Herbiehancock_l After his huge Grammy win for River: The Joni Letters, Herbie Hancock has teamed up once again with the woman who inspired his Album of the Year. Jazz and folk reunited when Hancock and Mitchell performed last week for Yahoo!'s Nissan Live Sets. (Such pop artists as Christina Aguilera, Maroon 5, and Lenny Kravitz have also delivered intimate gigs on Yahoo!'s custom-built stage on Los Angeles' Twentieth-Century Fox lot.)

During the two-and-a-half-hour show, Mitchell showcased three of her songs — "River," "Tea Leaf Prophesy," and "Hana" — while Hancock, backed by a top-notch band, brought out the funk with classics like "Chameleon" and "Watermelon Man," and resurrected his own crossover hit, "Rock It" — much to the crowd's delight (see full set list after the jump). The performance will debut on Yahoo! Music on April 1.

Just because someone has been branded a "legend" doesn't mean they deserve to win over newcomers who are revolutionizing music today. The 2008 Grammys exist to honor the best in music of the previous year, not the best in music of 1974 covered in one of those tired "guest collaborator" packages. Herbie won because Amy is 24, Kanye is 30, and Herbie is pushing 70, and the agist, crotchety, octagenarian voters (you know, your generation) wanted to give him a record sales boost. Social Security checks just don't cut it anymore.

Poor Ray ..
He doesn't know quality when he hears it..
Or maybe he hasn't heard it more likely

Amy won enough stuff
HH & JM deserve all the accolades they get

Can PopWatch please refrain from mentioning Mr. Hancock for at least another few months? Some of us are still incredibly upset over having stayed up all the way until 11:30pm on a Sunday to see him steal the Album of the Year Grammy from Kanye or Amy for a damn cover album! I just need more time to forgive!
