Dec 14, 2007, 04:56 PM | by Dan Snierson

Categories: TV Biz

Lost_l Lost fans have long been dying to get back to the future, and their wait is almost over: ABC will debut season 4 of the island drama on Thursday, Jan. 31 at 9 p.m., in place of Grey's Anatomy. This scheduling move keeps the series out of harm's way (read: American Idol), and will also please tired fans who had trouble last season staying up Wednesday nights until 11 p.m. Eight episodes of the show will air on consecutive Thursdays (the other half of the season is still TBD because of the strike). ABC has also set premiere dates for some new shows: Cashmere Mafia (Thursday, Jan. 3; it will air on Wednesdays starting Jan. 9); Dance War: Bruno vs. Carrie Ann (Monday, Jan. 7);  Eli Stone (Jan. 31, after Lost);  and Oprah’s Big Give (Sunday, Mar. 2). By the way, Dancing With the Stars and The Bachelor kick off new seasons on Monday, Mar. 17.

I am so exited for the forth season! I wish the stupid writers strike would end. I don't know what i will do if they take a break after only 8 episodes. i will be on the edge of my seat and that will not be good! The ending of the third season was so strange i can't wait to see what happens next.

debby Fri, Jan 25, 2008 at 11:25 PM EST

I am hooked love it so happy they are returning .I love the all the cast

Joann D'Alessandro Mon, Jan 21, 2008 at 08:34 AM EST

As someone who has a life in addition to a Lost addiction, I'm thrilled the show was moved to Thursday nights! I'm surprised that it wasn't moved before... a lot of schools and organizations schedule meetings and activities on Wednesday night as a sort of mid-week break. Now I won't have to wait until the show comes out on DVD to watch it!

wendy brinkman Wed, Jan 16, 2008 at 05:24 PM EST

I'm thrilled, I've been so lost without Lost......

smoove Tue, Jan 15, 2008 at 04:39 PM EST

well thank you mr. clarification, but do you mean that the other 8 episodes are not yet prepared and even the producers don;t know when it will air??!

StrikeClarification Mon, Jan 14, 2008 at 12:02 PM EST

It is amusing that many of you self-proclaimed fans of Lost can seem to follow the show's complicated and amazing story line, yet cannot grasp some very simple logistics when it comes to the strike. The strike that has been going on for months has no end in sight. That means production on ALL scripted shows has come to a halt. They only reason we kept getting new shows for a little while was because production is always a ahead of the viewers. This winter/spring is when we will now feel the effects of the production halt--the only new scripted shows to air are ones that did not premier in the fall, and even they will have a relatively short life because ultimately their production stopped as well. Even when the strike ends (and that is not on the near horizon) it will take months for new shows to hit the airwaves--think of all the writing and production that will have to be ramped up again. At this point, none of the fall's shows will be back for a spring season.

smooove Wed, Jan 9, 2008 at 01:42 PM EST

please tell me what is the strike anyone ?

woefullylost Sat, Dec 29, 2007 at 09:02 PM EST

i read a lot of complaints about actors working and writers being greedy - how come no ones considering the part the NETWORKS play in all this? (BTW, LoyallyLost, actors, writers and the rest of production tend to work sixteen hour days and well into the summer

LOST FAN Tue, Dec 18, 2007 at 02:24 PM EST

If Lost is taking the Grey's slot, where does that put Grey's?

LoyallyLOST Mon, Dec 17, 2007 at 11:57 PM EST

Why can't the actors work into the summer just like the rest of us? They had all this time off, anyway. I do NOT want a 'mini' cliffhanger! We are only getting 16 episodes per season for the next 3 seasons anyway! I want all of this amazing show to air! I feel the public is getting the shaft!
We all have been forced to wait for THE best show on television~NOW or ever & I do not think it is fair to screw us out of the remaining 8 episodes!
Why can't they work into the summer? The regular working world works 50 weeks per year, why can't they work extra to get it done!
I was totally for this writers strike, being from a union family myself. BUT! They want more money from DVD sales? Give me a break! What is next? Each actor to fork over a portion of THEIR profits just because they SPOKE the words the writers put in their mouths? Actors try to make those words 'work', or at least TRY to!
Enough, already! I know television shows are junk these days, but we need them back ASAP!

E123 Mon, Dec 17, 2007 at 10:30 PM EST

what happened with the strike could someone please explain that too me?

Jessica Brennick Mon, Dec 17, 2007 at 08:13 PM EST

Yep. Now at 9 o'clock at night like the good old days during season 2. I can't wait. 45 days!!!!! I love LOST!!!

Doug Mon, Dec 17, 2007 at 08:12 PM EST

For those of you who don't know the LOST season 4 teaser trailer is on you tube. Just type "Lost season 4" in the search engine. All I can say after watching it is "I CANT FREAKIN WAIT!"

Tuzo Mon, Dec 17, 2007 at 02:24 PM EST

R.O.B., it's not the disk size that is the issue (although it could be if you fill up your HD esp. with HD) but it's the number of tuners in the DVR that limit the number of simultaneous recordings.

Bruno Mon, Dec 17, 2007 at 02:19 PM EST

This show deserves the Post-"Grey's Anatomy" timeslot had Grey's still been on. I don't care about it being on too late. "L O S T" would have been the only show to retain a good portion of the Grey's lead in. And Thursday takes it away from the destruction of American Karaoke Idol.

Rob Mon, Dec 17, 2007 at 02:11 PM EST

stupid greedy writers....shouldn't they have to actually EARN what they get paid? When the fans of the best shows are complaining about how bad the episodes have been and how its a search for the least worst shows rather than the best shows, why would the writers think, "Hey, we should get more money...." Instead they should be thinking, good thing we still have jobs cause at least we don't suck as bad as those other shows."

put me in the "I'll take whatever I can get" group.
I can't wait til season 4, and I watch it whatever night it's on, however many episodes are run, and nomatter how late it is on!!!

Lost is my crack, and I need a fix

Lostfan Mon, Dec 17, 2007 at 10:08 AM EST

While I do miss my Lost, we've waited this long, and I'd really prefer to see them all back to back.

Petra Sun, Dec 16, 2007 at 07:37 PM EST

I just hope that the writers have learned their lessons from the last season's 6 episodes mini-arc which was terrible and that this time they have a real cliffhanger.

Lucy March Sun, Dec 16, 2007 at 12:26 PM EST

Thursday at 9:00 - super. I was having trouble staying up until 11:00 and getting up early for work the next morning. Since Gray's won't be with out for a while cause of the stike, this will give LOST a chance to recapture its audience. LOST is the best show of its kind on TV; all it needs is the audience it deserves.

Frank Sun, Dec 16, 2007 at 06:45 AM EST

It is a mixed blessing, to be sure. But we should be happy with what we can get. Though, I do hope people (fans, critics, non-fans) will have the courtesy to resist the temptation to start hating on the show if things seem to be moving 'too slowly.' As revealed last year, already, much of the discontent with the first 6 episodes seemed totally misplaced; and that was pretty well confirmed by how brilliantly they set up the rest of the season. So with the producers having warned of the cliffhanger at episode 8 and how most of the 'answers' weren't to be revealed until the 2nd 8 episodes, I hope everyone can keep that in mind. And, anyway, afterall that is how a good story is supposed to be. It is supposed to make you anticipate, and wait, and think rather than to give you all the 'answers' (and, hence, no possibility of any real 'questions') up front. It is what makes Lost great, and more like a great novel than anything else TV has ever produced.

Janie Sun, Dec 16, 2007 at 01:19 AM EST

YES! The wait is almost over!

Akira Sat, Dec 15, 2007 at 09:21 PM EST

Can't wait!!!!!!!!

vw Sat, Dec 15, 2007 at 06:33 PM EST

i don't care where they bloody put it, i'm watching!!!!!! YEAH!!!!

April Sat, Dec 15, 2007 at 05:36 PM EST

The night change will throw me off a bit but I CAN'T WAIT.

But what if the strikes end? Will they move it back to Wednesdays? I guess I'll catch The Office at 10 if the strike ends.

Joel Sat, Dec 15, 2007 at 03:10 PM EST

It's not on Wednesdays anymore? :(

Kitty Sat, Dec 15, 2007 at 01:34 PM EST

Yee haw! I thought with the strike we may not get any Lost this year! I'm psyched! :-) >^..^<

Laura Sat, Dec 15, 2007 at 12:42 PM EST

I like the Thursday move. I'd watch it over any other show anyway - especially because if there were new Office (which i know there won't be) they rerun those episodes anyway. Lost never gets rerun. I'm so glad it's coming back!

Michael Sat, Dec 15, 2007 at 12:12 PM EST

YES

R.O.B. Sat, Dec 15, 2007 at 12:05 PM EST

Why do the best shows all have to be on at the same time?? I understand that we won't be getting any new Office or CSI episodes any time soon, but eventually we will. Which means now CSI will probably need to be chucked from the DVR schedule. Here's an idea for any enterpising cable or satellite company: You can buy 500 gigabyte hard drives now that fit into the change pocket in your jeans. Start making DVRs that can record four shows at once already.

Dazzo Sat, Dec 15, 2007 at 01:41 AM EST

I'm TOTALLY torn on this. On the one hand, last season's plan of airing 6 episodes then having a break, with no real "cliffhanger" or anything, really frustrated viewers, but I think that was mostly because those six were so BAD. On the other hand, I really just want the show back so I'd rather have 8 episodes then wait for the rest. It's better then nothing. Once I watch my S3 DVD's I'm gonna be craving ANYTHINg so I'll take it. Only regret is they didn't plan this so they don't have a genuine cliffhanger after ep.8...oh well.

Lindsay Sat, Dec 15, 2007 at 01:09 AM EST

Lost is my favorite show, counting the days to see it, hope there are more episodes than 8. Waiting to buy season 3, which is now out.

Linda Sat, Dec 15, 2007 at 01:07 AM EST

Lost is the best show there is, can't wait to see it, i too will miss Charlie.

George Sat, Dec 15, 2007 at 12:54 AM EST

Of course Lost will return to the top of the ratings game. How many other returning non-reality shows will there be in 2008? Though it is interesting that they are scared of AI...oh well, let the suckfest that Lost has become return.

By the way, YAY for Lost coming back soon! Last season was fabulous, although I'm still sad about Charlie.

RBlues Sat, Dec 15, 2007 at 12:32 AM EST

By replacing Grey's with Lost and running 8 consecutive shows starting Jan 31, does this mean they anticipate the strike lasting that long? Thank-God for my reality shows!

Shari Fri, Dec 14, 2007 at 10:58 PM EST

I am so excited for this. I can't even believe people would want to wait until 2009 just to get 16 episodes in a row. Give me a break. A show like Lost can NOT survive a 2 year hiatus. Give me the 8 now, I'll take whatever I can get, and God willing, the strike will be over by April and they can start shooting the next 8 after that.

jono Fri, Dec 14, 2007 at 10:39 PM EST

I'm glad I'm not the only one who thought Season Three was awesome and can't wait for LOST's return.

jono Fri, Dec 14, 2007 at 10:39 PM EST

Rob Grizzly Fri, Dec 14, 2007 at 10:39 PM EST

Well, Greg, I agree with you. But I think the spring's 8 eps have more to do with continuous story flow; People complained about reruns too much during season 2, which is why they changed their format last year. The fact that Lost will be one of the few shows with new episodes with this strike going on is a lucky coincidence. I don't think ABC foresaw the strike coming, or they would have made sure all 16 eps were ready to go

Greg Fri, Dec 14, 2007 at 10:12 PM EST

It's odd how Lost is pretty much the only show slated for the spring with some episodes under it's belt. It actually shows a little restraint on ABC's part by waiting until then to premiere it, what with next to nothing available to air. It's also funny that the only reason they have 8 in the can is due to the agreement ABC made with Damon and Carlton, obviously way before the strike. Without that deal they'd have probably already aired 6 like last year with two left for later. It sort of makes the final, and probably ONLY, episodes of the season mean more. Add to that it's pretty much the only A-List show left for the spring, and hopefully with Grey's time slot, it should do pretty well for itself. #2 ranked show after American Idol, probably. Who'd have guessed Lost would return to such a high rating after last year?

Greg B Fri, Dec 14, 2007 at 08:45 PM EST

I'm excited as H, E, Double-hockey sticks! I just got Season 3 from Amazon and plan to watch it during the week I have off after Christmas. I agree with Henry, we LOST fans are the most "complainingest" fans TV fans out there!

t3hdow Fri, Dec 14, 2007 at 08:25 PM EST

It's going to suck once it gets cut off at the halfway mark (if the strike doesn't end soon), but I'll take whatever Lost I can get. Its shift from Wednesdays to Thursdays is a little questionable (what self respecting Lost fan would watch Idol over this?), but I'll live. Bring on Lost!

Trazey Fri, Dec 14, 2007 at 08:12 PM EST

THANK YOU SANTA!!! yayayayay!!!!

I'm sooooooooooooo happy, since the end of the season last year I've been jonesin' for more!!!! Kate getting out of that car was the BEST. MOMENT. EVER

krayzeman Fri, Dec 14, 2007 at 08:10 PM EST

Its better to know there are only gonna be 8 episodes and run them consecutively than to have to suffer through those reruns(or waits)from last season...

Chris Fri, Dec 14, 2007 at 07:44 PM EST

"Thursdays at 9? As in, at the same time as Grey's? No...!!!"

Dude, both shows are on the same network.

mscisluv Fri, Dec 14, 2007 at 07:39 PM EST

Thursdays at 9? As in, at the same time as Grey's? No...!!!

tj Fri, Dec 14, 2007 at 07:27 PM EST

WHY? OH WHY can't they leave these shows alone???!!!! This is how shows do bad and get cancelled, Lost is lucky it already has an end date! Lost has been on Wednesdays since it premiered!!! Why
can't they leave it! I work on Thursdays and now I have to record it and I always looked foward to watching it the night it was on!! AAArghhh!!!!

Ben Fri, Dec 14, 2007 at 07:10 PM EST

So awesome! Can't wait to get back to Lost!

henry Fri, Dec 14, 2007 at 07:10 PM EST

and let the complaining beging --ah lost fan -you are such a pain in the &(*&*(^&%^$

DKT Fri, Dec 14, 2007 at 07:04 PM EST

Nooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!! I want to see them all together, all back-to-back. If I have to wait anyway for the last 8 episodes, I'd rather just wait for all of them!

Rynn Fri, Dec 14, 2007 at 06:56 PM EST

I can't wait. This is great news.

Laura Fri, Dec 14, 2007 at 06:49 PM EST

I actually liked it on Wednesdays at 10, but I'll take it whenever I can get it.

Also, to Suzi - without those "greedy people" we wouldn't *have* our "viewing pleasures".

Suzi Fri, Dec 14, 2007 at 05:35 PM EST

So looking forward to this - hope the stupid writers stike ends soon - tired of all these greedy people keeping us from our viewing pleasures as well as keeping lots of others out of work in the entertainment industry. At least we have one more good show besides FNL to look forward to watching.

Mike Fri, Dec 14, 2007 at 05:27 PM EST

There are no more new Offices until the strike ends. Most of the actors are also members of the WGA, and they walked off on Nov. 4th. Plus, Steve Carell, who doesn't write for the show but is a member of the Union, walked off with them

angela Fri, Dec 14, 2007 at 05:20 PM EST

Hope it isn't on against 'The Office'(assuming they run new eps soon)

Jen Fri, Dec 14, 2007 at 05:19 PM EST

Best show ever. I can't wait.

T.L. Fri, Dec 14, 2007 at 05:12 PM EST

Ahhh! An oasis in the wasteland that is the 2007-8 TV season!
