“My goal is to get Meredith [Ellen Pompeo] and Derek [Patrick Dempsey] together for good and let them try to figure out what it is to be in a relationship in the future,” Grey’s Anatomy creator Shonda Rhimes revealed to EW.com today. “And that is something that time off [during the writers' strike] really gave me perspective on — whether or not we could actually do it, how we could do it, that it would be amazing to watch how that works.”
Rhimes had dinner with Dempsey and “we talked about all of this,” she reports. “As actors, they’re very invested in Derek and Meredith. Ellen and I are getting together Monday.”
Also coming up when Grey’s returns for five episodes on April 24: Lauren Stamile, who plays McDreamy’s latest potential love interest, Nurse Rose, will return for all five episodes; and Elizabeth Reaser, as Jane Doe, will be back for three.
When told of the Meredith-McDreamy news, costar TR Knight exclaimed, “Oh, wow, I didn’t know that! I guess Meredith and Derek are gonna smooch again!” But Knight is busy getting over a bad cold before heading back to work next week: “I got the crud that’s been going around,” he said as he drove home from a doctor’s appointment this evening. “It was like, Body is crashing, you’ve got a week and a half to be sick before work starts, so go.”

Wow..finally some good news on the GA front for a change. Don’t ruin it now Shonda. The core couple needed fixing since S3, so it’s about time!
Well, I must be in the minority, but I actually loathe the Meredith/Derek relationship. She doesn’t deserve him!
This is what so many of us have hoped for since the first scene of season one! I’m so happy I don’t know what to say! I’m cautious, but still it made me smile. Good for Mer/Der and the countless fans who have been pleading with Shonda that she finally wants the couple together too. I was beginning to think she never wanted them together and was just using themf or good promo’s, but maybe the strike gave us one good thing after. I could do without Rose for even these episodes though. She’s so not needed, but love Mer/Der!
I would love that. I get so tired of the fake will they/won’t they routine, that I stop watching. Thrilled that she’s willing to find drama in an ongoing relationship. Finally!
I think that Meredith/Derek should either permanetly get together or stay apart. Having them be together and then being apart every few minutes was driving me crazy. I actually stopped watching the show for awhile because it just got annoying.
I’m a happy girl right now. My two favorite characters and my favorite show! It’s good news for sure.
this makes me happy. I am so sick of people putting all the blame on Meredith. Derek has done his fair share of sh*t too and until he acknowledges that is not ALL Meredith’s fault, I don’t think they can ever work. The fact that the plot device is sticking around annoys me though.
They fixed the typo’s in this article finally and FINALLY Mer and Der are going to be fixed. The only show I looked forward to seeing all season has been LOST. Now I finally have a reason to love Grey’s again. The Mer/Der characters on in a steady long term relationship is enough for me to love Thursday’s agian!
YAY! When I read this I literally jumped. This is some of the best news I’ve heard all week. I’m glad they should ultimately be together. Maybe he’ll stop being an ass..
The writers should have them end their relationship instead. She has been wishy-washy with him from Day 1. I’d rather see the dramatic possibilities of her realizing she blew a good thing with all of her indecisiveness, and having to watch him move on and be happy with someone else. Maybe the writers won’t make her so whiny with the next guy she gets involved with.

Well it’s official. Thank you Shonda! I can’t believe what happy news this is. Mer/Der are the core couple of GA. A good 85 percent of the GA writers blog is from fans pleading for Mer/Der to be together and tonight the GA baords are on fire with happy fans. It took them long enough to realize that it was not beneficial to keep moving this couple apart. Dempsey and Pompeo are good friends who have always loved Mer/Der together and have wanted for their characters what the fans wanted. Seems like Shonda is finally listening and for this I’m grateful.

I can’t trust Shonda, she lied to us so many times… all I can see is that Plant is still there for FIVE episodes (at least !) and it makes me sad because it means we’ll have to see Derek & Plant together for that long.

Well, I’m very glad! I hope that Shonda will make Derek FINALLY realize that it’s some of his damn fault if Meredith can’t trust him! I mean, come on: the wife thing, then the not chosing her thing, then the “I can’t breathe for you” thing, not to forget the ultimatum “I love you… until I find someone better” & of course “I’ll wait for you… two weeks, then I’ll kiss someone else & jump into a relationship with her”.

I would love to believe this but I am going to be cautious. Plant is still there for 5 episodes, what for?? If the goal is to get them together why have her there? I am sure she is just saying this so fans will stick around, which can only mean the first episodes back are going to be depressing for Mer/Der fans.
I will believe when I see it. But if it is true… best news ever!! A real couple, that’s something I would like to watch.

GA was on my Must-See list until Shonda Rhimes authorised those ridiculous story lines: Gizzie (give me a break), the off-on-off-on-pls-let-it-die DerMer relationship, Mer’s whiny sister, Jane Doe, Hahn’s running hostility towards Yang, etc. I still have unwatched GA episodes waiting for me. Even the writer’s strike couldn’t motivate me to sit those recordings. Don’t know if I care about Rhimes’s Mer-Der pitch. Don’t know if care about GA anymore. Gah, Gizzie still leaves a bad taste in my mouth. I wish they’d get rid of the ever-growing mouth that is Heigl.
This might be the most positive news we have gotten in a while, possibly ever.

It’s not the first time Shonda has taken fans down this road, but the talks that she’s having with PD/EP are a good sign as both are fans of this couple together and it’s more good news than we’ve had for such a long time that I’m going to enjoy it for now:)
I think it’s great that she meets with Patrick & Ellen!! It’s really nice to know that they have an influence on her (at least now!). She’s not deaf anymore, yeah!!
Shouln’t they hve done this 2 seasons ago? Why Now? Because the show is a sinking ship? Why keep the nurse if they’re putting Mere and Derek for good?

Finally we have some good news! It’s about time they worked through their issues. They didn’t go through all of this to throw it all away. Mer/Der are true love and we are finally going to see that happen! It’s going to be a heck of a ride, and a ride I’m so looking forward to watching!
