Warner Bros. confirmed Wednesday that it won’t be able to get the George Miller-directed Justice League of America off the ground in time for a spring start. As reported here last week, the studio had until Jan. 15 to decide whether the multi-superhero tentpole would begin production in hopes a summer 2009 release. But script issues and production tax complications have forced the studio to push things back until the writers’ strike (and expected actors’ strike) are over. The studio is still committed to the young cast Miller has selected (including Adam Brody as Flash and the unknown Megan Gale as Wonder Woman) and hopes to make the movie with them at a later date.

Good. I’m glad that insulting cast wont be pushed on us. If they couldn’t get Bale, they should have gotten Keaton and Welling. It was so obvious. All those old action guys from the 80’s are returning. Indiana Jones, Rambo, Die Hard. If they can come back, so can Keaton. Then you’ll have a proper Batman/Superman mashup everyone has been dieing for.

It’s probably not a bad thing that the Justice League movie was canceled. It’s very difficult to make a good movie about just one superhero- witness all the Batman films before the incredible “Batman Begins”. If the JLA movie is ever made, it’s unlikely that the characters will be treated with any seriousness or depth. And Batman, as per bloody usual, will come off looking like a clown (which he isn’t) instead of the greatest hero in the entire Justice League (which he is).
I hope they cancel the production completely! Enough with the superhero movies already! They’re getting stale!

Thank goodness JLA 90210, or Justice Babies of America, or whatever this was going to be, is on the shelf. Rethink the script, maybe even bring in some comic pros (Geoff Johns or Mark Waid come to mind) to help it out. And, for the love of J’onn J’onzz, PLEASE recast this thing with actors who at least look like adults.
I mean, really, a 21 year old Batman? If the rumors about Arnie Hammer, Jr were true that’s what we’d get. This, while Christian Bale is playing the part in the darker, more “realistic” Bat-franchise that Chris Nolan is doing such a great job with. Forgetting the fact that Bale’s Bruce Wayne was already an adult when he left Gotham for SEVEN YEARS to train in his mission to fight crime, who thought casting a kid as the Dark Knight was a good idea?
My wish: Scrap the JLA project all together, reboot the Superman franchise and start over (just like Marvel’s doing with the Hulk movie). Only do JLA after Bats and Supes have run their course.
I just wish they put this thing to sleep already. We have a new Batman that truly shines (in the dark of course) and a promising Superman. Why make fun of all that with this kind of movie. By the way when I saw that Batman vs. Superman ad in I Am Legend I thought, “so that´s why the world has ended”
