Clooney Out of 'White Jazz'

George Clooney has dropped out of the starring role in Joe Carnahan's crime drama, White Jazz. The indie project, based on the James Ellroy novel, was initially supposed to begin filming in early 2008. Clooney, who is currently promoting Michael Clayton, shooting the Coen Bros.' Burn After Reading, and trying to finish his football movie, Leatherheads, is now too swamped to take on the role. "It just simply came down to scheduling," says Clooney's producing partner, Grant Heslov. "George continues to believe in the project and in Joe." It's not clear if Clooney, who was also set up as a producer on Jazz through his Smoke House productions, will remain involved. And what all this will mean for the film's fate remains to be seen. It was set up at Warner Independent, but according to a spokesperson there, the film had dropped off its slate.

I'm curious to see this project take form. It'd be nice to see Guy Pearce play Ed Exley again, but this movie almost has to stand alone from L.A. Confidential since Dudley Smith was killed off in that movie. I wonder if they plan to come up with a different character to be the Dudley Smith replacement since he plays a huge part of White Jazz.

Didn't Chris Pine drop out of this same p[roject last week to do STAR TREK? I really feel bad for the director to see his cast fall apart so fast... it happens too much in Hollywood. Quick, someone call Mike Vogel for the Pine roll and Patrick Dempsey for the Clooney role!

What a pity. Celebrities on searchingmillionaire.com think he is the best person for that role. It's a dating site for celebrities and wealthy people, but people are talking about this on the forum there.
