Gossipgirl_l How old school of The CW! The network announced today that fans will have to turn on their TVs if they want to watch the season's final five episodes of Gossip Girl. The freshman drama, which returns to the schedule on April 21, will not be available for streaming via the network website (though the episodes will be up for sale via iTunes).

"Gossip Girl is an extremely important show for The CW and we feel it can be a signature breakout for its return," says Paul McGuire, a CW spokesman. "This is an experiment for us."

In addition to its regular Mondays at 8 p.m. time slot, Gossip Girl repeats will continue to air on Sundays at 6 p.m. The net says it will also bolster its online Gossip Girl content over the next month by streaming interviews with Gossip executive producer Josh Schwartz and scenes from future story arcs. The first 12 episodes of drama are still available for streaming on CWTV.com

I hate this! I work nights so I've been depending on watching the shows I miss over the internet. I may stop watching because I hate missing what's going on and then trying to figure it while watching a new one.

i do AGREE THAT SUCKS THAT THEY DONT HAVE IT ONTHEIR WEB SITE AND I MISED IT LAST MONDAY AND I REALY WANTED TO SEE IT ....

Well it was just like a regular corporation they only teased us online to get us hooked on gossip girl now we have to actually subscribe to the CW channel to watch the show. I knew it was too good to be true...same thing for abcfamily's Greek...no more online episodes so now i keep missing them. Shows how we live in a corporate world.

Erin Mon, May 5, 2008 at 11:26 PM EST

What the heck. I can't always be home to watch it. I have to work. I was counting on the onlin episodes. This is the worst idea.

Sze Thu, Apr 24, 2008 at 11:47 PM EST

It really makes me mad that CW does not have the last episode (in full) on their website. I have never missed an episode untill monday and now I can't watch it. It really sucks for those of us that ALWAYS watch....and miss one episode!

holly Thu, Apr 24, 2008 at 12:37 PM EST

This is a STUPID idea.. i dont catch the cw and the only reason i started even watching gossip girl was because i started to watch it online. How are the people who dont have the cw going to watch the show?

DS9Sisko Fri, Apr 18, 2008 at 10:28 AM EST

The only thing "hilarious" here are some of the overheated responses! LOL....Imagine, the NERVE of the CW telling fans to actually watch the show on TELEVISION! The outrage! Nevermind that first run television viewings are what's most important to the network and advertisers, therefore ensuring its ratings. Nevermind that the more eyeballs that see the show during broadcast is what actually keeps it on the air. Bitorrent people might as well send an email to to the CW that says, "Cancel the shows I watch via bitorrent now."

For all the whiners, it's not the worst thing in the world -- even in this day and age of online streaming, video iPods and crappy Zunes -- to sacrifice an hour (or DVR time) to watch a show that YOU say is important to you in order to boost its numbers and keep it on the air. But, maybe I'm wrong. Maybe you really don't like Gossip Girl, which is wickedly entertaining, as much as you claim.

It's called BitTorrent. Suck it, CW.

Rose Tyler Fri, Apr 18, 2008 at 07:05 AM EST

You see this causes a problem because Monday nights are also How I Met Your Mother and Bones. Not too mention Greek. I guess I'll just have to catch the reruns on Sunday(fingers crossed). I do love me some Gossip Girl.

RyRy Thu, Apr 17, 2008 at 09:49 PM EST

AJ, i don't think you should be peddling out advise. Any idiot (other than yourself, of course) knows that ABC has the best streaming of its original content in less than 24hours on their website... hulu sucks... the full second season of heroes isnt on there yet - enough said. sit down and sh*t up.

AJ Thu, Apr 17, 2008 at 07:04 PM EST

Horrible, horrible idea! ABC / CBS / CW need to just get their shows on Hulu already and be done with it. Make it EASIER for fans & viewers to find, watch, & enjoy these shows. Talk about taking "one step forward, 2 steps back"....this move by CW is 20 steps back!

SDA333 Thu, Apr 17, 2008 at 06:52 PM EST

Looks like anothe bone-headed decision by the CW. First, they cancel "Veronica Mars", see their network ratings drop 22%, and then limit the availability of the only show they have that has a chance of becoming a hit. Man, talk about crash and burn.....

Blair Bass Thu, Apr 17, 2008 at 05:34 PM EST

Sorry that didn't make sense...

Gossip Girl is by far teh most watched show on CW streaming video (all though all shows available) because it makes up MORE THAN 50% of the views on that site...

Blair Bass Thu, Apr 17, 2008 at 05:22 PM EST

I guess you gotta do what you do...especially when more than 50% of the views of all teh shows of CW watched on Gossip Girl (new article Nylon Magazine) and Gossip Girl has already got over 6 million hits to watch it..
