Could the writers' strike be over soon?

Strike_lGood news from the picket lines? A source close to the negotiations says a tentative deal has been reached between the Writers Guild of America and the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers. A meeting is scheduled for Monday to tie up the final details. Both sides have been conducting informal negotiations under a shroud of secrecy for several days so their chief negotiators could finally bring an end to the ongoing labor dispute, now in its third month. There's been a press blackout on the talks, though the WGA has continued to announce interim deals with Hollywood independent producers.

The WGA has not publicly commented on the latest developments. In fact, on Sunday EW obtained an e-mail sent to the writers by WGA West president Patric Verrone and WGA East president Michael Winship, urging the membership to "disregard rumors about either the existence of an agreement or its terms."

"We are still in talks and do not yet have a contract," the e-mail continues. "When and if a tentative agreement is reached, the first thing we will do is alert our membership." Verrone also said that picketing will resume Monday.

End this now, enough is enough. People are losing their homes and by the way there is a recession going on, quit adding to it.

Could it be that our many prayers have been answered? You better not be giving me false hopes, EW. I almost fainted when I read the headline! Deliverance is nigh!

I've already prepared myself to be happy with the 8 episodes of LOST I'm getting for sure and the return of Dancing with the Stars, & The Bachelor. If we get full seasons of CSI, LOST, Desperate Housewives, Grey's Anatomy, and Ugly Betty, that will be great too, but I'm loving most of the new reality shows and I hope the networks put on more in the fall.

Hey, A - Just made it a third of the way through "Veronica Mars" Season 3. I don't know why this season has so many detractors because I think it's just as good as the first two! I know it's comprised of mini-mysteries and some stand-alone episodes, but the quality is still there. May want to watch this season again without the month-long breaks between episodes :) And, as I said to the writers before, take your time! We're catching up on some good stuff here!

If this strike should continue throughout February, be aware that this is the month that Turner Classic Movies features 31 DAYS OF OSCAR, uncut and commercial free! Everything from Gone with the Wind, to Casablanca, to 2001: A Space Odyssey to Jaws to Raging Bull. Enjoy quality films again!

I never realized how little I would miss what passes for TV these days until the strike. With the exception of a few shows that I can count on the fingers of one hand, I have not even noticed the strike. So, I thank the Guild for helping me find more productive uses of my time. When I do want to watch TV, I heartily agree with those who have tuned into some of the classic shows. There's a reason they're still playing on reruns.

When TV programming finally goes a la carte, the writers are going to find themselves in much deeper trouble than they are in now.

Please, please let this be true. I'm so tired of this strike.

Eric Friedmann Mon, Feb 4, 2008 at 01:18 PM EST

JohnT, I like your no bullsh*t attitude! Everybody, try turning on Turner Classic Movies or TV Land for a change and see what entertainment USED to be like. I spent this past Saturday night watching my BEN-HUR dvd, not giving one rat's ass about the writer's strike! I'm a happy man!

Eric Friedmann Mon, Feb 4, 2008 at 12:46 PM EST

Now we can all look forward to more crap TV and movies! Stay on strike, why don't you! The world has more important issues to worry about than your grievances!

Mr. Williams Mon, Feb 4, 2008 at 11:04 AM EST

I just hope the Writer's get what they asked for and then some. Meanwhile, I've been watching my Classic Television DVD's of "The Wild, Wild, West" and "Mission: Impossible". Those shows were GREAT!!!

JohnT Mon, Feb 4, 2008 at 10:36 AM EST

I'm with SDA333: Take your time! We, as a nation, have more imp9ortant matters afoot than whether or not you get come fraction of a % for video downloads. The economy is in the tank and heading for the bottom and we've got a serious presidential election in play. Without the usual pap gluing Americans to their couches, perhaps they may wake up, get involved in the democrtic process and, actually vote. What a change that would be.

SDA333 If i were you I'd stop right now. It'll only disapoint you after the brilliance of one and two

Ami Sun, Feb 3, 2008 at 11:01 PM EST

I hope this is true - I can't wait to see some of the several TV shows to be back before the Fall

SDA333 Sun, Feb 3, 2008 at 05:16 PM EST

Take your time, writers. I've just begun the third season of "Veronica Mars" on DVD and want to savor every moment!

Marissa Sun, Feb 3, 2008 at 05:12 PM EST

I just hope that Gossip Girl, Lost, FNL, BSG, and The Office come back before the fall!!!

If this deal is true and goes through fast enough, 24 and Lost might get their full seasons after all. Finally... :)

Congrats to the writers though, but don't disappoint us with your return. Remind us why you guys are essential in Hollywood.

KateDFW Sun, Feb 3, 2008 at 11:27 AM EST

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE Let this be true! It is pretty clear (with all the junk on right now) that our favorites shows need the writers! Now, get me my 24 and 30 Rock, STAT!

JohnT Sun, Feb 3, 2008 at 10:19 AM EST

The DGA deal set the stage for this.

Roger Sun, Feb 3, 2008 at 06:10 AM EST

I hope not until they recieve what that earn without their skills Hollywood will be lost. Say big guy how much are you losing everyday and if you had a lick of common sence instead of your stinking greed you could say the show goes on but hiring scabs will destory you in the end idiots!

Jonathan F. Sun, Feb 3, 2008 at 12:55 AM EST

Yay. 'Bout time. I was getting bored.

krikky Sat, Feb 2, 2008 at 11:25 PM EST

Oh please don't tease me EW.com... Not after that breathtaking 'Lost' season premiere on Thursday. Could there be more than 8 episodes this season? Smile down upon us, oh Gods of the Guilds.

Sherman Sat, Feb 2, 2008 at 06:47 PM EST

Finally
