Grammys expected to go on with Amy Winehouse, Beyonce

Amybeyonce_lThe Hollywood Insider has confirmed that troubled singer Amy
Winehouse (pictured, left) plans to appear at the Grammy Awards on Feb. 10. She’s nominated for six
statuettes, but there had been concern that her legal woes would
prevent the Brit from obtaining a visa to enter the U.S. That tangle
seems to have been worked out, but it’s still unknown whether she’ll
perform.

The Grammys have bigger issues to deal with, anyway. Putting together this year’s half-centennial bash has become particularly thorny, thanks to — what else? — the writers strike. The Golden Globes were reduced to a press conference because of the strike, but the Recording Academy insists that, regardless of WGA approval, it’s forging ahead with the ceremony.

If the WGA doesn’t allow its writers to pen dialogue for the CBS
telecast, insiders say viewers can expect a banter-light,
performance-heavy ceremony. The Foo Fighters are the only act confirmed
so far. They’ll be playing an orchestral version of the
Grammy-nominated song “The Pretender” as part of the annual My Grammy Moment
contest. Other performers are expected to be announced any day now, but
we hear that offers are out to Michael Bublé, John Legend, and Chris
Daughtry for what’s shaping up to be a marathon of tributes and duets.
“It’s been business as usual,”says a source familiar with the
bookings.”Even the parties are still a go.”

But if the WGA announces that writers will picket
the event, all eyes will turn to nominees such as Beyoncé (pictured,
right), Justin Timberlake, and Jon Bon Jovi — all of whom happen to be
members of the Screen Actors Guild — for guidance. (UPDATE: In a statement released Thursday, Beyoncé’s father/manager Matthew Knowles said the singer would attend and perform at the Grammys.) SAG has vowed that
its members will not cross a WGA picket line. Will these
musician-actors show up? One industry exec bets that, in the end, the
stars’ music loyalties will win out: “While artists respect the
writers, they will still attend the awards. The Grammys are a highly
coveted celebration and a symbol of credibility to their peers.” Grammy
organizers, not to mention legions of music fans, are surely hoping
that’s right.

Good– I will be SO angry if they cancel the grammys! Especially the 50th anniversary. We don’t need the writers for the show– more performances, and less stupid jokes and talk– can only improve the grammys anyway. I am really sick of the writers ruining everything for so many people! Do they really care about who they are hurting? The grammys should have nothing to do with the writers strike– and for them to exploit the few singers like beyonce or justin timberlake- to further their own agendas- makes me hope none of their demands are met.

  • Twist

I hope the strike cancels both the Grammy’s and the Oscars. Hollywood needs to realize its small place in this large world. The excess is immoral.

You know, if the Grammys did not have Beyonce, Jon Bon Jovi or Justin Timberlake, I’d be okay with that. Why not showcase more of the new artistsn nominated or those artists in other categories that we’d never get to see before (i.e. folk, comedy, classical, jazz, blues, latin, for examples).

The banter on the Grammy’s is always painful to watch anyway, so I’m glad to not have any “writers” participating. Maybe they can get some winners at the pre-televeised-show awards to present, or even perform now. Furthermore, if the writers picket, and SAG won’t cross the picket lines, and this keeps me from having to look at Justin Timberlake.. then the writer’s strike has been totally worth it for me.

  • Deborah

Amy Winehouse might appear? Oh good, now I really have no reason to watch.

  • Ben

    Good for the Grammys!
The writers do not have the right to rule the entire entertainment industry.

  • Lynn

Report it! I just read the news on the bbw meeting club largesingle.com and then i came here…

  • Fatima

Twist – Why are you here? I don’t mean to be rude, but if you’d actually like them to cancel the biggest tradition in movies, I really don’t understand why you would even be at an entertainment site that talks about celebrities all day.

  • Paige

I am sick of both Justin Timberlake and Beyonce Knowles. Both are overrated. Why does the industry treat these two like they are the cream of the crop. I would fine if neither one of them showed up. Give other artist that have real talent and make better music a chance to shine.

  • Dean

The writing for the awards shows so stupid anyways. The banter is phony. The Grammys is a music show.We do not need to hear stupid dumbass banter.

  • mrt

these awards are just like the rest fixed in favor of those who are either political or sleeping with some producer.

  • kelly

all awards are so predictable, that’s why nobody cares anymore, it’s about who you know and they lost all credibility just like the media

agree their is a bias towards certain people and they are no loner relevant.

  • mm

twist is right hollywood is so self absorbed and just a popularity contest

  • Udy

Well, I am happy Ms. Winehouse will appear, but Ms. Knowles can stay at home and do her hair! I mean, it’s a joke she’s a SAG member.
And yes, the banter is often phony.
Why not get Kelsey Grammer to host it again? He was so unfunny, it wasn’t funny!
But come on, you can’t cancel the Oscars! I live for that excess every year! Jon Stewart has made it worth watching again, so give him and his writers a chance to get cracking!

  • Tinah

Both Justin and Beyonce’s performances last year were lackluster, so who cares whether they perform or not. I like them both. But, if I watch one award show without hearing Justin’s falsetto or seeing Beyonce’s big but bouncin around the stage…I’ll be better than okay. I’m looking forward to seeing Amy though.

  • Tinah

    I meant “butt”, of course.

  • LM

If there’s no performance by Timberlake, there’s no reason to watch.

  • I’m okj

Amy winehouse is a NUT, but jeeze, you can’t argue with her talent, I don’t care how twisted she is, I want to see her perform!

I am glad the Grammy Awards will go on as planned. The Writer’s strike is so lame and only hurts the “little people,” such as gaffers, cameramen, foley artists, stage mgrs & PAs. Of course, none of Writers care a thing about anyone but themselves (big surprise, considering its Hollywood). Besides, is it really fair and equitable to pay the writers of shows such as Frank TV and the show based on the GEICO Cavemen the same amount of money as the writers of Seinfeld and The Sopranos. Last I checked, we lived in a meritocracy. I know I don’t get paid the same as a neurosurgeon, and I shouldn’t b/c I am not on that level. Ah, but I forget, most of those in the Industry are socialists at the least. I find that funny, considering these same people got wealtlhy due to capitalism only. Otherwise, they would be making as much as, say, a janitor. I wonder how they would like that…

Has anyone else noticed that there are more award shows now than ever? Less than 10 yrs ago there were only the Oscars, Emmys, Grammys and maybe the CMAs. Now we have the Golden Globes, SAG awards, BET awards, the Latin Grammys, the People’s Choice Awards, and for awhile we had the Blockbuster Awards.
How many times to we have to worship people just like us, except their jobs make them household names. I don’t know of any award shows for people who have made progress in the medical/ scientific field, or have made significant contributions to the world. These are the people that truly deserve to be honored. As a cancer survivor, I have a new perspective and though I like to see the gowns, I can’t stomach all the self-aggrandization that comes with these award shows. Oh, in case you want to attack me for my comments, I am 25, blonde, 5′4, 103 lbs and a first year law student. So, no I am not jealous of those in the industry. In fact, I left LA b/c the people are so egocentric.

  • where’s the hive?

Amy is just not the same without the beehive…. Her music is still amazing and I hope she performs!

  • Reggie Boyle

EVERYONE in Hollywood is overpaid. It is hard to feel sorry for these people when you actually look at the budgets for these TV Shows or especially movies. They “expense out” EVERYTHING beyond belief. These writers who are on strike are still getting paid from the reruns they have written before unlike most people on strike. I also find it funny that gameshows & reality shows are so popular when those shows don’t really need writers! How would you like to be a talent that was nominated for Grammy album of the year only to have greedy striking writers putting a damper on your proudest moment? People turn off your TV’s & spend some time with your family. There really isn’t anything worth watching anyway. Thanks to the writers!!!!!!

  • tess

Nope, Winehouse has been denied entry into the US. LOL! YAY! I hope they cancel this stupid show too and any other award shows. Hollywood needs to get over itself. The sense of entitlement in these people is unreal.

  • Caylee

I wonder will peole who live for these shows and the whole celeb BS ever cop on and realise those you admire so much couldn’t care less wheather you exist or not…they only want your measly dollar…try putting the same energy into youselves that you put into them and buying mags to read and see their touched up pics and see how much your own lives might appear….remember last year the rerah about Britney’s weight and how fat she was, even though it was horrific performance there was no problem with her weight but I wonder will anyone outthere tonight comment about Byonce’s big thighs…I bet not like the other person said its all about who’s in whos pocket, kiss ass etc etc and that’s my opinion One more comment about the grammys tonight I found it to be one of their better ones, its about time they showed there is other types of music out there and you do not have to be half naked to see or play it

  • Caylee

That last line was suppose to be sing it or play it…excuse my error
