Your 2008 Coachella lineup

Categories: In Concert, Music Biz

After months of speculation, the 2008 Coachella line-up was finally announced Monday. Grabbing the headlining slots? Jack Johnson, Portishead, and Roger Waters, who will play Pink Floyd’s Dark Side of the Moon in its entirety. The Raconteurs, Kraftwerk, and Death Cab for Cutie grabbed warmup slots. What happened to the much-rumored My Bloody Valentine reunion?  Perhaps Love & Rockets is meant to be some sort of consolation prize. We’re looking into it. Still, there’s plenty of Brits represented on this year’s bill, including welcome returns from The Verve and Spiritualized. I gotta tell you, given past lineups on this festival that I look forward to every year, I’m kind of unimpressed. Especially considering My Bloody Valentine isn’t performing.

  • amy

i think this article would be a lot better if you pointed out the fact the verve will be there, not silly jack johnson

I’m kind of disapointed with the line up this year, however I am looking forward to seeing Scars on Broadway.

  • lily

i have all the respect for the artists and bands playing at coachella, but i was SO disappointed for the headliners. i mean come on now, jack johnson?

  • Omar

All those great bands and you cite Jack Johnson as headliner??? Gimme a break. Real music fans will be thrilled by this great lineup, in particular the Verve and Spiritualized.

  • Rebecca

Some decent bands this year. Looking forward to seeing Love and Rockets and The Swell Season -aka the couple from ‘Once’.

  • Peter

Um. Jack Johnson headline? Who planned this festival, a 50 year old? sooooooo disappointed. wow. I go every year, and I think I have decided to give up on this one.

  • Derry

Its not like your forced to watch Jack Johnson..quit being whiny land just don’t go!!(very Simple) and let real music fans who can appreciate the other 124 acts go to the festival!!

  • Kera

Dang, I was so excited for this. What a let down.

  • j

jack johnson is a real disappointment. maybe they went with more mellow bands so they didnt end up with a bunch of rage heads there like last year.

  • chuch

this year sucks balls. count me out. chale!

  • Andy

No one is worth $90 this year. Waters can’t sing and isn’t the same without Gilmore. I live in Indio and this will be the first year I don’t go. I’m very disapointed.

  • gabrielle

Kraftwerk!!! Love and Rockets!!! I’d pay just to see those two acts <3

  • John

    THE VERVE….yeah kids..

  • Jen

Sure, the big name headliners draw people in but it looks like that there’s plenty of upcoming and unknown bands that could be worth checking out. I personally know 1 band who has been accepted to play and they’re very excited :-) . So, yes, I’ll give them a plug : Electric Touch (who are playing on day 2 of the festival) – http://www.myspace.com/electrictouchmusic

THE BEES. and STARS. this is going to be great

  • MRV

This year SUX big time. Jack Johnson….I mean come on. Compare it with last year 2007- RATM
    2008- Jack Jonhson
We should all go simply to boo him!!!

  • Dana

i gotta say last year’s line up was definitely better.. when you have Rage and the Chilis playing, you know its gonna be an amazing show. i’d be pretty stoked to see aesop rock, the verve, and slightly stupid though..

  • david

Justice is more of a headliner than Jack Johnson. I predict a big exodus to the dance tent from the main stage when JJ takes the stage. Maybe NYC Coachella with Radiohead will vindicate the organizers bc they screw up big time with the main acts here.

  • amad

man i am so mad all the line up sucks
    this year jj come on

  • mike

boys noize! institubes crew! ed rec crew! Deadmau5! Sasha & Digweed! Erol, Fatboy Slim, Teenagers, NYPC!
    yes please!

  • jay j raymond

WOW! this lineup stinks. Granted, there are some awesome bands on here, but overall disappointing. Usually I’m eager to hand over my money for the lineup, this year not so much.

The Headliners SUCK! The entire line-up in it’s entirety doesn’t suck though, alot of great smaller acts I would like to see, but not at a venue like coachella
