Led Zeppelin did it. Van Halen did it. Hell, even the Pixies did it. So what, you may be wondering, are the chances of Pavement getting back together for a reunion tour? Despite reports to the contrary, surprisingly good, actually — though it depends on how you define “tour.” The band’s leader, Stephen Malkmus, tells Entertainment Weekly in this week’s issue, “Something small in 10 years like the Zeppelin thing sounds good to me,” referring to the one-night-only London show the aging Hammers of the Gods put on in December. “Obviously, the arena would be smaller than theirs, though.”
Pavement’s happy-go-lucky bassist, Mark Ibold, currently busy touring with Sonic Youth in Australia, tells EW that he’d be on board, too. “Why not next month?” he jokes. “No, it needs to be carefully planned.” When asked if he saw any obstacles standing in the way, Ibold replied, “Learning the songs again. I’ve actually dreamt that there was a reunion show and I couldn’t remember the songs.”
Scott Kannberg, a.k.a. guitarist “Spiral Stairs,” who co-founded the band with Malkmus in 1989 and now lives in Seattle and fronts his own post-Pavement band, Preston School of Industry, comes closest to pin-pointing an exact date — perhaps tied to the 20th anniversary of the band’s label, Matador Records, in 2009. “Matador is having a 20th anniversary party soon, so maybe we’ll try to do something for that. [When contacted, Matador had no response.] The only hurdle might be getting everyone to drop what they’re doing, but I’m sure the excitement of playing again will make it okay.”
Man, why couldn’t they agree this much when Pavement was still together? —Chris Nashawaty

I wouldn’t mind seeing these guys play again. I only got to see them once when they were supporting Crooked Rain. Not sure I’d be that excited about new music per se, but a chance to see Summer Babe live sounds like a good show to me.
What the hell is Pavement? And who exactly is waiting for their reunion?
Excellent news! Pavement was one of the best bands of the ’90s. If there is any reunited band worth shelling out money to see, it’s this one.
Wow. Nothing brings back memories of college like putting on a Pavement album. It would be great for them to do a reunion show or ten.
Pavement is one of those bands where the tracks just don’t get tired. Partly because they never got played out on the Radio, but mostly because they sounded familiar and classic the first time around. Three cheers for Malkmus and co.
Dude, I will say this again, why do you refer to Led Zep as the aging Hammers of the Gods?’ For the last time, everybody is aging!!! Led Zep. Pancake or Pavement or whomever, you, me, everyone. Is it too much to expect that people who write for a living will know how to use proper grammar????
@john
what do you mean “what the hell is pavement?” are you 5 years old?
Looks like the time is ripe to cash in some of that indie cred they acquired from 1991-1999. Let’s hope that when they do it, they have the Pixies’ class and admit the paychecks are part of it.
What the h#ll is Ibold talking about?!? He didn’t know the songs the first time around.
he he, thats right, he didn´t know them…he didn´t know the songs from Terror Twilight. A reunion would be like a dream, i never got to se them live.

Honestly, i grew up in the 90’s and have no idea who they are!?!
Can someone point me to an album or tune i might know?
Responding to Anthony.
If you were a teen in the 90s, you know them even though they were a small indie rock band in the true musical and business sense of the term ‘indie’. They once blasted the Smashing Pumpkins and Stone Temple Pilots in a song called “Range Life.” Quite a good tune however.
If you grew up in the 90s as I did, then they’re just another band that split before your time. However, I like them, have the really badass reissues of the first 3 albums, am waiting for the other 2 album reissues and I do want to see them reunite.
Key Tracks:
from Slanted & Enchanted:
“Summer Babe”*
“No Life Singed Her”
“Here”
“Loretta’s Scars”
from Crooked Rain, Crooked Rain:
“Cut Your Hair”*
“Gold Soundz”
“Range Life”
from Wowee Zowee:
“We Dance”
“Rattled By The Rush”
“Father to the Sister of a Thought”
“Kennel District”
from Brighten The Corners:
“Stereo”
“Shady Lane”
from Terror Twilight:
“Spit On A Stranger”
“Carrot Rope”
unfortunatley i grew up in the 90s so i only got into pavement a couple of years ago but i think they’re bloody brilliant i just hope if they do a reunion tour they come to australia

One of the greatest bands of the 90’s… I saw them 3 times back then… The Wowie Zowie Tour in 95… Brighten The Corners in 97… and their final tour in 99… Awesome shows… Saw Stephen M. on his first solo tour also… Look forward to seeing them together again next year

Yeah, it was Listen 2 This. I liked those, but then they started not being exclusively about music, (they started to include video games & comic books too) http://carpet-cleaning.emenace.com/carpetclba/17.html commercial carpet cleaning undefined
