Chris Carter, if you ever read this site I'd like for you to know how deeply the X-Files is still loved by so many of us, and how much we would like to see one more film, if it could be arranged financially. I know I Want to Believe had to go up against The Dark Knight (which I thought was way, way over the top with little to recommend it other than Heath Ledger's performance), but I loved your spare, bleak, soulfull movie and I know of lot of others did too.

@ Simon - I hear what you say man, difficult to try and wrap up something so intricate and amazing in a 90 minute film. The one thing that we do have on our side is the double episode "The Truth" that ended season 9. This episode spent 90 minutes doing nothing but wrapping up, which felt good to watch and maybe got rid of some of that mystery prior to the happenings since 2002. However, I do believe we need some sort of link between 2008's "I want to Believe" and 2012's finale. Ideally either a mini series just before the film, or take the Lord Of the Rings option and produce a 2hr 40min super story with sufficient time then for extended explanatory revelations (God knows we loved the x-files because its story was just that good during the series) followed by an epic crescendo that only Chris Carter could deliver. (you see what I did there, I put extreme pressure on Chris Carter to produce, that was naughty of me).
Ah but seriously, as long as we get to see what happens :D

The television show was one best written shows on television especially once Frank Spotnitz joined as writer. Seasons 7 through 9 really saw a decline the the quality of the show but i think that was in large part because Ducovny left the cast. Dogget and Reyes were just not entertaining enough to carry the show alone but they should have been mentioned in the 2nd film. It was still a good film and stayed true to the series but if they could have shed some light on Scully and Mulders love child, what happens to gibson praise, or the cure that Jeffrey Spender has for the child it would have been a much better film.

i think that there should be a crossover between the x files and fringe. maybe in the next 10 episodes of fringe they find out that they have been working on a project called the x files and find out about the coming invasion. they go to mulder and scully for help. or there could be a twist in the third x files movie revealing that 1 or all of the lone gunmen had survived the poison that had killed them and they could finally go out in a heros death by finding the way to destroy the incoming invasion and sacrifice themselves for the greater good. or they could atleast get help from lois and jimmy.

I would love another 3 or 4 seasons but to be honest, that will never happen. It would be great to be able to watch new mysteries discovered for another couple of seasons with Mulder and Scully but I can not see that happening, especially since the second movie did so bad at box office. But I don't think it was even a possibility even if the movie preformed great. The best we can hope for is one more movie, maybe two.

The problem i see is that Chris Carter May want to wrap up the whole x-files thing in a final 90 minute movie with aliens and the like, the fact is that there is simply too much to cover in 90 minutes. we are talking about 9 whole seasons here and 2 movies to deal with that cant be wrapped up with earth being blown up war of the worlds style. that would be the absolute worst final ever. i think it would be much more complete and place itself in the history books for ever as THE best ever and most popular TV series ever by continuing with at least 3 or 4 seasons more before another movie. what di you think people.

Okay, is it me or does Rich have some obsessive desire to make it known that he doesn't like the X-Files movies? I mean, mate, seriously? You've posted multiple times starting with how much you love the show and can't wait for the movie to come out then switching to post after post after post saying that you can't stand the movies. Is it really so important to you that we know or are you just desperate to make others feel the same way? Personally I thought X-Files 2 was a great movie. Maybe not as good as the first but still really watchable. It also did make a profit in the end so was a success in it's own right, meaning a third movie is possible. Bring on X-Files 3!

It's hard for most to get what Chris was thinking I imagine. You have to remember that Mulder has been OUT of the FBI for a number of years therefore he isn't really going to be "himself". The movie still rocked and the MOTW was sticking to the creepy yet still shocking. The psychic priest was paranormal but the Frankenstein doctor and what he was doing was a brilliant idea. This is simply X-Files slightly reinvented for modern times yet still a little throwback. The movie was what I expected,just perfect. It gave a taste of the old with a possible new direction. I like the new Mulder. He still has his drive for the truth just not the resources of the FBI anymore. It was nice to see him out of the box so to speak. No gun or real resources just his drive for the truth. I think it opens up many future options for his character. Imagine the impossible for a minute. This series thrived on it once, why not again?

I really loved both movies myself. I enjoyed all the seasons as well...I'm really interested in a third movie..I think it would be cool though if maybe chris did like one more season leading up to the movie..just to show he still has it in him to do what he does( and does good at it btw) It would also maybe get some newer viewers interested or have older viewers more psyched. Eh, if they can't afford a third movie or TV show I would heavily encourage chris carter to finish the series in entire a graphical novel or a book. The movie almost definately made money, but the bench mark is almost assuredly higher than simply having to MAKE money to get another movie made, it needs to be a decent pay off otherwise it just isn't sufficent motive to get the studios to approve. However, the biggest reason the movie flopped from a personal perspective is that it was widely known even before the release that this was going to be a monster of the week movie. The MOTW eps were always good, but the mythar eps always had them beat by about 40 times in the quality and intrigue that they inspired. I don't understand how chris carter and the production staff made such a dumb move in giving the green light to what ammounts to a two hour standard episode. This show has a fanbase that is still alive and well, but we ALL want to see how it ends and have the final questions answere

Eh? Why is everyone saying it was a flop? Regardless of how you feel about the film (my wife and I both liked it), according to the sales numbers I've seen, it looks like the film cost $30-35 million, and grossed over $66 million, including foreign box office totals. So, unless promotions and marketing cost as much as the film itself (yeah, like how? I saw, maybe, four ads on television prior to opening day) then it's a certainty that Fox made money.

I would really like to see a Third Movie. I think it should be about the invasion in 2012, and I think it should bring closure to as much as is x-files possible. Financially speaking I think there would be a much bigger audience and more repeaters if this were the case. I also think that so many fans would be thrilled to return to what originally drew everyone in from the beginning: mulder/scully together searching for the truth...and saving the world in the meantime!

I LOVE The X-Files so much!!!!! I loved I Want to Believe and I loved the first movie and I love the show so much. I really really hope that Chris Carter will continue on with this amazing series with a third movie about an alien invasion on December 22, 2012. If there's anyone that can create a magnificent story about an alien invasion occurring in December 2012, Chris Carter can. i agree the pilot episode is great and so are the rest.i love the x files and i am waiting on the rest of the box sets.i have up to the seventh.I WILL ALWAYS LOVE THE X FILES.

Lol X-files fan u obsessed but i was once to! then i noticed it starting to slip after season 4 and then after season 5 no point in it any more not fun to watch was all story plot this story plot that i loved the xfiles cuz of episodes like small potatoes and clude bermans final respone or something like that not the story bull crap oh no!

I am just back from holiday and all i have done while i was away is play the x files playstation game and i completed the game playing as scully now i am half way through it with mulder.The x files are great and i am going to watch them everynight until i have the rest of the box sets,then i will watch it in my room everynight.I CANT WAIT TO GET THE REST OF THE BOX SETS BECAUSE I LOVE THE X FILES.Bye for now.

I realy want to see another x files movie coming to the big screens soon because the x files are great and i am sure that alot of people would agree.As for Rich i dont think alot of people would agree that the x files are rubbish after season 6 because i think they are great the whole way through.THE X FILES ARE GREAT.

The Xfiles were great untill season 4 were it stop being a power house then after season 6 it got horrible and both the movies were bad the 1st did alright in the big screen the second one wont make 30 million (its cost 30 million to make) and dont kid ur self into thinking it was a good movie go watch the seasons agian and tell me if this was an episode it would place in the top 150 xfiles made.... cuz i would call bullllllllllllcrap xD but honestly the xfiles might not even get make a 3rd movie there is some talk on making a strait to dvd one butttttt no one wants to even chance that chris honestly ur good man but play the xfiles how every one wants to see i know u got the money and i helped with that i own every single thing the xfiles has put out =( but make what we want next time not some movie that most likely killed the xfiles for good =(

Yes! We need a 3rd movie for closure on the whole aliens thing! I would love to have the feel of Mulder and Scully working a case together again, but as far as them getting married/getting william back...no, no, no! I love them being in love but I would hate to see it get all cute...that's just not right. And getting rid of the baby was the best thing they could have done. They can't be worried about their kid's report cards and such, they have much bigger things to worry about.

Both of the X-Files movies were excellent! I don't understand anything about you people that hate them, and I definitely don't understand how you call yourselves true fans. You think you know more about what should be done with a movie than Chris Carter? I know we all wanted a conspiracy-packed, alien related film but just because it wasn't doesn't make it rubbish. It was great, and hopefully because of it we will get to see another installment involving the ongoing story we have all know and love. I would sell my soul for just one more Mulder and Scully story. And if you wouldn't, and you thought the last two movies were bad...stop seeing them and definitely stop trying to discourage others from seeing them.

A few days ago i went to see "i want to believe" in my hometown in the Netherlands, being a lifelong Cris Carter fan my hope for a great movie were maybe a bit high,but oh my god, this is the biggest rubbish i have ever seen from everything Cris Carter ever did untill now. I wonder if no one involved in this project could see how bad it really is, there is almost no link to any of the X-files storylines, i was waiting for x-ibit to pimp Mulders ride (was it the 'x' he had to be in this movie?, i have everything Cris has done on dvd but im doubting if this last film will become part of this collection. All in all a waste of money and effort (my opinion), if u dont mind throwing some of ure money away, go and see it!
