Is Lucas' 'Star Wars' TV series preparing for takeoff?

Yoda_l Multiple sources have confirmed to EW.com that George Lucas is coming to Los Angeles next week to meet with writers for his long-gestating live-action Star War series. According to one agent familiar with the project, Lucas' plan is to recruit several freelancers - aka "writers of real significance" - to spend a week at the Skywalker Ranch in November to come up with story ideas for the series. The agent also said that Lucas has indicated a desire to hire writers from other countries. The scribes would then disperse and write the 13 episodes that would be produced and financed by Lucas.

When Lucas first began recruiting Hollywood writers for the project as early as February 2006, according to the agent, his original intent was to produce 26 episodes before he went on the lookout for a network partner. The news put fans in the frenzy as speculation swirled that the live-action series would take place between Star Wars III: Revenge of the Sith and Star Wars IV: A New Hope, though the agent believes those rumors are unfounded. Plot points for the series, as a result, remain sketchy.

Where do I sign up?
:)

rob mathews Fri, Oct 12, 2007 at 12:44 PM EST

this is the first i've heard of it. what's the premise? pre-star wars, post Jedi?

Scribe6 Fri, Oct 12, 2007 at 01:06 PM EST

AFAIK, from IGN as well as a few other sites, Lucas is looking at a Post Ep 3/Pre Ep 4 window of time. Its really more the solidifying of the empire and the rise of the rebellion.

Lando Fri, Oct 12, 2007 at 01:42 PM EST

It would be nice if he used some of the fine writers that do the Legacy of the Force series. Amazing stuff.

Court Fri, Oct 12, 2007 at 01:42 PM EST

This could be really great or really bad. How would it work? Would it be all new actors playing the familiar roles, or new characters?

Dan Komoda Fri, Oct 12, 2007 at 01:52 PM EST

None of the major characters from the movies like Luke or Anakin will be featured in this series. The series will explore other story lines using new or familiar background characters from the movies.

dark_tyler Fri, Oct 12, 2007 at 02:37 PM EST

Other countries, you say?

Hello, Steven Moffat.

Dave Fri, Oct 12, 2007 at 02:42 PM EST

From what I have read over the past couple of years, it is supposed to cover the "Dark Times" referred to by Obi-Wan in Episode IV, which would be the 20 years between Episode III and Episode IV.

Court Fri, Oct 12, 2007 at 03:02 PM EST

Thanks for the info, Dan and Dave...I could see this being really good, if they get some great writers.

mjade27 Fri, Oct 12, 2007 at 03:06 PM EST

Wish he'd just drop this. He's ruined SW enough with his special editions, prequel trilogy and the direction he's let the post Thrawn trilogy novels take. Let it go, Lucas. Move on to something different.

Yoda Fri, Oct 12, 2007 at 04:24 PM EST

Lucas's story telling is so messed up. Next he'll have me in the swamp with Shrek.

Diamond Eye Fri, Oct 12, 2007 at 05:26 PM EST

I heard it would involve single story episodes about the unsung heroes of the clone wars.

Charles Fri, Oct 12, 2007 at 06:30 PM EST

Just don't hire those folks that made that Ewoks TV movie long long ago. Ugggh! I still have the bad taste of under cooked Ewok in my mind

Mikey M Fri, Oct 12, 2007 at 08:09 PM EST

The good news is...Lucas is no writing it.

Gunner23 Fri, Oct 12, 2007 at 08:43 PM EST

Why not cover story lines that involve a young Han Solo as a smuggler for Jabba the Hut and his interaction with Lando and how he met Chewbacca etc.
That story is pretty much untold in the orignal trilogy.
Could even make for another trilogy of movies, lol.

I have read this news and people's discussion on searchingmillionaire.com. It's a dating site for celebrities and wealthy people.

Flynn Sat, Oct 13, 2007 at 11:13 AM EST

Late scoop boys. This thing has been in development hell forever. Don't get your hopes up - the new game is in that period, I doubt the new series will be. Inside news, my lightsaber.

JeffW Sat, Oct 13, 2007 at 07:00 PM EST

I think instead of coming up with "The Young Han Solo Chronicles", between Eps III and IV, how about something that takes place years after Ep VI? To be able to see what happened beyond the battle of Endor thru the eyes of a Jedi Padwan training on Yavin IV with a Jedi Master who was trained by Luke Skywalker himself. Thoughts anyone?

Amber Woods Sat, Oct 13, 2007 at 09:59 PM EST

I wish Lucas had just started at the beginning storyline for the movies, to let us new fans who weren't aware (of the comic book series) years ago get a heads up on what was going on. It's very confusing to keep track of the story lines just with a few movies, much less the "dark years between episode IV and V" or "Obi Wan's journey years"...etc. I hope this new TV series makes some kind of sense....

I think any of the writers that wrote Star Wars books before NJO would be good. NJO almost ruined the Star Wars Universe for me.

alanna Sun, Oct 14, 2007 at 10:23 AM EST

This report is a little behind the times and $10 short. TV GUIDE had an interview with Lucas in its magazine, with more on its website, a couple of weeks ago, in which Lucas confirmed the series takes place between III and IV and talked about the characters, and that writing was commencing.

Steven Moffat would be great!

Part of me is intruiged, being a lifelong Star Wars fan, but.....1. Lucas cant write this, thats a must 2. Do we really NEED a storyline between III and IV? I mean, heres how it ends: Vader wins. That was the one of the biggest flaws of the Prequel Trilogy (besides Christianson's horrendous acting), you knew how it ended. Those big shocker moments, "I am your father", Obi Wan's death, those couldnt happen because you knew the ending. 3. Personally, it had its flaws, but i LIKED the NJO trilogy because it tried something different. Has anyone ever read the post-Thrawn pre-NJO novels? Absolutely dreadful, with the children being kidnapped and held hostage every other book. The NJO, for all its flaws, at least tried to break that cycle of terribleness, and made it seem like something was actually at stake. 4. Anyone who says that new 9-book series currently going on in Star Wars is actually good has the standards of a retarded chimp. It sucks in so many ways, I cant even begin.

Rick Acuin Sun, Oct 14, 2007 at 01:17 PM EST

I think G.L. should just start making the 3rd trilogy(E7,8,&9)

intherain Sun, Oct 14, 2007 at 03:20 PM EST

they should do something with Aurra Sing or the Solo children. That would be interesting, with Jaden, the female twin (wats her name?) and lil Anakin...plus each of them have semifutures and things to keep the plot moving. Thank goodness Mr. Lucas won't be writing it himself though!!

john Sun, Oct 14, 2007 at 03:33 PM EST

Where can i get a part for a weapons expert?

john Sun, Oct 14, 2007 at 03:34 PM EST

by the way, her (the other solo twin) is named jaina

Chris Mon, Oct 15, 2007 at 10:59 AM EST

From what I have read about the TV series will be that Vader will be mentioned but never seen. There will be 13 episodes around a character and 100 total episodes. Characters mentioned will be Mon Motha, Aura Sing, and Other Jedi that are hiding out from the empire.

CL Mon, Oct 15, 2007 at 12:01 PM EST

I would really like to see a live-action movie (major motion picture) centering only on Boba Fett. Anyone who played the Star Wars Bounty Hunter game, which centered around his father would see there is plenty of story to tell. The movie could be about his different hunts, with the familiar Tattooine (Mos Eisley Cantina) or Death Star background sets.

robbyrob Mon, Oct 15, 2007 at 05:15 PM EST

this will be sick!! I am for sure that the ratings will go up the roof!

I wonder if some french screenwriters will be involved ^^

MetalWater Tue, Oct 16, 2007 at 01:00 AM EST

What about all of the writers, like myself, who are not well connected??? Lucas is supposed to be an independant, somebody who is operating outside of the normal Hollywood System, but when it comes to recruiting writers for his new series, he recruits from within the system, thus locking the rest of us out of consideration??? Foreign born freelance writers, or not--those writers that he is going to Hollywood to hire are in fact, in, and of...The System. Give the rest of us a chance!!!

It would be nice for the rest of us to get a chance at a big break!!!

craig Tue, Oct 16, 2007 at 09:54 AM EST

i don't want to imagine the fights: "oprah is on" .. "i don't care.. stars war is starting"... and so one.
tv sales will increase, or divorces and breakups will...

MetalWater honestly if you feel you have talent in writing stop bitching and go and find a break. Dont wait for it to drop in your lap. This series could rock out and it could also suck! But have faith that Lucas wont pick people that will F it all up!

John Wed, Oct 24, 2007 at 11:37 PM EST

why can't the make a movie after episode 6?

Mara Cruz Thu, Dec 6, 2007 at 06:45 AM EST

Why? it would be sad for the followers of this series. by the way you can also check my blog, free tv shows online which also deals in different tv shows.

Jimmy Jim JIm Tue, Feb 19, 2008 at 10:37 PM EST

The series is set between Ep 3 and Ep 4. The characters used are going to be minor character from the movies and new characters.

Katlyn W. Sun, Apr 6, 2008 at 11:33 PM EST

I hope George Lucas reads this! I think George Lucas should start making a 3rd trilogy as some people commented on. I also think that if there will be a 3rd trilogy, George Lucas should make sure it is REALLY good other wise it could ruin the whole trilogy or even the SERIES! I dont really know what they should write the 3rd trilogy about myself because they kind of ended it in the 2nd trilogy so it will probably be very hard to come up with ideas! This is an idea for George Lucas,: You could write the 3rd trilogy on Princess Leia and Luke Skywalker and they could seperately or together train one or two new "Chosen ones". On thing is for sure, do NOT make another "chosen one" turn to the dark side AGAIN! That would really ruin the series. No pressure or anything.I really like Star Wars and would like it to continue. I really ask of George Lucas that he uses his mind and heart, and makes the 3rd trilogy (if there is or wil be one) really good and to keep it down to earth.

Katlyn W. Sun, Apr 6, 2008 at 11:48 PM EST

(this is a continue comment for my other comment) I hope George Lucas also reads this. As i was saying: I hope George Lucas also keeps the 3rd trilogy (if there is or will be one) like the other one. I think George Lucas would and hopeflully gets what i am trying to say here. All i ask is that if there is/will be a 3rd trilogy, please make it good George Lucas and if it cant be really good, leave it at 2 trilogies. ~Katlyn W. PS. i REALY REALY hope George Lucas will read this and even possibly E-MAIL me back! i would love that and so would me 6 year old neighbor who LOVES StarWars and would be grateful! I would especialy love it if at some piont in (if there will be one) the 3rd trilogy, (if he got some idea from me), he could or would mention my name! But mainly i would like him to read this so much! It would REALLY mean a lot to me!
