The Hollywood Foreign Press Association has finally announced that this Sunday’s Golden Globe telecast on NBC and champagne-soaked dinner are now canceled. In their place will be an hour-long HFPA press conference covered live by NBC News beginning at 6:00 PST. “We are all very disappointed that our traditional awards ceremony will not take place this year and that millions of viewers worldwide will be deprived of seeing many of their favorite stars celebrating 2007’s outstanding achievements in motion pictures and television,” said Jorge Camara, president of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association. “We take some comfort, however, in knowing that this year’s Golden Globe Award recipients will be announced on the date originally scheduled.”

Very sad but atleast something is being televised. I’ll miss the fun speeches. I support the writers but please find a solution soon. I look forward to awards season and this definitely dampens it.
I think the WGA is making a big mistake. Isn’t this the perfect venue for actors to stick up for the writers and have the world hear it?
Darn, I’ll miss seeing them honor something as inane as Green Card as best picture live!
i am very disappointed in not seeing this show. i am a union member and really support the writer. but it is one thing worth mentioning…tv is not all the great anymore and is hardly worth looking at; so this show will be sorely missed. reality shows is not always entertaining all the time every single day. someone in hollywood needs to get it together. give up the royalties and get on with some real programming and where are the stars besides those on the silver screen??? they must be bored out of their minds! not everyone new is good to look at on television…use some inovation PLEASE. PARDON MY SPELLING!
I think it’s ridiculous that the actors refuse to attend the event. If the writers want to strike the show, then let them. Why should everyone else be punished because of the greedy WGA? The WGA needs to be shown that Hollywood will go on without them. It’s too bad SAG can’t stand up for themselves.
WGA — Go back to work!!! Is a few dollars (to add to your $$$$$ salaries) really worth the harm you’re causing everyone else? WGA = GREED
if the writers were truly ethical, then it would be all of them back to work as opposed to only some – as is currently the case. now the way it is, it’s fine for some of the writers to go back to work, yet everyone else (non-writers) is still supposed to boycott. the writers are self-serving hypocrites, in my opinion.
um…who cares, I’m waiting for the Oscars!
The WGA brings down the GLOBES!!!! SCORE!!!! YESSSS!!!
For the first year in three years I was going to be able to enjoy the show during my winter break. Darn it all! I support the writers, but this is a bummer.
Golden Globes cancelled? GOOD! There are too many “celebrities” whose egos are far greater than their talent, and we don’t need to listen to their empty blather.
If the Grammys and Oscars are also cancelled, all’s well and good. Most “entertainment” today is nothing but crap.

i mean dont get me wrong, im all for the writers, heck they make all my shows fun to watch, but i NEED MY AWARD SHOW FIX!! just make sure you guys get this whole thing settled BEFORE the Oscars!! PLEASE!!!

This totally sucks! I’ll pay the writers to do the golden globes for god sakes! As long as they don’t cancel the oscars.
This strike is changing the face of Hollywood entertainment: no awards shows, no Summer pilot season, and, probably, no Fall season either. I think it’s safe to say, network television will never be the same again. Might be goood for the WGA or they may have screwed the pooch. Time will tell. Either way it goes, it has no meaningful effect on my life.
i’m so upset, this is the first awards ceremony i look forward to, and not it’s cancelled, and what’s worse is that we don’t get to see the amazing fashion, and the often fun speeches from the winners who deserve to be recognized. please find a solution before the oscars.

Will they still announce the winners?
I am all for the strike but I think they made a mistake being this aggressive- they need the public support in order to get what they want and by being this aggressive in not working to make an agreement with the globes they are shooting themselves in the foot. They should have at least made the effort for the public. The tide will start to change on them if they do not watch it. I love the award shows and if the Oscars are cancelled and the upcoming TV season for the fall is affected then a lot of them might not have jobs for too long because people will realize they don’t need the television and not come back to it when it finally ends. I for one am realizing I can do other things and am realizing I don’t need to watch the TV shows I thought I did. There are even some shows I might not watch when they finally come back. I am pro writers but they need to get back to the table because I might be willing to change sides if it goes to much long- they look greedy the longer it goes on.
WGA for the win! Plus, we know some network people are loving this news- they keep trying to make awards shows shorter and shorter…
Hollywood peeps will now just have to make it a “Sunday” party instead of a “Globes” party that night.
Um, lame! The Golden Globes is the best awards show, with all the TV and Movie people present, and half in the bag, it’s way more fun than the Oscars. They wouldn’t not show the Oscars, so just postpone the Globes until this darn strike is resolved. Just give the writers what they wat and so righteously deserve!
It may take the repercussions from the results of this cancellation for the WGA and the studios/networks to achieve an agreement. However, both sides are losing sympathy as to the rest of America they are both seen as a greedy, overpaid business. Don’t be surprised if the Oscars are not aired either.
all of these crazy people talking about how the writers are greedy, etc. need to step back and think about what they are saying. if YOU were in their shoes, you would want a cut of the business as well. think about how many times you have quoted a tv show. or couldn’t wait until the next episode so you would know what happens next. or wished you had a life as exciting as the characters on your screen. the writers do that. they deserve as much money as they can get.
Television makes a lot of money. I think it’s about time to fairly share that success with the essencial people who makes that possible, THE WRITERS.
the globes were always the least legitimate of the big award shows anyway…let them televise the razzies instead…the one award show where they count on the stars not showing up…haha
I was really looking forward to watching the Golden Globes as well. I agree with the comments that the WGA is slowly losing support by basically forcing the actors to not attend the awards show. The Golden Globes are one of the more exciting awards shows. The thing that is most upsetting to me is that first timers (like Ellen Page or Diablo Cody, who will most likely win their awards) won’t be able to experience the excitement that comes with attending their first big award show. I used to support the writers, but due to their strike, now all of America has to be subjected to American Gladiators and no awards shows. Thank you writers! Stop whining and get back to work!
The Writer’s deserve their far share but come on! I personally view them as extremely greedy. Why boycott the award shows that reward your talent (yes, including you, writers!). If the Academy Awards telecast is cancelled as well I am going to be completely upset and angry. Why can’t they just come to an agreement already? At least I have American Idol to watch, hah.
All of you WGA supporters — wake up!!! The strike is about making MORE MONEY! These are not people struggling to make ends meet, or fighting for benefits (like medical insurance). They just want more money to add to their already inflated salaries. I have no pity for the Guild members. But I do feel deep concern for the thousands of laymen losing their jobs and livelihoods evry day as a result of this stupid strike. They’re the victims here, not the WGA members.
YAY! Now maybe Americans will tune into more important matters, like the upcoming election and the looming war with Iran…
