics, is wobbly voiced, off pitch at times, limp sounding and a one trick pony. He fails dismally on upbeat songs or those which require vocal elasticity. You, Elliott happen to be a good singer, but you too are a person who doesn't do well on up tempo songs. I respect you for what you can do, but personally, I am a Josh Groban type fan and Josh can sing anything, anytime and anywhere. He has the "it" quality, that neither you nor David Archuleta have. This season my vote goes to David Cook or Carly Smithson, both who are stellar singers with amazing range. Bless you anyway Elliott, you are a kind and wonderful person.

Bizzie Lizzie Thu, Apr 10, 2008 at 11:07 AM EST

Elliot is right on the money. David A is extremely talented and he WILL sell lot's of CD's. Refreshing to see a 17 year old with no bad, nasty attitude, who actually has manners and class. A rarity in this day and age....UNFORTUNATELY!! .

Hank Thu, Apr 10, 2008 at 11:07 AM EST

Condolences to Elliot on the loss of your mother, Z'L'.

Robin Thu, Apr 10, 2008 at 11:32 AM EST

I agree completely with Aristides...no tattoos, no weird hair, nothing at all like that. He's just himself singing his heart out. What a voice, what a heart! Amazing. He has been my #1 choice from Day 1 and I truly hope he wins. Pure talent, totally true and amazing talent. Good luck to him.

elliott is the MAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Mischa Thu, Apr 10, 2008 at 11:51 AM EST

Maybe becasue Jordin is huge and doesn't look like she's only 17?

sarah j Thu, Apr 10, 2008 at 11:58 AM EST

Elliot is still the best male vocalist ever on Idol... :)

standupgal Thu, Apr 10, 2008 at 12:37 PM EST

elliott is my #1 idol, ever...but i must disagree with him on his choice for this years winner. david arch is a good singer, but, like elliott, he lacks the "wow" factor in his overall performance.

Huh? Thu, Apr 10, 2008 at 12:51 PM EST

When has Josh Groban ever sung an uptempo song?

maxwell19596 Thu, Apr 10, 2008 at 01:30 PM EST

While young David is very talented I think David Cook really has a chance to win this thing. It's going to be a fun knock down drag out singing fight to the finish. Personally I would buy a David Cook rocked out album, way before I would buy an Archeletta album of disneyfied ballads.

bettylee Thu, Apr 10, 2008 at 02:44 PM EST

Mr.Elliott, I love your voice as I have love for David A's. He's such a talented young guy. I'm your fan and had bought your record. Love it so much!!!

JNF Thu, Apr 10, 2008 at 02:49 PM EST

This is the first year I am not voting..am disillusioned..think David Archletta is boring and too young with no pizazz..and it all goes to the ones who speed dial 600 times..should be like other shows were you are limited to calls or votes online.

Manda Thu, Apr 10, 2008 at 03:12 PM EST

Elliot is SOO awesome!! He is right about David A. He's AWESOME!! HE will sell tons!! People that like to dis David just knows that he is so talented to beat their favorite! The contestants are all AWESOME this season but dissing another contestant is just low people!! GO DAVID A!!!!!!!

Sara Thu, Apr 10, 2008 at 03:54 PM EST

Elliot's awesome!! I loved his last album and I'm sure I'll love this one. Don't let Dupri change your amazing, soulful sound Elliot...

Heidi Thu, Apr 10, 2008 at 03:58 PM EST

Ouch.. that kinda stings, having my favorite idol of ALL TIME supporting my least fave of this season.. and calling my favorite just 'alright'. Why don't you agree with me Elliott I thought we were soul mates!!!

Idolfan Thu, Apr 10, 2008 at 04:02 PM EST

David A has an amazing voice, with an angelic smile and tons of charisma. I love the kid and will vote like there's no tomorrow to ensure he can continue to make the music that touches my heart. I HEART YOU DAVID!

vivienne Thu, Apr 10, 2008 at 04:04 PM EST

I am not a member of the David 'A' fan club. His a nice enough Kid but not Star material. He sounds more like a Choir Boy than an Idol and I really think when you compare him to Milly Cyrus last night it really showed he just doesn't have the Star quality. I really hope one of the may great talents on this year's Show comes through and that the Public doesn't make yet another mistake. Vivienne

TRUTHFUL Thu, Apr 10, 2008 at 04:20 PM EST

Though I think all the contestants are and did very well this year Elliot is right about David A. He is an all around great musician. He has an incredible voice and an extraordinary personality which seems so genuine for a kid with his talent these days. He will definitely do well if he wins. I myself would absoluely buy his songs, since I already do on itunes. His voice is beautiful and his songs sound great. I like David C sometimes, but most of the times he sounds like he's just growling. I bought one of his songs too but was very disapointed afterwards because he wasn't very clear and he sounded like he was singing with marbles in his mouth.Jason C is OK but with the faces he makes while singing he sounds and looks like he's really struggling to sing. There's no adversity with him, Brooke and Michael. You know exactly what they're going to sound like even before they sing. And Carly just tries to hard. I trully believe also if your going to be an AMERICAN IDOL you should be American

Thu, Apr 10, 2008 at 05:11 PM EST

To Adam: the reason everyone comments on how young David is is because he looks like he is 12. He is way too sappy for me - who the heck would buy his albums if he wins? And please don't say "housewives" - I am a mom of 3 and he is NOT my thing.

Holly Thu, Apr 10, 2008 at 05:34 PM EST

Elliott was my favorite idol from season 5. Love, love, love his cd, and look forward to his new one. Have to disagree with his pick though. David seems like a sweet kid and sings okay, but he bores me. He seems too rehearsed. His father should back off, and let him be. Poor kid.

Brittney Thu, Apr 10, 2008 at 05:34 PM EST

I like that my fav idol ever likes David A. David is pure vocal talent & sweet & humble guy. Much like Elliot is. David Cook & Micheal Johns are pretty good, but when it comes down to it, I pick David A as my personal pick to win hands down.

joe Thu, Apr 10, 2008 at 06:00 PM EST

david a is gonna win

Lorie Thu, Apr 10, 2008 at 06:12 PM EST

It cracks me up when people think that David's "aww shucks" attitude is an act. I am a non-Mormon living in Utah. David A. has the same attitude of a lot of people that I know here. Mormons are probably the nicest people around. He is genuine - I have no doubt about it. And by the way, he is an amazing singer so he is going to win.

mimi123 Thu, Apr 10, 2008 at 07:13 PM EST

Yamin you're my fav idol ever!! you're amazing. So are you DA.

RBlues Thu, Apr 10, 2008 at 07:21 PM EST

How can my favorite "Idol" of all time be SO wrong here? Maybe he's just been in a really melancholy mood with his mom being sick and then passing away that David's sappy music comforts him. For the record, I have a feeling that he will win due to the tween vote.

Christine Thu, Apr 10, 2008 at 07:32 PM EST

David Archuleta is such a talent and I am certain that in the upcoming weeks he will bring it to the stage. He has an undeniable connection with the audience and he is a vocal masterclass for being only 17. Not only will he sell records, but he will go down as a legend in my book. I hope that many can look up to his refreshing personality, humility, and free-spirited will. I love all the other idols too, but I think that all of this hatred towards David needs to stop. He doesn't deserve any of it, and neither does any other contestant. I admire all of the contestants--they all deserve to be on that stage!

Jennifer Thu, Apr 10, 2008 at 07:44 PM EST

While David is very charismatic, good looking, likeable personality, you really can't deny his talent. He's a great singer. People love h

Cathy Thu, Apr 10, 2008 at 08:26 PM EST

Anyone who pigeonholes Elliott as a balladeer has clearly NOT seen him in concert. My oh my!

As far as favorites, I'm going to have to disagree with Elliott (though I adore him). While I like David A and don't doubt he'll win (as indicated by the screeming tweenies each week) I think David Cook has much more potential to be a successful, relevant recording artist right now.

sarah's mom Thu, Apr 10, 2008 at 08:37 PM EST

David A. has the whole package. Looks, personality, and of course, the voice. He is only going to get better as he gets older. I will vote my heart out every week to make sure this happens for him. By the way, this mother of 3 will buy his cd's and his concert tickets. Maybe I'll take my kids too, they also like him.

ROSE Thu, Apr 10, 2008 at 10:25 PM EST

I think that if David Archuleta was to win, he would move on w/ a Josh Groban-type career....& that's not a bad thing whatsoever.

David has the looks, charm, & musical instruments!

DAVID A. ALL THE WAY!!! :)

Hmmm Thu, Apr 10, 2008 at 10:34 PM EST

David A.'s act gets old (although I think he's sincere). While Simon scolded an equally talented --- (who was the backup singer last year?), he doesn't seem to want to call David A. out on it. Anytime the audience starts to squeal for him and he gets all "aw, gee", it makes me wanna puke!

Jackie Fri, Apr 11, 2008 at 12:28 AM EST

Elliot is way better than David A! Glad to hear he's working on a second album... the first was fantastic :)

terri Fri, Apr 11, 2008 at 01:15 AM EST

I agree David A has a good voice, but I wouldn't buy it, too goody goody for me, I will take David Cook anyday!!

ARCHULETA 4 idol
otherwise no one is as deserving as him!!!!

Pete Fri, Apr 11, 2008 at 04:04 PM EST

Adam, it's because this is the only time Idol has ever had a young male contestant on the show talented enough to win the competition. That's why it's exiting, David's actually an idol first.

bob TB Fri, Apr 11, 2008 at 07:15 PM EST

pete you may be right about that he is talented enough to win the compititon but is he really the youngest male contestant?

Wendy Fri, Apr 11, 2008 at 07:35 PM EST

Elliott was my all-time favorite! I loved every song he did on AI, I bought his CD and love it, and I cried when I found his mother died.

However, I can't help but disagree with him when it comes to David Archuletta. He seems to be a nice kid, but I just don't care for his singing.

Michael Johns was my fav. this year and I DID vote for him; and I'm pretty bummed out!!!!!!

Wendy Fri, Apr 11, 2008 at 07:53 PM EST

Sorry, I left the word "out" out on my last post.

I noticed someone commented wondering why everyone thinks David A. seems so/too young when Jordin SP? Sparks was the same age when she won. IMHO, she is a better performer by far; and she had far more maturity to handle stress than he does. Some people just mature faster than others. Girls usually grow faster than boys; physically and in the mentally.

David-soldier. Fri, Apr 11, 2008 at 08:00 PM EST

Elliot is quite right.
David is the most talented on the
show...
His voice is wonderful..
he is awesome, besides his great talent he is handsome and cute as well. Go David, for me he is the best singer...

rogers Fri, Apr 11, 2008 at 08:04 PM EST

So much for buying any more of Elliott's recordings....... Heh, just kidding.....sort of....

mscisluv Fri, Apr 11, 2008 at 08:35 PM EST

I have to second (or third, etc) those who say point out that Jordin Sparks was also 17 when she won AI - David's the same age, so it wouldn't be so incredible that he as a young "kid" could win. He just seems much younger and less mature socially.

Oh, and to the poster who mentioned hte "Archu-D2 factory" - HILARIOUS

mscisluv Fri, Apr 11, 2008 at 08:36 PM EST

Oh and the time stamps on here haven't been adjusted for daylight savings time - someone fix that!

Roger Swanton Fri, Apr 11, 2008 at 10:39 PM EST

I agree that Archie is a talented young guy, but let's do this a different way: Who would all of you consider to be the best talent this year if you didn't know what they all looked like, and how old they were. My guess is that the results would be much different than they are now. Idol is a popularity contest, built primarily around looks and charisma. The music takes a backseat to this. Funny how music is not really about music, anymore. MTV ruined music. It's all about flash now- all show, and no go.

Hiet from Vietnam Fri, Apr 11, 2008 at 11:52 PM EST

I think David A. should get less shy if he wants to be an idol. I like his face. His voice is so amazing. i have never had enough of listening to his singigng so faf.

Sat, Apr 12, 2008 at 12:23 AM EST

I think Archuleta would be a great addition to Disney's HIGH SCHOOL MUSICAL franchise. I loved his performance of Imagine, and ANGELS was an inspired song choice this week. (I've replayed Robbie Williams' version many times.) But otherwise, David's musical tastes and style leave me bored. I'll never forget how he butchered the Beatles or get over his total unawareness of classic and alternative rock. I've never even considered voting for him or buying his music. I'm surprised by Elliot's endorsement, because I was really impressed last year with Elliot's itunes celebrity playlist.

This season I really enjoy the musical tastes and styles of Jason Castro, David Cook, Michael Johns and Brooke White. I've downloaded and voted for them several times and I look forward to what they'll do each week.

I don't think any of the Idols are very versatile this year, with the exception of Carly. They all sound the same week after week. So, it's now about voting for the person who sings the style you like!

MOZUG Sat, Apr 12, 2008 at 07:56 AM EST

DAVID A WILL PROBABLY WIN BUT I AM DEFINATELY A DAVID COOK FAN AND WILL BUY HIS CD. ELLIOT I BOUGHT HIS FIRST CD AND NOT THAT GREAT I GUESS I PREFER ROCKERS AND I LIKED ELLIOT ON AI BUT DEFINATELY PREFERED CHRIS D THAT YEAR AND THE WINNER WAS TAYLOR WHO???????? WHO VOTES FOR THAT??????

Trish Rosenthall Sat, Apr 12, 2008 at 12:06 PM EST

Elliott, so very very sorry to read about your loss. What a wonderful mum you had. I know you know she's smiling down on you from heaven.

Re David A., I, too, think he is a fantastic talent, but I personally wish he waited until he was a few years older to have auditioned for Idol. I've bought a couple of the studio versions of his performances for my 10-year-old, who is completely smitten with him, and they are terrific, but on the stage he seems very much like a precocious child prodigy and not a mature adult performer. Still, if he wins it all, I won't be surprised.

I'm a little surprised that Elliott finds David C. just "okay." David C. is, for me personally, the best singer on Idol since Chris Daughtry. He has an amazing instrument and comes across as a seasoned but unjaded performer. His studio recordings (which I bought for myself!) are absolutely AMAZING, especially Little Sparrow (which was an original arrangement).

roseann Sat, Apr 12, 2008 at 12:22 PM EST

DAVID HAS A SINCERETY TO HIM THAT WE RARELY SEE IN PEOPLE. HE COMES OFF GENUINLY A SWEET KID. HE IS AN AMAZING AND TALENTED PERFORMER AND HAS CAPTURED PEOPLE'S HEARTS BECAUSE OF THE HE MAKES US FEEL. GREAT KID!

James Sat, Apr 12, 2008 at 12:27 PM EST

Baby Archuleta looks and acts much younger than his actual age. He almost seems to be in a different generation than every other contestant. Seeing him on stage is like watching a 7th grade talent show, not a young man performing with his peers. He's old enough to go to war in 8 months -- can you actually picture him in Iraq with a rifle on his shoulder?

sam Sat, Apr 12, 2008 at 02:15 PM EST

I don't get the fascination with Archuletta. Sure, he's a cute kid with a good voice who can occasionally give a heartfelt performance in his sweet, non-threatening manner. But he's nowhere near as talented as Cook, Johns, Smithson or White, IMO the rightful Final 4. Yeah, I get that the producers are pimping him because they want to cash in on the Miley Cyrus demographic....and it's obvious he has indeed hooked the teenybopper OMGILUVHIM! crowd. But why does anyone else care? As for past balladeers, Yamin was great, but if you're watching AI2 REWIND, the difference between a developing voice like Archuletta & someone who knocks it outta the ballpark every single time like Aiken is very clear. I'm really more into alternative rock, but there's no denying that the guy with the most clear, powerful pipes and the best range on that show ever was Aiken. I feel the same about Underwood on the female side, but Clarkson and Smithson are right up there.

sherra Sat, Apr 12, 2008 at 02:41 PM EST

you are hot david even though im 7 yrs younger than you

you mmmmmmmmmmmm...........

To "Truthful" unless you are Native American Indian than none of us are really "American". Should their only be "American" judges? The show would seriously crumble without the man we love to hate: Simon Cowell

susan Sat, Apr 12, 2008 at 05:10 PM EST

David is definitly awsume he is only 17teen and he is very talented and if u say any dfferent it's because you are just jealous of his natural talent.

bob TB Sat, Apr 12, 2008 at 08:15 PM EST

just because david A is 17 everyone hates him why if he was 27 looked the same acted the same and sang the same would you all be talking like this about him no i dont think so you all just hate him because he is young and that is absoulutely no reason to!!!! but i am still a kristy lee fan! GO KRISTY LEE!!!!!!!!!!!

ciniowa Sun, Apr 13, 2008 at 07:22 AM EST

I loved Elliott on AI5, still do. He will always be MY idol. Knowing Elliott, as I sort of do, I doubt he has had much time to really observe each show this year...so, to me, he kind of just pulled a name out of his hat and came up with D.A. If he had more time to think about it, he probably would have said Chikeze first (if he wouldn't have been voted off so early..too early IMO) Thats my story and I am sticking to it. I cannot wait for Elliott's new album, due out next fall!

kenny Sun, Apr 13, 2008 at 02:51 PM EST

Carly, Syesha, David A. and Brooke are the only real singers in the competition. DAVE COOK can not sing....scream, yes, but not sing. He is also comes off as cocky and his voice sounds just like every other current alternative rocker out there today. JASON CASTRO is the most boring contestant ever and completely void of personality. KRISTY LEE COOK is just a one-note country singer.

bob TB Sun, Apr 13, 2008 at 03:53 PM EST

kristy lee is not a one note singer! didnt you hear her on God Bless The U.S.A she went on hight notes low notes every thing and i should no its on my ipod GO KRISTY LEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Cindi Sun, Apr 13, 2008 at 05:54 PM EST

How can you say David Cook screams all of his songs? He has proven he can sing almost anything and do it well. Can't say the same for the other David. Every song he sings sounds the same. He is very nasally and between lines he sucks the paint off the wall to get his next breath. It is very loud and he needs to control it. So obviously I disagree with Elliot's opinion. Sadly I missed that year of Idol when Chris Daughtry should have won. Missed last year too but apparently that was no great loss. Having said all that, David Cook FTW!!!

gail Mon, Apr 14, 2008 at 09:13 AM EST

I agree with Elliot --David Archuleta is an amazing talent--not even full grown yet--he has the whole package and I believe is genuine. He makes me excited to tune into American Idol each week.

baobabs727 Mon, Apr 14, 2008 at 02:04 PM EST

Hey rockers, hey Mr. Sleazy! Good lookin' out! David Archuleta is gonna win, so just accept it. I realize that all of your taste is in your mouths, but that's hardly an excuse for beeing so ignorant....

starbuck Tue, Apr 15, 2008 at 07:16 AM EST

Oh boy! He's not as talented as the others? You've got to be joking! LOL.
Anyway, stage presence means so much. Archie doesn't have it, sorry. It's where he loses. Notwithstanding, he's not losing overall. He'll probably win this thing and i'm okay with that. Yup, even though he's not my cup of tea, i can't deny his talent. And actually i want him to win. People say he's one trick pony. If he's one trick pony, i wonder if how can you probably say Cook isn't one trick pony? OK, Archie sings mostly ballads and Cook takes any song and turns it to rock. What do we call that, sorry? (and dont get me wrong. i'm a die hard cookie fan)
I'm so happy that Elliot's rooting for him! Gotta love them both!
Oh and by the way, his personality helps Archie too. He's such a cute, humble, happy kid. Refreshing.

Syesha clearly has the strongest melodic voice of the group. She can hit the highs without straining as others do. What I don't get is why the judges and the fans have acted so "cool" towards her. If you download any of the her "full versions" on iTunes, she really has the vocals to be a future star. The judges did the same thing last year with Sabrina Sloan. There was one talented young woman who was ousted early and should have been in the Top 10. Kristie Lee and Brooke will never come close to the vocal range and delivery that Syesha possesses. Yet the judges like Brooke a lot and are slowly warming up to Kristie Lee. It's a shame real potential (Syesha) gets lost somewhere between the judges' weekly contradictions and obnoxious comments. It only serves to impact the outcome of those contestants who actually have talent!

vivienne:
How dare you compare David Archuleta to SLUT in the making miley cyrus? She's another britney spears. While David is considered as a genius savant. I'm betting you're 12, still obsessed with hannah montana crap. Miley cyrus will NEVER be remembered 5 years from now while david will be selling platinum records and winning grammy's. I wish Elliot the best he was my favorite from season 5.

I think that David Archuletta David Cook and Carly Smithson are going to be in the bottom three but im in love with David Archuletta he sang so good last night i almost melted

bobbi Wed, Apr 16, 2008 at 03:55 PM EST

David A is just fabulous!!!! This is the first time I have ever watched AI all the way and wanted to vote...It is to see David A. What a talented young man and so very humble...so nice to see...he deserves to win the show.

Wed, Apr 16, 2008 at 06:23 PM EST

he awesome lol

jackie D Wed, Apr 16, 2008 at 06:24 PM EST

Elliot..sorry for your unhappiness now..I want to say I hope david A,,,wins beacuseI liked him from the start..he is an american Idol even if he doesn" get the title at his age and talent..I do like jason also...but david for #1...

Jabo Jones Thu, Apr 17, 2008 at 03:02 AM EST

I just don't get it. I thought grunge was a thing of the past.. What's wrong with David A being a nice clean cut young man? David C's wannabe grunge don't cut it. The guy can't sing he yells and that huge mouth is scary looking.

Sharon Schwans Thu, Apr 17, 2008 at 08:56 AM EST

I have to disagree with Elliott-as much as I like him and his music. I think David A. is too bubblegum for us over-40 crowd. I think David Cook will win and has a wider appeal. Good luck to all of them, though!

kasey colman Thu, Apr 17, 2008 at 09:22 AM EST

i think David A has much knowledge to be in lead of this idol contest because he is a lot better than David C, don't you thin?

Carol Marsden Thu, Apr 17, 2008 at 10:23 AM EST

It is my humble opinion that the final three will be David A., David C., and Carley -
Can't stomach Brook's inability to handle adversity, & my vote goes to David A. I think he is genuine.

Kelly Thu, Apr 17, 2008 at 01:04 PM EST

Honestly, what kind of record could David A ever put out, and why do the judges never focus on that. The tweenies, who think he is cute wont by an album or pop love or inspirational songs. Other then being cute and an ability to sing he has no audience. He will be the next Clay Aiken. Spamalot here he comes!!

Joe Thu, Apr 17, 2008 at 08:08 PM EST

David Cook is the best of all the idols. He will sell records. Reminds me of Daughtry. The problem that Daughtry had on the show was huge overconfidence. And he had sung some extremely heavy metal songs that were a turn-off. Cook is picking the right songs and making them his own. A winner in my book by far!

Joe Thu, Apr 17, 2008 at 08:12 PM EST

Yamin sounds a bit pompus with his opinion of this years' Idols! He was and ugly homely sad looking performer during his season. My friend and I referred to him as the "homeless guy" throughout the season.

jogin Thu, Apr 17, 2008 at 08:50 PM EST

This wonder boy is destined for superstardom and all his competitors will do everything they got to take the crown of American Idols. Viewers at all ages loves this boy. Since he sang "Imagine" john lennon says he's the one.

jogin,

John Lennon has been dead (unfortunately) for a long time. So I don't think he's commented on David A's performance of "Imagine".

yes me Sun, Apr 20, 2008 at 05:20 PM EST

People know David is going to win this hands down and NOT because of any so called favoritism. Archie sings circles around the other contestants and have from the very beginning. Elliott is an exceptional talent who recognizes that in Archie. Eat it, haters and watch Archie take the prize!

yes me Sun, Apr 20, 2008 at 05:27 PM EST

Cook's fans are pathetic losers who are doing all they can to try and smear Archie. Nice try, but it won't work. Cook doesn't stand a chance of beating Archie in the finale so just deal. David A is going to suprise all the idiots saying that he won't sell to anyone but the Disney crowd. Isn't that the same exact thing they said about Jordin last season? Who has two hit singles, a gold debut album, and an opening slot for Alicia friggin' Keys? Disney Shmisney. David A will be a great pop/R&B artist like Jordin as that's the kind of music he likes and will be doing. Suck it, haters.

sYESha Mon, Apr 21, 2008 at 04:54 PM EST

I think David A will take the whole thing. It's what he's been groomed for his whole life. But who REALLY wants this more...David A or his pageant-dad? Syesha SHOULD be the winner, she has the BEST voice.

Jennifer Hulcoop Wed, Apr 23, 2008 at 04:39 AM EST

David "A". We love you all the way from South Africa. Gorgeous, talented, sensitive and SENSATIONAL!

Wish we could vote!

carol Wed, Apr 23, 2008 at 10:01 AM EST

I still think Elliot should have won instead of Taylor...who???
Anyway, I hope the final this year is between the two Davids...should be interesting! Both are fabulous. Also, can't wait to see Brooke go - she is way out of her league.

Carol Wed, Apr 23, 2008 at 10:03 AM EST

P.S. I also like Syesha...amazing voice and poise. Don't know why the judges are so hard on her. She's fantastic. My prediction for the final three: The two Davids and Syesha.

Maryann Taylor Sun, Apr 27, 2008 at 05:35 AM EST

I have been listening all week to David Archuleta's music on a CD download my friend made for me. The more I listen, the more I love his music. I will be first in line to buy his first album! (I am a 57 year old grandma and his music appeals to every age.)

Lee Wed, Apr 30, 2008 at 12:22 AM EST

Since Elliott is a fav of David A.,it's great the feeling is mutual. As a musician, I give the edge to the younger David over Cook, who's 8 yrs. older. I'd like to see DA playing piano & guitar in the coming weeks to remind viewers of his abilities...and sing some more upbeat songs!! if possible. It seems like the performers are kind of staying w/ their niche as the stakes get higher every week.

Saul nunez Thu, May 1, 2008 at 04:40 PM EST

all of those guys are great, but David A. is a winner.

Fri, May 2, 2008 at 01:19 AM EST

he will definitely win.. great to see even elliot wants david archuleta to win... and now.. natasha bedingfield wants him to win... he is simply amazing.. i love the ARchuelat

andreaaaa Sat, May 3, 2008 at 10:28 AM EST

THAT KID ANNOYS ME SO MUCH -.-

Jensen Sun, May 4, 2008 at 09:13 PM EST

So sorry Elliott, your Mother was and is a dear soul, as are you a gentle soul. Personally, I believe you are right about David Archuleta. He was, and still is a prodigy. Jordan is very talented, but most psychs will tell you there is a big difference between a 17yo boy and a 17yr mature girl. David is still growing taller and his voice is stll changing, the puberty thing, you know.

Wonder what DC sounded like at 16-17. For being a Junior in high school, being a pubescent innocent, this kid is going places for a long time.

Suzanne Sun, May 4, 2008 at 11:14 PM EST

My vote is for Archuleta all the way!

I listen to mostly punk rock and metal and that little guy has got me buying MARIAH CAREY songs for god's sake! I think that shows true talent.. if he can make me crossover and actually enjoy listening to ballads he has got to be doing something right!

He is pure talent, with half the vocal chords as all the other contestants and he can only go up from here. He has plenty of time to come out of his shell a little bit and become and even greater performer!
