Christian Bale to star in 'Terminator'

Categories: Movie Biz

Bale_lThe rumors have raged for the past few weeks but Hollywood Insider can now confirm that Christian Bale is set to star in the Terminator reboot…Terminator Salvation: The Future Begins. Bale will take on the John Connor role with McG directing and Halcyon producing for Warner Bros. One source tells HI that the story line is a big departure from the originals starring Arnold Schwarzenegger. Details are being kept so close to the vest that only a very few people have read the last ten pages of the script. All we know is that Bale is one valuable commodity to those folks at Warners. (A studio spokesperson had no comment, other than to say that Salvation isn’t set yet, meaning it has not been officially greenlit.)

when the he!! is he going to do another batman movie? i first was entertaining and i have been waiting…

  • greg

He’s already filmed the new Batman movie. It’s called THE DARK KNIGHT and it’s coming out this summer.

Why Christian, why? You’re one of the most gifted actors of your generation, able to cherry-pick your projects and work with only the best directors. So why the hell would you work with popcorn-flick hack McG?

  • Phil

Hmmm… love how they release this info. before the movie is greenlit so that Fox gets some MORE viewers to tune into the Sarrah Connor Chronicles in January…But all shadiness aside, I love Christian Bale in just about everything he does, and if you’re gonna nit pick about him cherry picking roles, maybe more people should have went to see RESCUE DAWN this past summer. Sure it wasn’t the typical summer blockbuster, but it was a GREAT movie!

I think that he chooses to do big projects like this so he can afford to do smaller, more independent projects like “Rescue Dawn” and “I’m Not There.” He’s a smart guy.

As a Balehead from the 90s, nursing him through “Newsies” to “Swing Kids” to “Portrait of a Lady” and then a whole period of little bitty movies no one wanted to see, let him do blockbusters if he wants to. Hey, maybe the movie will tank. I already consider “Terminator 3″ apocryphal anyway.

What was wrong with the original, again? With so much story to tell, did it really need a reboot? How lame.

Werner Herzog, Christopher Nolan, Todd Haynes, McG . . . wait, one of these doesn’t belong.

  • balefan

I hope it’s some cameo, or a short appearance. if he’s John Connor, i will puke. he’s already proved himself bankable with Batman, and I don’t need any more ignorant people calling him “that guy from Batman and Terminator”

Bale will make Schwarnzegger look like a “little he girl”. He’s a 1000 times tougher than mono speaking brainless grunt from austria. Vive la France!!!

Noooo!!! Not to Christian Bale starring, I’m sad McG is directing! This is the same guy that directed the Charlies Angels “movies” right? I love the Terminator Series, I’ve even started to really appreciate the third over the years. I have to cross my fingers in hopes that McG will not ruin the 4th.

Every film I’ve seen with him in it has been cool (interracialfriends.com)– even ‘Reign of Fire’ was tolerable. Funny thing– I’ve never seen ‘Empire of the Sun’, his first role.
Bale as John Connor?? Brilliant casting!

What a shock, a bunch of ignorant snobs hating on the “popcorn-hack” McG. Is he the best director in the world? Nah. But give Bale some credit, would he chose to be in this if he thought it was goin to be terrible? Obviously not. So have a little faith.

  • Warren

Who says he’s playing a Terminator? Likely the Biehn-type of role.
Anyways, this guy can pick scripts, so I’m looking forward to it.

  • B

Gee, dbldn11 maybe if you are going to call us all ignorant snobs, you should hang out on a different website…or maybe just stick to Maxim…they usually LOVE everything McG does.

Terminator will be tough without Arnold, but Christian Bale is a good edition. Top 10 Christian Bale movies anyone? – http://blog.filmjabber.com/2007/12/02/top-ten-christian-bale-movies/

  • Tony

I think Vin Deisal will make a good Terminator….oh wait.. my mistake….

  • Carl Cordova

Christian Bale in the Terminator is pretty awesome, he knows how to pick his scripts like Johnny Depp, more power to him! I am with Bale since Equilibrium, he kicks major ass. No compromises or commercial rubbish.

  • Dave

He needs to do a mettle gear soild movie, He looks like solid snake

  • Matt

Liz, you are partially right. I saw him in an interview where he said that he does these blockbuster movies to get the movies made that wouldn’t normally get the chance. He figures that becoming more mainstream popular will help the independent movies get viewers who normally wouldn’t see them. Unfortunately, the majority of people won’t hunt down a movie if its not playing at a multiplex. I believe George Clooney has a similar philosophy when choosing scripts.

Has anyone noticed that Bale’s career has been involved in playing the protag in movies rebooted after Arnold ruined them as either watered down versions of former villaisn or as lame-ass jerks. Following an Arnold kick these last few years? Batman movies (Arnold was Mr. Freeze), then as John Conner (Arnold being the titular robot), as well as other movies with similar themes, (Reign of Fire/End of Days) and both as men on the run against a terrifying, oft-hidden enemy (Rescue Dawn/Predator). Bale is a great actor, but this is getting eerie

  • Ruby

I have actually enjoyed all 3 Terminator movies, which is hard to say for most series. And I like them each because they are all different. The 3rd one could have been disasterous, but was actually funny and an interesting extension to the storyline. And with Bale as John Connor, I mean that is genius. That’s a John Connor you can get behind! Besides Arnold was getting too old anyway.

  • Stef

Yess! I’m excited to hear about Bale doing another series I love!
Just a question, but was the story edited after it was posted? There are people here wondering what role Bale will have and it looks pretty obvious to me that he’s John OConnor based on the above story saying: “Bale will take on the John Connor role”

Am I the only person on the planet that notices Christian Bales lisp. Hello!!!! I don’t know why it bugs me, but it does. Sorry.

  • patrick

God is not higher than you,
God is not lower than you,
    He is your heavenly father!
So when, when people look down
upon you and frown then just turn
    around and say to them,
I am not higher than you,
I am not lower than you,
    I am your equal,
No matter how you look at it,
    I AM your equal!
    I don’t like being alone,
I don’t like being the fifth wheel,
I don’t like feeling lonely in a crowd,
So I put my heels together and stand
up proud and strong and say to God
I love you for who you are!
