I think Johnny Depp should be nominated for and win an Oscar for many reasons,not the least of which,besides being very talented..he is drop dead gorgeous!

There’s another point that must be considered.Helen Mirren won last year.
If it’s exceptionnal to see foreigners winning in all categories, I think (I may be wrong)that it is also very rare that the award in a category(specially the leading one) goes to a foreigner 2 years in a row.
So my guess is,at least for best actress,it will be an american actress.

Karger’s right that foreigners could sweep the acting prizes, although (in addition to Holbrook in supporting actor) Johnny Depp could be the American exception. Why? Because the (limited) advance word on “Sweeney Todd” is strong, because “Sweeney” will be a worldwide box-office hit (unlike “There Will Be Blood,” which needs to do at least solid “Capote”-level numbers to help Day Lewis), and because, unlike Day-Lewis, Depp has never won. Plus, in recent years Catherine Zeta-Jones and Jennifer Hudson have shown that, once again, people CAN win Oscars for musicals.

So Brits are coming over here and dominating the Oscars…not exactly breaking news…also, you forgot Keira Knightley in “Atonement.”
But if an American were to take an acting prize, I’d probably go with Tommy Lee Jones in “In the Valley of Elah” (if people even remember that movie by the end of the year) and I’ve also heard good things about Josh Brolin in “No Country for Old Men”, which I can’t wait to see.
