Audiences continue to love a good old-fashioned Western — just ask Lionsgate. The studio’s 3:10 to Yuma opened solidly with $14 million in 2,652 theaters four weekends ago. But what’s more interesting is how the R-rated movie starring Christian Bale and Russell Crowe continues to perform: Its box office tally now totals close to $40 million and some Lionsgate insiders believe it will out-gross Focus’s Eastern Promises on a per-screen basis this frame. As such, Lionsgate keeps adding theaters to its release. In fact, this weekend Yuma will be in 3,006 venues, 354 more than when it opened. On Movie City News’ Gurus ‘o Gold Oscar poll, the movie is in 16th place in the Best Picture race, but perhaps that ranking will improve if Yuma continues to gallop along at the box office.
"Yuma" still not ready to ride into the sunset
