New 'Big Brother' could air this winter

Categories: Strike, TV Biz

Julie_l Big Brother fans, prepare to celebrate the Writers Guild strike. A reliable source says CBS is quietly ramping up production on a ninth cycle of the reality show to begin airing in late January or early February if the strike persists well into the holidays. It's easy for CBS to fire up production on BB because it owns the house (which is located on the network's Studio City, CA lot) and it casts for the show year-round. We hear executive producer Allison Grodner is already hiring production staff and, of course, Julie "Chenbot" Chen would return as host. A CBS spokesperson declined comment.

Like seasons past, the network would probably air the show thrice-weekly, although there's always the possibility of adding more nights since action occurs around-the-clock in the BB house. Last summer, fans demonstrated their desire to watch even more of the house happenings by tuning into to Big Brother: After Dark on Showtime. It's unclear whether the nightly feeds will resume with this new cycle, though it seems likely. If the midseason BB does go forward, it is unlikely to affect the regular summer run of the show.

I really cant wait to see this years Big Brother. I think its going to be really neat seeing it aired in the winter. Looks like they wont have a pool or jacuzzi! Im just curious to find out what the theme is this year and what kind of people are going into the house. I hope CBS gives us something soon to keep us on the edge of our seats. I cant believe it, just 2 1/2 weeks left until the show starts. I wait all year long to watch! Im soo glad its starting early this year. Oh yeah, AND i hope that maybe they still have a summer edition this year too on top of the newest winter edition. I mean, it would be alot to fit in but it would get alot of viewers. For sure. My friends used to call me wierd cause i had to be home to watch BB every day it was on, and now i have them hooked. Congrats to the newest season! Im looking forward to seeing what CBS has in store! :)

I think a show of more than one older person would be great...or several olders would be even better...the older people add a different ruffle to the show...more character...love them...love them!!

goldie Sun, Nov 25, 2007 at 01:01 PM EST

I think it's a wonderful idea. However I don't have showtime and was highly disappointed with real players recurring charge. I would like to receive the internet showing 24hrs without the constant cutouts and watch it truly uncut. I do believe this is how the other countries air their showings. It would be an added bonus if you got rid of real player and allowed windows media player. this would avoid the additional charges. I signed and paid for the Big Brother 8 season and then canceled the subscription to real pass and could not view the last 3 weeks of the show because real player canceled my account. That sucks and if I have to go thruogh real player to view the show, I wish you a good season without me.

Hi guys! I'm from Bulgaria. Here Big Brother is the most popular TV program. We also have a celebrity version called VIP Brother.
It'll be very interesting if they air Celebrity Big Brother in USA :)

THIS WOULD BE SOOOOO AWESOME. I HAVE BEEN HAVING WITHDRAWS SINCE SEXY E.D. WON BB8. I WAS VOTING FOR HIM THE WHOLE TIME, I'M GLAD DANI DIDN'T WIN SHE WOULDN'T HAVE SHARED THE MONEY WITH DICK OR VINCENT. WE ALL HAVE OUR OPINIONS, IF DICK GOT VOTED OFF I WAS NOT GOING TO WATCH AGAIN UNTIL NEXT SEASON. I NEVER THOUGHT DICK WOULD HAVE MADE IT A MONTH LET ALONE WIN. I COULD BE A FEMALE VERSION OF HIM, WE ACT ALIKE. WE ARE WHO WE ARE AND IF YOU DON'T LIKE IT..... OH WELL. I WOULD LOVE TO SEE A SHOW ABOUT WHERE THEY ALL ARE AT NOW. DID ERIC AND JESS HOOK UP, BETTER YET DID DANI AND NICK? I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW ABOUT THEM ALL. TO BE ON THE SHOW WOULD BE MY DREAM COME TRUE. ALTHOUGH I AM NOT A TINY, LITTLE ANOREXIC 20 YEAR OLD. SO PLEASE BRING ON ANOTHER BB, I AM READY. GOOD LOOKING GUYS LIKE ON BB8. NICK I DROOLED OVER, IF DANI DIDN'T SOME OF THAT WHILE SHE WAS THERE "DUMB" DICK IS A VERY SEXY MAN, I WOULD LOVE TO HOOK UP WITH HIM. DUSTIN IS VERY SEXY, ERIC IS CUTE. DICK MADE THE SHOW WORK!!

Pat Mon, Nov 19, 2007 at 11:59 PM EST

Sounds like a couple other D/D haters are still bitter. Too bad that they got a good end, stop whining and hope that this new season gives you the happy ending you want(but don't be surprised if I decide that it isn't fair that you get a happy ending).

PS Season 8 was good... not amazingly great but not as horrible as the D/D haters(ie Jessica/Eric fans) want to believe it was.

nat Mon, Nov 19, 2007 at 11:58 PM EST

I really hope they do the winter season. I just really hope it is not a celebrity edition. I heard they may do that and it would be horrible.

Jake Mon, Nov 19, 2007 at 08:33 PM EST

Even though this show would have been NOTHING without Dick, I love the idea of Big Brother in the winter.

Harry Thu, Nov 15, 2007 at 02:20 AM EST

It is distressing that viewers might be presented with the debacle that has become Big Brother. Season 8 was appalling. Allison Grodner, you stooped to the lowest common denominator that exists in society. I saw you on BB Housecalls and you were proud of what was being presented. Shame on you!

Ahrean Wed, Nov 14, 2007 at 08:32 AM EST

BRING BACK MORE PEOPLE LIKE DICK!!! He was the first REAL person in that house that acted the way we'd all act if not hiding behind some fake ass morality. Everyone protesting here knows that while they say they hated it, deep down if they didn't have the social restraints imbedded in them they'd do it too.

To anyone that gets on, be just like Dick and you have my vote!

Ash Mon, Nov 12, 2007 at 07:24 PM EST

WAHOOOOOO!!! ill be beyond words excited! im not really sure why they dont have two a year like most reality shows

To Tony: Mon, Nov 12, 2007 at 01:38 AM EST

Get your nose out of Allison's a*s! D*ick was her bi*ch last season-not you. Move on

Mon, Nov 12, 2007 at 01:36 AM EST

Keep the Showtime feeds!

Fri, Nov 9, 2007 at 12:35 PM EST

I thought that Big Brother: After Dark on Showtime was the most boring thing I've ever viewed. I sometimes cannot sleep so I tuned in to put me to sleep. You really ought to re consider airing this again. I cancelled my showtime.

Kiara Thu, Nov 8, 2007 at 05:01 PM EST

really i don't have a comment but i just want to write to you and the other big brother fans. enjoy holla

Tony Moore Thu, Nov 8, 2007 at 02:11 PM EST

For Allison, You did a great job- The arrowheads that are 2nd guessing you don't have a clue what it takes. I know as i have been put through it this pass summer. I could smell the front door and can't wait to try again. love the show. Tony

Debbie 96 Thu, Nov 8, 2007 at 08:31 AM EST

In adding to the comments I have been reading, I also have been an avid fan since the first show. However, I shut it off last year with the disgusting, cheap, bully...known as Dick. I was shocked with the way the producer allowed him to threaten the other housemates. It wasn't my kind of TV....my co-workers and friends agreed and also shut it off....which left me wondering what kind of people were still turning this on. I would turn it on next year...a second chance...hopefully, that wouldn't happen again...or its goodbye to Julie and Big Brother for good.

Regardless of someone's religion-stop mocking it. Interesting that during Kaysar's season (6), there was no mocking of his MUSLIM prayer rug & morning prayer ritual. Season 8 had monks chanting, "church" organ music, etc. No sitar music for Kaysar though.

To Shannon Mitchell Thu, Nov 8, 2007 at 01:02 AM EST

Go to cbs.com, click on Big Brother, and fill out the online application.(You'll need to download it, its in "Word" format). Hurry, they're casting this edition now. Maybe you could try for next summer's show?

KoleKitty Wed, Nov 7, 2007 at 11:43 PM EST

Wow, this is indeed some interesting news, but I'm still in therapy from the BB8 debacle! (j/k)
Seriously though, can't we get a different producer this time? And how the heck would they do a winter show in that house? I know it's L.A. but c'mon, it's not warm enough to go outside and swim, etc. This should prove to be intersting.

shannon mitchell Wed, Nov 7, 2007 at 10:04 PM EST

i so want to be on big brother how can i sign up or where can i go. someone please help. thank you so much.

shrrybaby1270 Wed, Nov 7, 2007 at 09:47 PM EST

I can only hope that BB will be on as early as January. I just hope the rules are meant for ALL players of the game and just not a select few. Having input from us, the fans, was awesome, but put the player in a tought situation (more than once). I did not get to watch the after dark feeds, but sure they were worth it..

S Wed, Nov 7, 2007 at 09:45 PM EST

Gee Whiz Wally not sure if I will watch or not after what happened this year, I aggree with the white trash way it ended sure turned me off of it and left me so very disappointed in BB!! I have been an avid fan since day one! Please take to heart what the fans wrote about this year Miss Producer. Also if your going to do the feeds on Showtime, how about showing the whole thing and not going to commercial when something happened? Thats why I paid extra for Showtime was to just watch BB!!

We will see if we watch or not..

sam Wed, Nov 7, 2007 at 07:49 PM EST

I was hoping for a new producer. I won't watch again with this one.

Paul Wed, Nov 7, 2007 at 08:37 AM EST

The blatant manipulation of Season 8, allowing Dick to slide on his INTENT to cheat, his bullying, and that craptastic "Fairy Tale" white trash ending makes me think this might be a bad idea to repeat, two times a year. Also, the "rules" (which seem to be made up based on a Houseguest's popularity), should be posted (in their entirety) on the BB website and on a frigging billboard in every room of the house. I WAS a big BB fan and season 8 was rotten. Look at what happened to Hamsterwatch??? If you're gonna do it twice, do it right.

To: Allison Grodner Wed, Nov 7, 2007 at 04:08 AM EST

Alison Grodner, learn from your first time as exec. producer. The manipulation of the cast, disregard for the "fuzzy" rules, rewarding a cheater with your "help" was so transparent, Helen Keller could've seen it. FYI-Diversity, practice it. Homosexuals-NO MORE NEGATIVE STEREOTYPICAL SWISHY contestants. Not all of us are limp wristed, high pitched, dramatic, "Nancy Boys"

Big Sister Wed, Nov 7, 2007 at 04:00 AM EST

Yes! Writers strike or not, airing this show 2x'a year is a fantastic idea. I do hope they continue with the after dar"Showtime" feeds. To AG-Please take the many critcisims of the last season to heart. Rules-make a clear set available on the website & stick to it! NO MORE FAIRY TALE ENDINGS for winner who entered the game with the INTENT to cheat, and was encouraged to be sexist, a bully & allowed to get away with everything-just to appease white trash America. Give your intelligent viewers some credit, and let the game play out without your "influence".

RayT Tue, Nov 6, 2007 at 04:51 PM EST

Yes! I hope there's a special Christmas episode where the houseguests have to don red and green bikinis and fish tree ornaments out of a vat of egg nog!

Crumbs Tue, Nov 6, 2007 at 04:15 PM EST

I can only hope this to be true.
