Fantastic! I'm so glad its getting made, and I am glad that peter and his 2 film idea are involved. I am fine with someone else directing, as long as they are first caliber and mesh well with Jackson. Hired out directors only helped Lucas original Star Wars sequels. lol.

I DO hope that Gandalf's explosive magic is left in this time, and am desprate for scenes of his espionage in Dol Guldur, as well as scenes from the council, on which I do hope Lee's Saruman, Weaving's Elrond and Blanchett's Galadriel (heres hoping for Glorfindel as well) will all be shown. Merry Christmas to All the FANS! This certainly adds to my holiday merriment!

According to Variety, Sam Raimi is the main name for a director at this stage.

I would prefer Jackson, but Raimi should be adequate, and Jackson will oversee the production ensuring high quality and faithfullness to Tolkein.

And yes, I imagine that the failure of New Line's very expensive LOTR replacement, Golden Compass, encouraged New Line to shell out the money they owed Jackson so he would be involved.
