Joss Whedon fills his 'Dollhouse' with four more cast members

Eliza Dushku is no longer the only tenant in the Dollhouse: Joss Whedon has added four cast members to his upcoming Fox drama about a bunch of young adults who are programmed with "personality packages" before being dispatched on assignments. (The Dollhouse refers to the memory-erasing lab where the dolls, like Dushku's Echo, stay after each mission.) Tahmoh Penikett (Battlestar Galactica) will play Paul Smith, an FBI agent who's got his sights on the Dollhouse operation — and on Echo. Fran Kranz (Welcome to the Captain) assumes the role of Topher Brink, a gifted, not-to-be-trusted programmer in charge of imprinting the dolls. Australian actress Dichen Lachman has been cast as Sierra, a doll who seeks a friendship with Echo, while Enver Gjokaj (a guest star on The Unit) is Victor,  another doll and Echo ally. The show has a seven-episode order from Fox.

I am SO RELIEVED Joss Whedon is casting fresh new faces instead of turning this into some BTVS re-do like so many fans seem to want. I think this show has a better chance of success if it doesn't look like a retread.

Helo! Hooray for Helo!

AAR Thu, Mar 27, 2008 at 10:13 AM EST

I was already gonna watch because of Joss Whedon, but now with Helo...WOOO!!!!! I'm glad someone scooped him up.

So, everyone realizes that Fox is going to cancel this....right? This is going to get the straight up Firefly treatment.

Lizavetta Thu, Mar 27, 2008 at 11:06 AM EST

I am definitely surprised that he'd do business with Fox again after the way they handled Firefly. Cancellation after one season is common enough, but showing the episodes out of order and not airing some crucial episodes? Yikes.

Ah Joss, you never let me down. Picking up Fran Kranz is an awesome move.

They already have a written-in-stone nine episode airing commitment, so I don't think it's a stupid move on Joss's part. Also, I think Fox has definitely learned its less about canceling Joss Whedon shows...

Seven episode commitment? Great, Joss will be able to fit it on two DVDs when Fox cancels it after three episodes.

Seriously, going back to Fox? Did Whedon suffer a head injury? If he does it a third time, he should be committed.

I'm still hoping that at least one of the remaining roles will be filled by a former Buffyverse actor. I really miss seeing them on TV every week.

Morgan Thu, Mar 27, 2008 at 12:24 PM EST

helo! yes! i'm completely watching this show now.

Kate Thu, Mar 27, 2008 at 01:29 PM EST

Joss has commented that the people who cancelled Firefly no longer work at FOX, so he's hopeful for the future of this show. Plus, he's co-producing with Eliza Dushku, whose development deal is with FOX, so he kind of didn't have a choice but to go there.

It will be weird to see Helo out of his uniform...

God, I hope Fox gives this a chance before pulling the plug on it. Bring back Firefly!

Tahmoh! Excellent choice for an agent.

Wow, Fox, how generous--a seven ep order? Maybe I'll get to treasure this series on DVD just like Firefly, only it will only have 7 eps on it. Thanks....

Here's crossing my fingers that Fox finally gets Joss and gives "Dollhouse" a real chance to build an audience.

TS Mon, Mar 31, 2008 at 10:29 AM EST

Not sure about the premise, but if Joss is doing it, I'll always give it a shot. Bring Back Firefly!! :)

Blm Mon, Mar 31, 2008 at 08:09 PM EST

I'm with TS--The premise doesn't sound like something I'd be interested in, but if Joss is doing it, I'll give it a chance. But watch out...you can be sure if it's a really good show, Fox will cancel it. Fox--Grrrrrr!

MMM Mon, Mar 31, 2008 at 08:35 PM EST

I really hope that Fox doesn't cancel this show. I love all of Joss's work, he is a brilliant writer, and Fox better give this show a chance. Joss deserves it.

As Whedon was never wrong with his casts so lets trust his choices.

BUT why FOX ?

Still don´t get it, after what they did to the best TV series ever FIREFLY, this station should have never gotten a new chance, they don´t deserve it.

Fox, did you learn your lesson ?
