'X-Files' creator Chris Carter wants to believe in a third movie featuring Mulder and Scully

Apr 18, 2008, 05:41 PM | by Clark Collis

Categories: Movie Biz, New York Comic Con, On the Scene

Xfiles_l The truth is out there...as a trilogy? X-Files creator Chris Carter has revealed that he has ambitions to make at least one more movie detailing the adventures of Mulder and Scully. "We would like to make another film," Carter told EW.com on Friday, prior to his appearance at this year's New York Comic Con. "We're not under the illusion that it's a given; we've got to perform with [this summer's X-Files: I Want to Believe] in order to give it another day."

Another installment would make three films in the franchise, following 1998's The X-Files and the forthcoming, Carter-directed, I Want to Believe, which debuts in theaters July 25 and is a stand alone monster-of-the-week-type venture. But Carter suggested that a future movie might re-engage with the original TV show's overarching alien-invasion plot. Doing so could be timely given that, according to X-Files mythology, the final stage of said invasion is due to start in December 2012. "Well, we didn't think that one up," Carter said. "That is actually part of the literature. It is a Mayan date. But I think we'd like to revisit that whole storyline."

alot of people are saying that they liked the x files movie one better but personally i loved both of them.i think that if chris carter was to make a third movie(i hope he does)then i think alot more people would be giving it better reviews if it was more about alien abductions, most people i know like the x files movie one because it was staying with the whole idea of what most of the x files series were about, which was aliens and people being abducted and UFO sightings.i still loved the x files movie two but those are some of the reason people have been saying they didnt like the x files movie two aswell as the third.anyway i just want there to be an x files movie three whether its about aliens or not.and by the way the x files movie two did make alot of money,i mean it must have with the amount of people that accually went ot see it and i bet there was alot of them otherwise all you people wouldnt beable to sit there and hate it.I LOVE THE X FILES.i hope there is an x files movie 3.x

Eh, if they can't afford a third movie or TV show I would heavily encourage chris carter to finish the series in entire a graphical novel or a book. The movie almost definately made money, but the bench mark is almost assuredly higher than simply having to MAKE money to get another movie made, it needs to be a decent pay off otherwise it just isn't sufficent motive to get the studios to approve. However, the biggest reason the movie flopped from a personal perspective is that it was widely known even before the release that this was going to be a monster of the week movie. The MOTW eps were always good, but the mythar eps always had them beat by about 40 times in the quality and intrigue that they inspired. I don't understand how chris carter and the production staff made such a dumb move in giving the green light to what ammounts to a two hour standard episode. This show has a fanbase that is still alive and well, but we ALL want to see how it ends and have the final questions answere

Rich Tue, Nov 18, 2008 at 03:19 AM EST

This Movie Was Flop.... X2 Made over a 120 million us $ this one made 60 world wide???!!!! if that!!!!and i doubt it made hardly any money for fox this movie had 6 years to get something good every one wanted it to be good but it wasnt so it only had the die hard xfiles fans and it crushed the truth the TRUTH IS NOT OUT THERE!

X FILES FAN Mon, Nov 17, 2008 at 02:06 PM EST

i have prety much seen every episode and movie of the x files so i have been on some sites taking x files quizes and surprise surprise i got 100%.i have also been looking up tuns of facts(most of them i already knew)like the episode piper maru was named after gillian andersons real daughter and that chris carter is pipers godfather, just tuns of stuff like that.I LOVE THE X FILES(STILL)lol.well i realy enjoyed the x files movie 1+2 so i hope there is a third.plz plz plz let there be an x files movie 3.

Rational Opinion Sun, Nov 16, 2008 at 05:59 PM EST

Eh? Why is everyone saying it was a flop? Regardless of how you feel about the film (my wife and I both liked it), according to the sales numbers I've seen, it looks like the film cost $30-35 million, and grossed over $66 million, including foreign box office totals. So, unless promotions and marketing cost as much as the film itself (yeah, like how? I saw, maybe, four ads on television prior to opening day) then it's a certainty that Fox made money.

Mon, Nov 10, 2008 at 04:20 AM EST

I would really like to see a Third Movie. I think it should be about the invasion in 2012, and I think it should bring closure to as much as is x-files possible. Financially speaking I think there would be a much bigger audience and more repeaters if this were the case. I also think that so many fans would be thrilled to return to what originally drew everyone in from the beginning: mulder/scully together searching for the truth...and saving the world in the meantime!

X FILES FAN Thu, Nov 6, 2008 at 03:16 PM EST

i dont really care if the movie comes to the big screens,i just want a third movie!STILL LOVIN THE X FILES!

Rich Wed, Nov 5, 2008 at 03:53 AM EST

Hey from what i have heard from the net a couple of net works have offered to post the 3rd movie on tv... but as for a 3rd movie on the big screens dont count on it this movie absolutly flopped even though u loved it it was one of the best versions of the xfiles im lieing it was prob one of the worst versions of the xfiles i have seen bad scrip acting effects idk it was horrible mulder used to make every thing feel like it mattered he only had about 5 minutes in this movie that reminded me of old times alot of true fans found this movie to be a discrace to the name of the xfiles but still saying i would love them to put every thing together and give us are moneys worth

X FILES FAN Sun, Oct 26, 2008 at 02:42 PM EST

I LOVE The X-Files so much!!!!! I loved I Want to Believe and I loved the first movie and I love the show so much. I really really hope that Chris Carter will continue on with this amazing series with a third movie about an alien invasion on December 22, 2012. If there's anyone that can create a magnificent story about an alien invasion occurring in December 2012, Chris Carter can. I would love to see more Mulder and Scully and I think they should bring back Doggett and Reyes, or at least say what happened to them.

So Human of earth what would u say if ur fav season and worst fav? i need to relock the episode list for seasons 1-4 but my least favs were 8-9 sept nine had a really good series final episode so i would say 8 was the worst

human of earth Sat, Sep 13, 2008 at 01:30 AM EST

I have never seen an x file until two months ago. Busy working too much, I guess. I had heard of them off and on when they were regular but just rented season one two months ago and have religiously bought every season....i like the dynamic of the relationship between scully and mulder, the way they work together, together, THEY keep me watching, not just the x files....it's not the same when they're not on together.

Rich Tue, Sep 9, 2008 at 06:57 PM EST

the xfiles is gonna not make even 30 million thats sad =( so i doubt we will get an other movie

Marie Sun, Aug 10, 2008 at 02:28 PM EST

Yes! We need a 3rd movie for closure on the whole aliens thing! I would love to have the feel of Mulder and Scully working a case together again, but as far as them getting married/getting william back...no, no, no! I love them being in love but I would hate to see it get all cute...that's just not right. And getting rid of the baby was the best thing they could have done. They can't be worried about their kid's report cards and such, they have much bigger things to worry about.

Aly Sun, Aug 10, 2008 at 02:21 PM EST

Both of the X-Files movies were excellent! I don't understand anything about you people that hate them, and I definitely don't understand how you call yourselves true fans. You think you know more about what should be done with a movie than Chris Carter? I know we all wanted a conspiracy-packed, alien related film but just because it wasn't doesn't make it rubbish. It was great, and hopefully because of it we will get to see another installment involving the ongoing story we have all know and love. I would sell my soul for just one more Mulder and Scully story. And if you wouldn't, and you thought the last two movies were bad...stop seeing them and definitely stop trying to discourage others from seeing them.

Henk van Rooijen Sun, Aug 10, 2008 at 12:14 PM EST

A few days ago i went to see "i want to believe" in my hometown in the Netherlands, being a lifelong Cris Carter fan my hope for a great movie were maybe a bit high, but oh my god, this is the biggest rubbish i have ever seen from everything Cris Carter ever did untill now. I wonder if no one involved in this project could see how bad it really is, there is almost no link to any of the X-files storylines, i was waiting for x-ibit to pimp Mulders ride (was it the 'x' he had to be in this movie?, i have everything Cris has done on dvd but im doubting if this last film will become part of this collection. All in all a waste of money and effort (my opinion), if u dont mind throwing some of ure money away, go and see it!

i just saw the 2nd x-files movie and i loved it but there wer issues that i feel wern't covered i would love to see a third instalment that would do more with the way the show ended about the invaison in 2012 please chris give us true x-files fans what we want and show everyone the true genius that u are

Rich Wed, Aug 6, 2008 at 11:37 PM EST

Angie ur full of ur self sorry to say both movies were very bad these last 2 movies are comparable to the worst xfiles ever made even though the movie didnt go well i still liked just having a taste of the xfiles one last time =(

Angie Wed, Aug 6, 2008 at 10:36 PM EST

I loved the X Files Series. Mulder and Scully are hands down my favorite couple of all time. I was so excited for this movie, and I really liked it. I loved that Mulder and Scully were together, but I agree the first movie was a lot better. But I am dying for a third one. I think we need closure. Even on the series, the final episode was great, but I left it feeling like Mulder still didn't win. He has to win. Chris has to make a third movie. At least for the die hard fans. Here's what we need...............Mulder and Scully to be married, find there son and be reunited, Alien colonization to happen, and Mulder and Scully need to be back full force on the X files and they need to save the world. LET MULDER WIN THE FINAL BATTLE!!! He never won.....................please give us this closure!!! Also Scully should pop out another miracle baby as well!!!! Whatever happens, it has been an amazing run with the X files!! Thanks Chris!

Felix Wed, Aug 6, 2008 at 08:08 PM EST

I think Carter is retarded. This last movie was just an extra long filler episode from season 5 without any commercials. Now he wants to tie up some lose ends after making this turd? Maybe he realized what a piece of crap it was

Tommy Tue, Aug 5, 2008 at 01:19 AM EST

If they don't do a third movie on the big screen. Fox should do a made for TV movie or mini-Series to show what the alien invasion will be like.
"Carter pick up the phone and make it happen!"

Rich Mon, Aug 4, 2008 at 02:05 AM EST

i went to go see the movie agian an the only time i found my self feeling like it was old times was when Skully told mulder about finding traces of animal tranquilizer mulder played it like he always would and those 5 minutes were very good on a dull movie

Rani Fri, Aug 1, 2008 at 11:30 PM EST

I just saw the X-File movie and I would love to say that it was amazing, but it was just good. I had anticipated this movie so much that I have been re-watching the last nine years of X-File episodes over the last several months. I agree that there should be another movie, but soon, instead of waiting until 2012. The movie could just take place in 2012. Maybe they could locate Mulder/Scully's son and the alien invasion could begin. I loved every moment of the new movie with the scences with Anderson and Duchovny. I did however expect to see more with Skinner's character. It seemed he was in the movie for about ten minutes. Please make a third movie Chris Carter. The X-File fans need more of Mulder and Scully.

Rich Fri, Aug 1, 2008 at 12:53 PM EST

Teri not to be rude but have u not read what people posted both of the xfiles movies that were put out sucked so bad this last movie probley killed 60percent of x-files fans ty chris =(

Teri Beveridge Fri, Aug 1, 2008 at 09:22 AM EST

I think chris carter should take bringing out a 3rd movie seriously because the x files movies 1 and 2 are fantastic plus alot of people find the x files very interesting and would love to see a 3rd movie happening. The x files are so far the best show i have ever seen and i would love to see a 3rd movie soon.

Ted Bundy Fri, Aug 1, 2008 at 06:15 AM EST

Sweet mercy! Out of the selection of comments here, it's impossible to see the coherent ones. It's hard to imagine if many the posters here have the ability to hold a pen, other than for chewing it. The people who work on the X-Files read as well as watch television. Maybe some of you should give that a try. Then you wouldn't have to post about how sanctimonious you think I'm being regarding your poor self-presentation. I'm sure that you're all very bright but your posts appear to have been defecated across the screen. Just because you think something doesn't mean that you have to write it. Perhaps I should take my own advice from the previous sentence, as this will fall on deaf ears anyway. Dude.

As a tru xfiles fan the movie wasnt that good as u seen i have typed alot and i would love a movie split into parts one comeing out every year and it needs to be scary needs to have alot of seat clenching twists xfiles deserves better years and carter didnt even leave it off knowing an other movie would come out it sucked there wont be a 3rd cuz i doubt gillian of david will want to do an other and if they do deside to do it let david duchovny help wright also cuz the episodes he wrote were all very good and he is the xfiles =) i my self hated almost every episode he wasnt in he is the xfiles cuz he wants to belive! i think there should be a movie in say 2010 were the alliens start thier plans and mulder scully find out and things get thrown in the path like always and they cant do nothing about it part one >.<

Kinny Fri, Aug 1, 2008 at 01:04 AM EST

I think Chris Charter should make it a 2 to 3 part movie about the invasion, kind of like Lord of the rings and star wars, Because on what the smoking man said about it, it sounds to big to have it all in one movie. Plus I think The X-Files is to good of a story to have it all end in just one movie.

John Thu, Jul 31, 2008 at 11:37 PM EST

I'm not good at this so i'll just say what i want to say. Chris Charter if your reading this please make that third X-Files movie in 2012 I am dyeing to see when the aliens began to Colonize the planet. And what Mulder and Scully plan to do to stop them.

kelly davis Thu, Jul 31, 2008 at 10:33 PM EST

as a die hard fan of x files ,i still watch it every nite on sci-fi and tnt when they decide to show it! i was going to like the movie no matter what but was at the same time disappointed at carters direction at generateing it towards the newbies instead of the loyalist who loved show for which it was meant to be, solving unexplained paranormal, weird, bizzare and gross cases complete with the sexual tension and there one driving storyline on the alien conspiracy! so if chris carter was reading this i would say to get back to what worked for the next movie that is what we the true fans want to see,and dont be dissapointed when this movie struggles, you simply gambled and lost.

Josie Wed, Jul 30, 2008 at 10:38 PM EST

I was a little disappointed with the movie but I love the x-files team so much that I am going to see the movie again so they will make thier money back. I want a third. The series and the first movie did set a very high standard for this movie to live up to. Everybody go see it again!!! :)

Wed, Jul 30, 2008 at 03:49 PM EST

I ought to clarify, though, this does not mean I have lost my faith in the x-files team. Even the best filmmakers turn out a bad one once in a while. It's just a shame that this one has so much riding on it. If (and when) they make a third film and get back into real x-files territory, we all know it will be such a better movie. All I can say is that I hope to goodness the studio gives Carter that chance to redeem himself; I have faith that he will if given the opportunity. And to Carter himself I want to say, in the event of a third film, please be content to help write it, and hand the directing reins back to Rob Bowman.

Aaron Wed, Jul 30, 2008 at 03:37 PM EST

The tv series was an amazing, quality show, as was the first x-files movie. After all of that, I went to this film expecting a lot more than I got. It had some good parts, but it felt like Chris Carter and Frank Spotnitz never really made up their minds whether to aim this movie toward long-time fans or newcomers, and ended up not giving either group what they wanted. Second, it told its story on a really small scale compared to the first film, making it seem more an episode of the tv series than a movie. Third, aside from the priest's visions, there was absolutely nothing paranormal in it, nor did it move the overall story of the x-files ahead at all. I know it was meant to be a stand-alone story, but Mulder and Scully seem to have completely forgotten that there is an alien invasion coming in just over four years (and the aliens inside the FBI have apparently forgotten about Mulder as well.) Finally, Chris Carter may be the man with the ideas, but Bowman is a much better director.

CGL Wed, Jul 30, 2008 at 08:30 AM EST

I'm sure the X-files has at least 10 million fans in the USA, and if each of these fans watched to movie just once each, the x-files 2 will make its budget. Whether they should make a 3rd should depend on if CC and co can come up with a script that's mind-blowingly good, otherwise it will be painful for fans who keep hoping for a movie that will hit the mark. Actually it would be nice if the series never ended. I love the little easter egg at the end of the movie! Made me grin from ear to ear.

Rich Mon, Jul 28, 2008 at 08:34 PM EST

Grace ur so very wrong this wasnt a scary episode there prob 100 more scary ones outa the what is it like 261 episodes the xfiles had had? and it wasnt bad but not what i exspected 2-2.5 out five stars = and avg movie and the ending did suck woulda been muccccchhhh better if mulder got reassigned to the xfiles!

dan Mon, Jul 28, 2008 at 06:55 PM EST

When i first heard that the movie was going to have a 'Monster of the Week' type script i was a little hesitant about the movie. i personally wasn't as much a fan of these episodes as i was the mythology episodes. This is not to say that i didn't enjoy any of the 'Monster of the Week' episodes, but i loved the arc of the mythology episodes. The biggest concern i had about the movie though was that it was going to turn into yet another typical hollywood horror movie. i was thankfully very wrong about that, but i felt there really was very little suspense in the movie. in the end i felt that the movie was just another mediocre episode. However, it was nice to see that Mulder and Scully's relationship had continued to grow.

i would have to disagree with Grace though in that this movie really wasn't very graphic. There were episodes of the show that were far more gruesome than the movie.

Overall, i would give the movie a 2 1/2 stars out of 4. A little better than average, but not much.

Grace Mon, Jul 28, 2008 at 01:26 PM EST

I have been searching for a website to write to Chris Carter, X Files creator. There does not seem to be one in existance for the general public.
I have followed Mulder and Scully faithfully since the Pilot episode.
This movie was a total waste of my time and money. Time being a precious
commodity.
When I read this was to be a stand alone movie, that was our first clue.
But, I decided to give it a chance.
This film should have been rated R. I was totally disgusted by the story line and the graphic scenes.
And to Aaron, no I will not be seeing this again. I am sorry and disgusted that I even saw it once, and I will not recommend it to anyone.
This was an insult to the intelligence of any true fan of the series.

Rich Mon, Jul 28, 2008 at 02:02 AM EST

What Really needs to happen is make a kick butt episode and show it on tv to draw intrest and then 6 months later put out a movie that is GOOD suspencefull!!! xfiles style so it can draw more fans there is no reason why the xfile cant put out a movie every year and make it only like an hour long instead Lol i would go see them!

PhantomBPR Mon, Jul 28, 2008 at 01:21 AM EST

A third movie really needs to be made if any justice will be done to the X files plot line.

As many are saying, it was not a bad movie, but it wasn't what we expected after all these years.

It would have been better to leave the series on a cliff hanger, than to leave it where it is right now, just making you feel empty. I felt more of a satisfaction when the series ended.

A third movie must be made. It will have to tie up all the plot holes, answer all questions. And, in short, conclude the X files plot.

Should be released on Christmas day 2012.

Bugaboo Sun, Jul 27, 2008 at 10:54 AM EST

Even though this second movie didn't do so well, the budget was only 30 million. Maybe we'll still get a 3rd one.

Rich Sun, Jul 27, 2008 at 02:09 AM EST

I was disappointed with this one all though it wasnt bad i was exspecting the best ever.... oh well they have this great plot to go on.... goverment cospieries and allain invasion all dates point to 2012 and they didnt even set it inprogress???? wow Lol oh well it is close to one of the worser episodes i saw sept this was a movie!

Tim Sat, Jul 26, 2008 at 11:06 PM EST

I hope they make a third movie!
2012 is the end!

kay Sat, Jul 26, 2008 at 10:45 PM EST

I want them to make a 3rd movie SO BAD. They should have waited a bit longer to release considering Dark Knight and the fact that it was Heath Ledger's last movie. If the Dark Knight weren't out I am sure X-Files would be doing better. Please don't give up! Make another one! I want to see the alien invasion!!

Mon, Jul 21, 2008 at 01:05 PM EST

Called 2008........ duh?

Roe Thu, Jul 17, 2008 at 05:24 PM EST

Good god, why does it appear half of us X-Files fans don't even know how to spell, punctuate, or otherwise write? It's pathetic.

Rich Wed, Jul 16, 2008 at 05:50 PM EST

One Last Thing OMG MULDER GOT SO OLD AND SKULLY GOT SO HOT haha wierd how things change huh? and i also think that when the smoking man went it killed the plot of the x-files and things got messed up bad move but guess wrong and it kills ur series other than that x-files rocked 1-6 seasons were worth buying other 3 eh not so much but screw it were x-files nuts right gogogogogogogogogo xD

Rich Wed, Jul 16, 2008 at 05:45 PM EST

Aaron Wed, Jul 16, 2008 at 02:30 PM EST

Here's an idea: This movie will probably do pretty well at the theatres, but to make sure it makes enough money for the studio to let them do a third, all you x-philes out there should go to it like two or three times.

Clowncar Sat, Jul 12, 2008 at 06:50 PM EST

I am so psyched...especially because I just finished watching all 9 seasons on DVD. I too loved the stand alone episodes...the scarier the better. However I would like to see a third movie that hopefully explains some unanswered questions...before 2012.

BGC Buyer Wed, Jul 2, 2008 at 10:21 AM EST

I hope that this movie will turn out like the "Tooms" episodes and the "Pusher" episodes rather than something like "The Great Mutato". Although I really loved the plot episodes, the monster-of-the-week episodes were sometimes even better. Ideally, I would love for them to make even more than three movies. It would be smart of them to leave us hanging in the third one so everyone would come back for future movies. Oh, try to figure out what my alias means, shouldn't be too hard.

Nik n Amber Sun, Jun 29, 2008 at 03:56 PM EST

I would like to think that living in the age of "shadow governments", the American public needs to be reminded about what "truths" are still out there. Carter and Spotnitz are hands-down, the most brilliant men out there in the industry. I couldn't imagine a more archaic cast advocating free verse and expression of ideas.

AlanP Wed, Jun 25, 2008 at 04:57 PM EST

2012 is a long wait. 2010 would be a better time, although it's still a long wait for fans...

drellan Sun, Jun 22, 2008 at 09:56 PM EST

I felt even the seasons after Duchovny left as Mulder were really good. Was it my imagination or did Gillian Anderson's acting step it up several notches as her drive to find Mulder, and later to protect her baby drove her character?

My dream would be a three part move sequence would take place for the x-files, all dealing with the alien invasion, as 2012 approaches. The first of the three being 2010, 2011, and then 2012. This way they could capitalize on their extensive plot line.

Xloverin Wed, Apr 23, 2008 at 04:16 PM EST

Angel: I guess you will see him there *winks*
Rev.St.Huck: Thank God, opinions like yours are in the minority.
I loved, love and will love the x-files and I'm definitely going to see that movie.

m Tue, Apr 22, 2008 at 05:51 PM EST

can't wait for hulk and iron man

Roy L Tue, Apr 22, 2008 at 03:07 PM EST

This gets me soooo pumped! A third X-Files movie would be awesome. Looking forward to July 25.

Rev.St.Huck Tue, Apr 22, 2008 at 01:17 PM EST

I loved this show, except for the last couple seasons. But it's time to move on. The horse is more than dead, it's decayed and rotted, the bloated carcus is now nothing but bones. Do we really need to come along and beat it a little more? Leave it alone, let it rest in peace and dignity instead of desecrating its memory with some desperate attempt to "get it back."

Angel Tue, Apr 22, 2008 at 01:10 AM EST

I'm excited about the new movie, but my question is this, Where's Skinner? I"ll be so disappointed if he isn't in the movie. :(

Luke Mon, Apr 21, 2008 at 10:04 PM EST

I'd say that Lost in my fav. show on Tv right now since Arrested Development was canceled. I I love it and haven't missed an episode. But the X-files is My Fav. show of all time (tied with arrested development). I didn't miss an episode of The X-files in it's 9 year run. It's hard to say lost is better because it's only into it's 4th season. It's a very creative show, but still very young. The thing I think the X-Files has on lost is the amount of stories It could cover. It wasn't limited to anything. Aliens, Ghosts, Bugs, Boats, Monsters, Conspiracy Theory, and inbred families. Until this season of lost, you were stuck on a island where not much could happen. I love Lost but It doesn't come close to being as good as the X-Files.

Shawn Mon, Apr 21, 2008 at 08:50 PM EST

I'll be wearing the X-Files shirt that I haven't worn in years to this film. The truth is out there, and that truth happens to be that this film will probably rake in enough cash to justify a third film. At the very least, I hope that it's better than the first. My brother and I liked it, but weren't thrilled with the "extended tv episode" feel.

Cassie Mon, Apr 21, 2008 at 03:41 PM EST

Steve Foerster is absolutely right. It's been driving me crazy for years that the series never felt finished. As brutal as it would be, the 3rd movie should come out 12/2012 hehe.

Steve Foerster Mon, Apr 21, 2008 at 12:41 PM EST

A third movie that wraps up the invasion storyline and fits with the 2012 date would be the best way to cap off one of the great story arcs of our time.

cosmic Mon, Apr 21, 2008 at 08:45 AM EST

I agree with Melissa. Comparing Xfiles with Lost is like apples and oranges. Xfiles is way ahead as it came on air in 1993 and Lost only came on air 11 years later. It was original for its time and nothing comes close to the XFiles. Even the LOST producers took inspiration from XFiles and paid homage to Chris Carter. You can re watch episodes of XFIles but you can't do that with Lost.
Anyhow, XFiles made over $1 Billion for Fox Network and it was not going to let it finish in Season 5 or 6 as Chris Carter wanted. So, long live XFILES through seasons 9 + 2 movies. Bring on the movie.....

Pam Mon, Apr 21, 2008 at 07:58 AM EST

Melissa Sat, Apr 19, 2008 at 10:53 AM EST

"Shaun, I respectfully disagree with you. You're comparing apples to oranges." - Absolutely! The genre is even different.

allthings80 Sun, Apr 20, 2008 at 10:50 PM EST

OMG. PLEASE. YES.

Liz Sun, Apr 20, 2008 at 09:18 PM EST

Bring it on Carter. I would love a 3rd X-files movies and I am definitely looking forward to seeing I Want to Believe in July. I have been a loyal fan of the show since the beginning and I stuck with it till the end, and I have to say that no other show on television has even come close to The X-Files, not even Lost.

Believe Again 7/25/08

artemisx Sun, Apr 20, 2008 at 02:00 PM EST

X files is far better than lost. I would love another x files movie as long as it is only M&S and the regulars (no next gen, people like D&R thanks.)

Nathan Sun, Apr 20, 2008 at 12:00 PM EST

A third X-Files film? Absolutely!

maxwell19596 Sat, Apr 19, 2008 at 05:18 PM EST

The X-Files is finding a new audience, and at one time was at the very pinnacle of television. There are some fantastic funny stand alone episodes, as well as the terrific mythology episodes. Chris Carter is on the money making this new movie a stand alone fun "episode". Then going back to his grand plot. The first four seasons of The X-Files has some of the best shows television has to offer. If you haven't seen them buy the DVD sets today! I promise you won't be disappointed. Thats my rant and I'm sticking to it...LOL

Al Sat, Apr 19, 2008 at 12:04 PM EST

I HAVE A MULDER ACTION FIGURE FROM THE 1998 FILM. I HOPE THEY COME OUT WITH SOMETHING FOR THIS ONE.

Melissa Sat, Apr 19, 2008 at 10:57 AM EST

Oh -- I agree with you, though, about wishing the tone could be like Jose Chung or Clyde Bruckman. Unfortunately, those episodes were written by Darin Morgan, and Darin quit writing before the series ended. In fact, he acted in Small Potatoes solely as a way to fulfill his contract, because he owed them one more script. Too bad, because I think his scripts were absolutely my favorite in the entire series. Chris Carter's episodes on the other hand....

Melissa Sat, Apr 19, 2008 at 10:53 AM EST

Shaun, I respectfully disagree with you. You're comparing apples to oranges. Compare seasons 1-4 of X-Files with Lost. It's not fair to say that Lost, which hasn't yet had the opportunity to hold it together -- or fall apart -- in season 6, 7, 8, etc. to a show that has finished its run. Did X-Files fall apart after season 6? Yep, definitely -- got worse each season. But those first six seasons (and a fair percentage of seasons 6-9) were absolutely masterful. If comparing the first four seasons of each show, I'd point out that Lost hit a sophomore slump that X-Files didn't suffer. That Lost has rebounded is a feat unto itself, but the slump and loss of focus still happened. Both series are quite excellent, and I'm looking forward to the new X-Files movie.

Sam Sat, Apr 19, 2008 at 10:19 AM EST

I'll be there. This was my favorite show as a kid (this and Buffy). I won't miss this.

Shaun Sat, Apr 19, 2008 at 09:48 AM EST

OK, now that I got that off my chest. "I want to believe" this new X-Files movie will be good. But I Have my doubts. It's been a long time since the series ended, and even longer since the show was still "appointment TV" for many people. Maybe something closer to those earlier, more stand-alone, episodes like "Clyde Bruckman" or "Jose Chung" would be the ticket? I just think the title is weak (Isn't this like calling a movie "Star Wars: May The Force Be With You"?) and it'll be tough to find an audience with all the competition this summer. But I will see it, and I will hope for good things.

Shaun Sat, Apr 19, 2008 at 09:44 AM EST

X-Files "better" than Lost? Umm... Whatever.

I was watching X-Files almost from the beginning (the last episode from season one was my first) and I stuck with it until well after the show was truly falling apart (somewhere around season five or six, the show lost its focus, and I stayed a season or two after that). I can only guess you haven't gotten to those later seasons yet, when it became clear that Carter was just making it up as he went along and that pretty much NOTHING would ever be resolved satisfactorily. Compare that incredible work Lost is doing (especially this season!) and there's just no comparison.

Lost is gaining momentum, not losing it, as the show races to a pre-determined end point. It's the very opposite of X-Files, a once-great show that didn't know how to wrap up its (many) loose ends and became a parody of itself by the end.

groovygirl Sat, Apr 19, 2008 at 07:30 AM EST

I recently just got started with watching X-Files and can I tell you, Im hooked. It is so much better than Lost. I do prefer the alien-invasion mythology and would love to see it pick up on the big screen! They brought back the Terminator story from movie to tv series. They can do the opposite with X-Files...tv to a trilogy of movies.

J Sat, Apr 19, 2008 at 01:20 AM EST

Yes to a third movie... only if I can be in it!

Mary Jackson Fri, Apr 18, 2008 at 10:31 PM EST

Yes, to a third movie...only if you include Doggett and Reyes.

Keri Fri, Apr 18, 2008 at 08:06 PM EST

YES!YES!YES! to a 3rd X-Files movie. Can't wait til July to see XF2.

Meg Fri, Apr 18, 2008 at 06:46 PM EST

As a loyal "X-Phile," I would absolutely love to see another film featuring Mulder and Scully in the works. Happily anticipating this summer's sequel for now--July 25th can't come soon enough!!! X-Files rocks!!!

gada Fri, Apr 18, 2008 at 05:37 PM EST

Omigod if that happened it would be amazing..I can't wait for this film!!!!SO EXCITED!!!!!!!!!!Really hope it does well so we get another stab at the mythology..

Jaime Fri, Apr 18, 2008 at 05:05 PM EST
